Although, I will say this morning has been really interesting. We got up and it was 51 when we got up. It dropped down to 33, now it's back to 42, and that's dropping off again. So I have no idea what the temperature is doing out there, so okay, but we've got a major front blowing through and you'll get these little windy kind of swirly gusts and things and the temperature is all over the place. Yeah, I slept in this morning, man, big time, like over an hour longer than my max sleep-in time. Typically 8.30 in the morning is the max. My alarm will go off at quarter to nine, and then I'm up, right? But I woke up at six o'clock this morning due to cats pawing at me and another one jumping over me, and you know, it's just it got a little out of hand. So I turned on my Facebook. I listen to these stories on Facebook, but you got to leave your screen on. They play like in video form. It's like gameplay in the background, but it's like talking, telling stories like of, you know, corporate betrayal and family betrayal and all this kind of stuff, right? So when you're listening to that stuff, for some reason, notifications don't go through. They'll show up on the screen, but they won't make their designated noise. Like if you get Facebook messages or texts or anything like that, they'll pop up on the screen, but they won't make a noise because it thinks you're watching a video. Yes, right? Even though the phone is laid down, it's still playing. So when my alarm went off this morning, it did the same thing. It didn't make any noise, but when my driver came this morning to take me to get my shot, he knocked on the door and I jumped above the couch like, you know, well, what was that thing? And I was awake. But then when I looked at my phone, here's like text messages, Facebook messages, my alarm, all that is there. But the alarm is still going off like an hour, over an hour later, and it doesn't make any noises. That, like, that should really be a setting, like that you should be able to change, you know, make alarm sounds all the time or something like that. But it doesn't do it. If you're watching a video and you can, like, or if you're listening to the audio from the video and you got your phone laid down, you're not going to get no notifications. You're not going to get no audible notifications anyway. So that's what threw me off this morning. So I'm here now, though, and thanks for starting it off. Great. Much appreciated, man. When my driver picked me up, I was like, oh, crap, I'm supposed to be going to a radio show this morning. I don't have a clue who's doing it or what's going on or anything I said. And, you know, I knew someone would obviously pick it up, but I just wasn't sure who. And so much appreciated, man. Next up, we're going to go to Kevin, VA3 at KKY. It's just coming to 8.30 over here at the end. And as usual it's raining. It's the UK, well what on earth do I expect? But apparently we're having a storm tomorrow and it's significant because it has a name. I forgot what the name is now but there's a weather warning for my area for heavy rain and localised flooding. Yeah, that's K5. But it really affects me. I'm high enough above all the river levels and all the rest of it. I'm kind of at the bottom of the big deep slope but it's not an issue for me to build up the area. We've got plenty of bird drains and plenty of gravity. Well not quite at the bottom. So yeah, I was looking earlier to see if there were any self-driving cars. Oh God no. Oh dear, it's probably not being a passenger when somebody else is driving. Oh dear, I've been saving my own motorbikes for well over a decade. Only one still acting on the particular motorbike. I hated it, it's like I'm not in my control. Oh dear, watch out for that twig in the road. Slow down. I make a terrible, terrible backseat driver. The thought of having a machine in charge. Oh dear, that's even worse. I'm kind of having another person in charge. But a machine? Oh no, no, no, no. Definitely not. Call me a lug-eyed if you want to but yeah, there are certain things that we are meant to do and that's being in charge of driving, in control of driving and riding and that sort of thing. But yeah, it's just a personal, point of view. I was kind of remembering the fact that my machine was driving somewhere and I kept going to press the brake and I was the passenger and all I got was a loud thump from the floor. And it's definitely, it's driving a guy who looks constantly mixed. Your brakes are not working. He wasn't driving fast because he was not being in control. I mean that's the other thing actually, because I spent most of my time as a service engineer driving around the country on my own. I used to find having a passenger was an absolute distraction. You know, it's one of those things where the radio was just to shut the passenger off and suddenly I forgot to say it just quietly. I'm driving. Oh dear, dear, dear, dear. Yes, so I went completely destroyed by my cues off the radio. I think it's probably time for me to shut up. I'm here in the shot and I keep hearing the talk of kittens and cats and dogs and things and not to mention squirrels and things. I think it's a bit of a test and I think, nah, I've got the easy life. I can do what I want when I want. I don't have to worry about any other creatures, cats, kittens, dogs, boys, anything like that. I just enjoy being so lonely. It's great. Go with the likes, do what the likes, spend what the likes. Having said that, there is no, how can I put this, no simple issue about what I do and when I do it and how much I spend, which is probably not good. I probably should be supervised to a certain extent. Or at least just open up all this, remind you to think twice sometimes. Anyway, that's the rambling report from the Shire. Hopefully the weather's a little bit better over in Seattle. So back to you Jack and waving a hand to all the guys on the net. From the net, I was going to say, from the Worcestershire. Well, he's wet and miserable, Worcestershire. So back to that control, back to you Jack, from the L.L.P. Worcestershire. Alright Les, hey don't stray too far from the station there because I've got something to tell you. This year, I heard you say this storm may not affect you, but I might want to let you know that storm Benjamin, which is rolling in tonight and tomorrow, will bring gales and heavy rain which will impact southern and eastern England, including the Redwich area. So I know you said you're a little bit higher up. I know you've got backup batteries and all the good stuff to have in case your power goes out, but I would imagine with a storm that they named back there, I would imagine that you could have power outages, even though being a little higher up. Has that happened in the past?"},{"callsign_confidence":0.85,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-10-17T12:38:11+00:00","id":62578,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":62577,"text":" Alright Dave, well I'm so glad you two are okay. I've been working my way through a grab bag I picked up at Vetco Electronics. They only have the $20 bags there now but they're enormous. I thought I had pretty good heft to it when I picked out the bag and I was wrong. They're stuffing, they're stuffing partices full of electronic parts as far as I can tell. But so many good gifts in there. A whole ton of electrolyte capacitors. Not sure what I'm going to use them for yet because I haven't started taking apart old radios. I could get into that I suppose. But I also had a GPS antenna and some I think they're lithium cell batteries. But they have no normal markings, no markings that actually identify them. Voltage checks out. I'm going to very carefully try charging them and see what happens. But yeah just a ton of fun parts in there. Having a blast going through that. Taking a little inventory and trying to keep it organized because if I bring stuff in faster than I can get it into organized drawers and stuff. I will be awash in electronics and won't be able to find anything ever again. But yeah that's pretty much what's going on over here. Nice to hear from everybody. One toothpick per dip, please. Sour cream and toothpicks. Again, one toothpick per dip, please. That helps prevent the spread of germs that can contribute to things like COVID. My wife is over here laughing. All right. So I don't know. Some people call them different things. Some call them jalapeno poppers. Some people call them Texas Twinkies. Some people call them armadillo eggs. There's lots of different ways to make them. I have made them multiple ways many times. But my wife and mine and probably my kids' favorite ways to eat them is actually done at a restaurant. And we could copy them at home, but it does take a lot of work. Basically what they do is they take a rather large jalapeno and they cut a slice down the middle of it, like lengthways. They tie it open, squeeze it open and scrape out all the seeds and membrane, all the white. That's where the heat is at in a pepper. So they scrape all that out. And then what they do is they pack it back in there with smoked brisket and some cheese. They pack it pretty tight with that. And then they'll go ahead and freeze it. When they get ready to cook it, well, I don't know how to restaurant. I know how we do it here at the house. When we get ready to cook it, we'll take it out. We'll make it a three-dip station. We do it with all of our fried stuff, air fried too nowadays. But basically you roll it in flour. You roll it in an egg mixture with a little bit of milk and then you roll it in panko breadcrumbs or whatever. We do that a couple of times, like we try to build up a pretty good thick shell around the jalapeno. And the best way to do those is to deep fry them. So when you get done, you basically have a baked-in jalapeno with whatever kind of meat you like. It doesn't have to be brisket. It can be pork. It can be anything. Whatever kind of cheeses you like or whatever kind of stuffings you like in it. I mean, you don't have to put meat in it. I've seen people take and put cream cheese and spinach and stuff it with those. I've seen people use chopped pork. I've seen people use chopped chicken. I've seen people use sausage and bacon. So there's lots of different ways to change that. Then we usually make that dipping sauce or a few dipping sauces actually with it. If you're doing it like that, I like me personally, I just like a ranch dipping sauce. Homemade, of course. But there's also homemade Chick-fil-A sauces and stuff like that or something spicier. And I feel bad because, like, I don't feel comfortable announcing that I'm going to be, like, gone for a long time on ham radio. Like, I don't know, just... it's one of those... I think I have maybe, like, a higher privacy bar than some people. So now it's not on the air. It's not great. But then... and then I'm just gone. And so I've been gone for, like, maybe a month, maybe five weeks. Visiting family in California, taking advantage of being able to work remotely, and... And, yeah, just spending time with my folks and my nieces and nephews and Jesse's folks. And it was really great. I went with the intention of, like, all right, I got Droidstar set up and, like, I really want to check in on the nets on the weekends. And, you know what, like, the nieces and nephews, like, always had some activity they wanted to do or whatnot at nine in the morning. And so I ended up just doing all sorts of crazy family stuff. It was pretty fantastic. I guess one thing I have been doing this morning was actually looking at finding a spare tire for my car because on this trip I ended up getting a... Some sidewall puncture that was, like, big enough to stick my thumb into on a country road and my car did not come with a spare tire. And the fix-a-flat that it comes with that they're like, yeah, you just put this in and pump it up, can't repair a hole that size. So I ended up waiting for, like, four hours for a tow truck to come down this country road and pick me up to get a new tire. So, yeah, I'd like to avoid that sometimes because I'd like to go down country roads in the future. But, yeah, we'll see what I come up with. Anyways, I am so glad to be back in Pacific Northwest.
