The 2025 British Columbia Academy of Balloon Arts and Sciences Awards, the 2025 Flody Awards have been posted to our blog. The Flody Awards are very, very important. If you want to see what we look like and some of the crew here, the Flody Awards video will not disappoint you. So go to thedipole.com, thedipole.com. The video has just been posted this morning. It is of high production value. It is, you've got to see it, you've got to see it. No other thing we've ever done on social media, you've got to go and check out the 2025 Flody Awards. The entire cast of characters is there. It's just, I don't want to give it away. You've got to watch it. You've got to watch it, okay? Repeater station Kilo Kilo 7, November Quebec November, All Star Node 622. Okay, thanks Ernest. With that, we will be, we're going to get into high gear to launch another one here in a few days probably. And we're going to get that high altitude balloon up. I'm, I've been going longer than we wanted to, but we're hoping for August now. So that's it for Mission Control. Happy summer to everybody. Back to Ernest, okay 7-3-1. Thank you very much Scott for that exciting news there. That's along the lines of my topic tonight, this evening. Not about the balloons, but about getting stuff working, having stuff work. Alright, we just heard from Victor Alpha 7 Sierra Lima. Adrian, are you out there with any announcements? Victor Alpha 7 November is over there. Go ahead. V7NZ, good morning Ernest. Everybody on net. Nothing really new to add. I'm thinking of creating a series of recipes to go with the floaty awards of, you know, certain types of food that could be enjoyed. Specialty popcorn, maybe even nachos, I'm not sure. But those are the kinds of things that you should be eating whilst watching the floaty awards. But we'll also take recommendations on that. That's all I have. Nothing else, just very happy about the balloon. It's currently at, interestingly the balloon went really slowly on the circumnavigation. Winds were slow, it stalled at times. We've had days of no reports. We think the solar panels will be pointing the wrong way. But every few days it's the least reported again. And in the last four days since it crossed the circumnavigation, it's just taken off. The jet stream's gone really fast and it's now off the west coast, northwest coast of Spain by about 150 kilometers. So that's pretty cool. If anybody, you can follow the links at thedipole.com or at v7nfr.com slash pico balloons. And if you don't do that and you just want me to send you a link or add you to my email list where I update people on these things once in a while, send me an email to v7nz at myrac.ca and I'll add you to the list. 7-3 and we'll see you next week, v7nz."},{"callsign_confidence":0.94,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-07-20T10:05:13+00:00","id":8381,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":8380,"text":" Okay everybody, this is directed net and all traffic should go through the net control station. We will now inquire Scott, Victor Alpha 7, Sierra Lima, or Adrian, Victor Echo 7, November Zulu, if they have any net bulletins. Victor, America 7, Sierra Lima at Mission Control with a bulletin. Okay, okay, net recognizes Scott, Victor, America 7, Sierra Lima, go ahead please. Well, thank you, thank you Ernest. I am back from my trip, my two week tour of France, particularly in the south of France. I highly recommend it. It was quite amazing. And, anyway, back to radio. Well, we are so excited and proud to announce that we have achieved circumnavigation, not circumcision, circumnavigation of E7NFR-11 across the 122.5 degrees west longitude here about three days ago, I think, we think, approximately, might have done it at night. I haven't really been on much, but yes, thank you, thank you for both of them, and cheers for the check-in. All right, Ulrich, Ulrich de Cruz, it says here, welcome to the net, thanks for joining us, and welcome to the hobby. I guess foundation is the first level over there in the UK. And it says here you're from Lowestoft, which is where my dad's from. So I've actually been there. Thanks for joining us. And we have less than three minutes to go, so I'm gonna wrap it up. Okay, in that group I had VA7SL Scott with a recheck. I'll go to you right away. You'll be first. I also had VA3CDVCal, VE4JMP Mark, VE4AAP, uh, Trevor, VE4CA, Rob, VE7LWS, uh, Larry, VE4GWN, Gwen, VY1MGS Mike, VE4JCJ, John, and, uh, I think Victor Echo 7 Whiskey Fox was in there as well. So, uh, a large group here, loads of people in, in, uh, Mandotoba, but, uh, Scott, first VA7SL. Go ahead. VA7SL. Um, well, let's take this. We'll walk further out in the world. Why for this be a confirmed contact? Is this working? Is this working? Chris, okay. Yeah, you do have some sort of periodic noise with you. I'm not sure what that is, but, uh, we are able to copy. Yeah, I think it's other side of the show handheld is open. Sorry about that. I can't hear you. You can hear me there, secondly. Of course, it happens now. So, back in the 90s, I used to work SAP, and, uh, I'd say my furthest contact was Oscar 13 at Paraje, 40,000 kilometers away. I've heard that move out, so that would be further, but, um, that would be really my furthest out, but, gee, 40,000 kilometers. To this day, that is the coolest thing I've ever done this hobby, was hearing your signal bounce back off a satellite about a second later. That was fun. And, as far as receiving, I participated in a lot of hamster, but, um, I participated in the 90s. It was a Mars probe. Uh, it was on its way to Mars. It was about 500 million kilometers away from Earth, I believe, something in that range. And they had an experiment for amateurs to see if they could receive it. It was a beacon. And with dual boomers, 17 element, 2 meter, uh, no, sorry, UHF antennas and boomers, actually 33, double 33 element antennas and digital signal processing, they copied the beacon, and you had to send a recording. We didn't have, you know, UHF drives, but we had a recording, a super hard recording, I just had the tape recorded, I don't remember, but, um, we recorded it and sent it back for confirmation to usl. So, uh, that was pretty cool. Um, it was there. Scott, you definitely win for, uh, furthest received signal, absolutely. And, uh, that's a great satellite contact, too, going that far. I mean, I've heard myself come back from the ISS FM repeater when it's overhead, but that's, you know, that's only a few hundred kilometers. That's not 40,000. Uh, great stuff, Scott. Thanks for that. Boy, uh, that raises the bar here. Uh, Victor Echo 4, Juliet, oh no, sorry, who is first. I will be with you just in a second. Uh, I had a lot of first. Oh, yeah, by all means. I love full duplex. Go ahead. Thanks, Chris. I think we're going to have Victor Alpha 7, Cheryl Lima here at Mission Control. And, uh, I just wanted to give a little balloon update. So, Victor Echo 1, Echo Papa, the meal, is flying across eastern Canada this morning. He's about to, uh, he created the V1EP, made his first lap of the world here a couple days ago. Congratulations to Emil and his team at the Comox amateur radio club. And our balloon, the VA7NFR, is currently in the, we believe it's in the high Arctic. We mean high Arctic, we mean the high Arctic. It is way north. It is so far north it ain't getting enough sun on the panels. Um, we haven't heard from him for two or three days, which isn't unusual. But, um, we don't expect it. We'll hear from it again until it comes back down, probably over northern Canada. But, uh, it's slow moving air swirling around. In the polar regions, we believe, last time we heard from it, it was very, very northeastern Siberia. So, that's it here from Mission Control. Happy summer. Beautiful, beautiful day here in southwest British Columbia. Gonna be a warm one. Gonna have a barbecue. 73 to all. This is VA7SL here from Mission Control. Thanks, Scott. Boy, that's exciting stuff. Congratulations to you and to Emil for all the success with the balloons. Um, Scott, do you guys ever hook up with school groups? I mean, I have to, I'm trying to remember back to when I was about 12, and I have to think I would have been fascinated by that stuff back then. Well, last summer we, uh, we launched a, um, a balloon with a, uh, school group, uh, a summer school group in, uh, in southern British Columbia. It was very successful. They were very excited, actually. We were playing how kids are in person, you know. We didn't think they were that interested. And then we left, and we heard they were tracking it every day. They had it live on their screen in their classrooms, and, you know, so. No, we've done it, um, it's just, uh, it's funny though with people ballooning. It's just one of those things that's a tough one, because you got, it's very weather dependent, and you can't really predict anything, right? Like, um, during, especially during the school year when the weather's kind of iffy, right? That's the problem with it, but anyway, yeah, we've done it. VA7SL. Awesome. Well, that's great. Uh, thanks for the update, and, uh, of course, thanks for keeping everything running smoothly here at the Canada Hub. You and, uh, Adrian. And let's go to Emil, uh, VE1EP. Uh, anything to add to Scott's, uh, balloon report? No, not really. Uh, really excited that, uh, it's still, uh, still on the go. Um, for anyone that's interested, you could watch the launch actually on YouTube. The one at Copapa. And then for the specific details on the payload and, uh, and all these parameters, uh, you check my QRZ, and it's all in fine detail there. More, there's more there than I can fully understand, but, uh, that's okay. That's all part of the hobby. And, uh, today we're tracking 238, uh, excuse me, 243 balloons, uh, on my QRZ. So, uh, anyone that's interested, uh, you're more than happy to drop me a line, and, uh, we can even get you to adopt a balloon. And that's where you learn all about, uh, the parameters. Back to net control. Thanks for sharing. One Echo, Pop-Pop, Port of Me. Thanks, Emil. Very cool stuff. Uh, and, uh, boy, I'm surprised there are that many balloons. Neat stuff, and that ties in with today's topic, uh, what's the furthest you've reached in this hobby, uh, distance-wise. Okay, in that group of in-and-out check-ins, we had Whiskey, Juliet 3 Whiskey. Thanks for joining us, and I've been to that part of Pennsylvania. That's lovely. Uh, KJ5, J-O-M, thanks for joining us. K6, Victor, Pop-Up, thanks for joining us. VE4, November, Quebec, thanks for joining us today. Victor 4, Juliet, India, Mike, thanks for joining us. Who else did we have? It was just a quick in-and-out. Please go ahead. This is TransCanada. Uh, Victor, Echo 5, Romeo, Juliet, Mike, uh, Victor, Echo 5, Romeo, Juliet, Mike, uh, Roundy, and Kenora. Nothing particularly newsworthy. I guess, I don't know if Scott mentioned it last week, I've been away for a couple of weeks traveling around, but the V7NFR balloon we launched, it made two and a half laps around the Earth, which was pretty good. Our goal was to be the first circumnavigation. We did two and a half, and then the transmitter seemed to give up the ghost. We're not sure why, but hey, we consider that a big success. I'm back and going to be working on some stuff in the next week or so. We've got on the bench, we finally got pictures transmitting from a camera to a receiver. We're hoping to install that in the next high altitude balloon launch so that we can show people what, we can all see what the balloon is seeing up there at 100,000 feet. Hoping to get that going next few weeks. Bit of work to do, but we're close. Probably another Pico balloon in the next few weeks as well. So that's all good. Emil's been doing some great work. He's got a sponsor called V1EP that says, gosh, I'm not sure how many laps it's made. It's made at least two. It's doing really well. You can track that on the Internet as well. So, lots going on, and we'll make an announcement as soon as we've got a new flight coming up. As far as the network goes, everything's working well, as far as I can tell. We had a little bit of Internet bandwidth issues yesterday, but we've got those resolved. Always remind everybody if you have problems with a particular node, try the different one. Try another one because we have several that make up the Canada Hub. Primary ones being 517300 and 517301. But there are different locations.
