While you were saying that, I was like, oh yeah. So, yeah, but it really is just a great net, just for practicing, yeah, seeing who you can hear, seeing what locations, who you can hear what, and it's, yeah, just what you sound like, and it's awesome. It's an awesome net. I'm so grateful to all of the people that host that net. Yeah, that are there, RYY does it a lot, and yeah. I've been checking into Gannett recently, or any net recently, or even turn him on the radio. I've been out of town and also been very lazy recently. I've been really tired, and it is around 12 o'clock my time, so I've been going a bit harder, easier than I do. I usually don't do that, but I try to turn into a habit, and it's probably a good habit. But yeah, I did a lot. Friday I went to go visit my grandma and my uncle. My uncle is from a different province. He lives in Calgary, and yeah, it's around two provinces away from me. So he went up to Winnipeg to go see my grandma, and he decided to go take a trip down to Kenora, and me and my mom also took a trip down to Kenora, which Kenora is around 85 miles away from me. And I drove the entire way. I'm allowed to drive, and I got my student license, but I can drive anywhere in the province with restrictions, and that restriction is to have a passenger who has a full license and has three years driving experience. It was nice. I was also going to drive in a little town there, which was different but also fun. There are two roundabouts, which was my biggest fear, but they aren't too difficult and aren't too complicated than I thought. But yeah, I had a good time visiting a family, but I've been having issues with the NTP server that I have. I built an NTP server within the last two weeks. It connects to a satellite receiving and also uses atomic clocks. I think it listens to specific frequency. And yeah, it's a clock Canada has. I'm not sure if the United States have it, but it's three frequencies, and they say the time, and they also have this little beat to it. It also says the time, which is, I think it's used for when you can't really get the time or when something contrast if you happen to the world, you at least still have the time. It's always nice to have the time. Friday is my birthday. During 17, I don't know what's planned yet. I'm probably just going to stay at home, but the fair is in town. I've been volunteering at the fair on my birthday within the next three days because I need volunteer hours for my, to graduate high school. And I don't really have a lot. I need 40, and when I get 19 after that, so I need, you know, 21 more to get the checkmark and say that I'm okay to graduate. And that's coming up soon. This is my last year. School's starting September 4th, and I'm sort of looking forward to it, and sort of not. I've been enjoying my summer break. And yeah, anyways, I'm going to hand it back now. Thanks for taking my check in. 73 to all, VA3, that's the end."},{"callsign_confidence":0.99,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-08-25T22:36:04+00:00","id":24542,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":24541,"text":" Ah yes, you are young tree. Alright, this is Joan KX2CW now asking for Brian KE7KZH. Great net last night Brian and it was fun checking in in the circle with the radio gal circle there. Over to you Brian and radio wave to Jennifer and scritches to Tubby. Yeah that was very cool the group check in last night. I definitely appreciated that on my net. So happy that I could be there to run that and yeah good times there. Yes, KE7KZH Brian here. Not a heck of a lot to report other than Tubby. You know I call them tubs most of the time so little tubs. Anyway, so he actually just hopped up here and I don't know if you know the term or folks know it but bunnies do a thing called a dead bunny and a dead bunny is a verb and it sounds kind of scary or sad but it's actually the cutest thing ever. I've even seen the wild bunnies in the backyard do this where they just kind of go up and then they almost like do a little circle like break their hips just a little bit do like a little circle and then they will just like fall over to the side like almost with their arms out and they just look like they're dead and that's called the dead bunny. So Tubby actually just hopped up on the couch here and I was like oh hi and he just like did a little and then he just dead bunny like right on to me and when a bunny does that that's like the ultimate sign of bunny contentness. I won't say happiness per se but they are just content to all degrees. So I'm giving him some scritches here while he's being a little dead bunny. So anyway, oh it's Campbell. VA3FBN.CA. I went to your website out there. Sorry, let me say this. I went to Campbell. I shouldn't speak directly to people on the net. I went to Campbell's website and my advice to him would be set a redirect on port 80. I was using a browser that doesn't force HTTPS connections and so it's actually just coming up with a cloud flare error but then if I forced it to HTTPS then the site loads so that would be my quick advice. But I did. I was just on the phone with my uncle and we were just talking about computers and all that. I didn't really get to talk to him. And he got, last time I spoke to him it was pre-COVID and he got really sick with the virus there and he's finally getting better. And he was actually recently released from the hospital after being in there for around five years. I can congratulate him on that. But I was speaking to him and he worked in IT until he had to leave. But he told me a funny story where the company he was working for, they had a cloud, you can say a cloud server basically. And that cloud server was in a non-climate controlled room in an office building that they didn't even own. They were leasing a spot in that office building and that was non-climate controlled hosting three cities nearby. This was in Alberta and it was hosting Calgary, Edmonton, and Canada. And yeah, he said there was a lot of failures and you can probably assume to why there was a lot of failures going on. They had a 15 megabit per second length in an office building so many stories high, leasing a spot off so they could get started and they just never decided to switch over until when he left he got told that they switched to a data center that the company that he worked for acquired. And it's probably not failing as much as it did but it was such a funny thing to hear. I wonder how many businesses are doing that too. But I've been working on the home lab rack. I've been ordering some materials and equipment to put in there in order to meet patch. Patch panel cable organizer you can say and this is so I can manage my cables. But, thinking about the same project I might do with the radio, I want to make a broadcast of Vice Station, specifically be able to rackmount it. And, maybe use a Raspberry Pi as well. And, I'm not sure what to use on the radio. And, I don't really want something expensive, or something cheap that won't really work. I could use a BaoFang UV5R, but there's $70 in Canada, which is over my budget over radio there. I could be looking on eBay for something cheap, maybe a used BaoFang. Maybe a scanner, a base scanner that could probably last $50 or more. But, yeah, that's the project I've been thinking about. Be able to rackmount it, use a Raspberry Pi, and definitely have a UBS battery backup on it. And, looking into it as well. I didn't really do much today, it's the weekend. I got tomorrow off. I had today off from work, I worked Friday. And, Monday back to school. Everything is all fixed up at school, finally. Every year that happens. But, yeah, I went for a little drive today, worked at my parallel parking, as I'm getting my license the 11th of September. And, I'm getting excited, but a little nervous as well. It's coming soon. And, be able to drive alone the remainder of 11 months until I have to take another test for my license to never expire. And, if I don't do that, I have to redo everything. Redo the road test, the rules of the road, and everything else. It's a little weird how they do it here. But, the broadcast device stations fall into use with a high repeater. And, then you're not going to have a lot of broadcast from any municipal or government agencies or anything that isn't yours. But, you can transmit broadcast and with your radio into the internet. Even if you're not ham licensed. It's a little weird, but you can't broadcast anything else. You can if they're committed to you by the government or you have permission from that, written permission and a permit, I believe. You can broadcast it to the internet. But, I'm planning on using the ham repeaters in my area. I've done it before with an SDR, but it was really, really bad. So, I always have to adjust the scroach every day. And, it just became a full time job. And, I just want something where I can set up and not worry about it. And, there's also an SC where if I transmit it onto those local repeaters, it would also make the SDR a little bit a little weird. It wouldn't even pick up the transmissions when I transmitted. So, I've been trying to solve that issue as well. And, also when I receive it with the battle thing, AB-5RS, it's going to be located in the basement server room. That's where I want to wrap up. And, yeah, I'm going to hand it back now. Thanks for taking my check in. Well, I had a really fabulous day here today. I'm still going through family pictures. I'll probably be doing that until my dying days because I've got so many, but boy is it fun. And I'm especially having fun because I've been sending some to my son that are so far back that he doesn't remember them at all. So I'm showing him the pictures of people that he met, family members he met that he has no clue about anymore. So it's a ton of fun. Anyway, that's what's been keeping me busy other than, of course, station manager Polo who keeps me exercised. So yeah, at least twice a day I take him out and we have a good, good walk and sometimes even a little bit of a run. Back to you, K308. This is the Peter St. Peter's. Oh, well, Scritches to Polo. I'm glad you're keeping you active there. I love that. I love that. Hopefully the weather wasn't too bad and Polo is willing to go out and do his stuff very good there. Probably found some breaks in the rain there. And I would say for the family photos, yeah, you don't even remember. I have certain family photos with my grandparents and a bunch of slides and stuff. And the biggest thing is label everything because if the kids don't remember who these people are, like, you know, someone's looking through these later and they'll have no idea. So just use your memory and label everything and try to get those disseminated to the people that would want them but make sure they're labeled and even rough guesses of what year it might have been and that kind of stuff there. It really, really helps preserve that stuff. But very good stuff. Glad you're going through that. Thanks for that, Bethany and Rich. All right, up next we're going to talk to Campbell. That's always the important thing that we make it safely, and then the sky did get dark quickly. I know we took the station managers out for a walk and we're like, oh, well go for when it's sunny and then by the time we got outside it was raining. So, yes, the clouds were definitely moving through in a hurry today and definitely there was some good-sized rain squalls that moved through, but it was kind of nice to have sunshine and then it would be dark for a little bit and sunshine definitely important to keep that sunshine coming out and I know we desperately need the rain too. Still, that was nice. You have a wonderful rest of your Wednesday, Shawn, and we're glad you are still alive and hanging in there with us.
