We're going to Bill next. N9-O-F-U, Bill. Mike, it's yours, man. So did you have any more time to play with your glasses? Did you manage to get the image more dialed in? I know you were saying you were having trouble seeing the bottom of the displays. Did you manage to get that tilted and configured properly? Because I understand you can take the arms and you can jack them up and down to make it so that the position is a little different. And I think you can alter the nose pieces as well. I think it may have come with some more nose pieces. You can alter those and make it sit higher if that's an option for you as well. Go ahead, Bill. Nice to control. And I'll get back to that. Kevin was wondering why you have to have a hand license to get on Echolink. And I messaged him, but the main reason is because Echolink goes out over ham repeaters. I mean, you've got your repeater and Echolink's going out over that. So in order to be able to legally be on that repeater, you've got to have a hand license. But the Zello doesn't transmit over ham bands. No one's got it connected up to a repeater. So they don't need a hand license to go over Zello because it's not broadcast over ham repeaters. But that's the main reason why you need a hand license to get on Echolink, because Echolink is a very, very because Echolink is connected to the airwaves via ham repeaters to the air for 40, even 10 meters. So that was what I wanted to say about that. And guys, there was one other thing. And maybe it'll come to me after I talk about the glasses. I can turn it a little bit more. No, a whole lot more. Last couple of days of our visibility, trying to keep up with things. We were only supposed to come down to Vegas yesterday and they turned around to go right back, but they ended up asking us to go to California to pick up the business load because they needed to get it picked up and they were running out of options for people. 430 miles to go and seven hours and 21 minutes to get there. So it's gotta be tight. Might end up having to take 10 hours off and then go deliver it. Hopefully not. But so the, I had a hard time seeing when I connected to... To... I didn't. But it's a little more wide than it is tall. And I don't have any problems with that screen. But when I connected to the Samsung phone, it comes up with, I think it's called Samsung DX. And it gives me a computer-sized computer screen with applications on the screen. Let's come and grab one. All right, with a computer-sized computer system, take the monitor on the screen. And that screen is taller and not as wide. And that's when I get, you know, I have the problems down at the bottom corners with some of the screen contained out of view a little bit. So I have to maneuver a little bit with the glasses in order to see the bottom, bottom corners. But if I click on video and watch a video through the Android Samsung, and I'm able to see the whole screen, and I'm not struggling to see the bottom parts. And again, when I watch a video, for the most part, it's in focus. You can't really tell if it's too much out of focus. It's just when it gets into, if it's got a text, you know, if it's subtitled. So I can't really tell if it's in focus. And in that respect, that's when I have a little more problem with the clarity of the prescription there. So I haven't really focused on that too much. Because mostly what I'll be using it for is for watching videos. I don't know if I'll be back, you know, get up to the computer and use it that way. Now on the iMac, I have, if I have the iMac opened, well, the iMac's opened, I don't know if I can close it and still have the screen. And you wouldn't want to, because you want the keyboard. But you can see what's happening on the screen. It's just doing mirroring. But you can also set it up so that you can have, the glasses have the extra screen. You have an extra screen. And then you can move everything to that extra screen. And that extra screen will be blocked off from you. So you can have just your regular screen up on your computer but then have your extra screen and be doing all the stuff on the extra screen. That way nobody can see what you're working on on the computer. So there's that. But yeah, so far that's all I've been able to play with. When I did look at some of the ads, it did look like they had three screens up but that might be on a Windows computer. And I haven't connected it to my Windows computer yet. So I haven't had a chance to play with that. But while it looks like there was an accident on 15 South, the traffic is way backed up to back view."},{"callsign_confidence":0.94,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-08-01T18:09:55+00:00","id":12957,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":12956,"text":" Thank you Virgil, K4CUP and thank you KK78LD and yeah, you know it's amazing what sugar can do right? N9, OFU, Bill, is that truck of yours moving again? This is KC2PKG, how was your weekend? And what's your plans for the week? Yeah, I hope not. I'm not in the truck right now. It's moving, I'm in trouble. But we are on the road. We're back heading down towards Las Vegas for delivery and then California for pickup. We'll come back up and then eventually get the next load afterwards down to Vegas so we can get back to Phoenix. The student was supposed to test out on Wednesday, but we're going to end up having to move it to Thursday or Friday because of this load that we took going down to California. But she's the one that pushed the button. She goes, we can take that. And I said, yeah, but if we take that, then we're going to have to change your schedule for your test. She goes, that's fine. Change it. So I said, all right, well, I'll let you do it then. So we are on the roll. I just stopped here at the truck stop. Well, to take a quick little nap. My hip's been getting back to normal. Still a little off, but without all the excessive pain and everything going shooting down through my leg. So happy about that. But I stopped to take a nap and did that. Didn't want to get up. But I finally got up and I'm cooking a soup real quick for a meal. Then I'm going to get back, head and south and be home by the end of the week. And my next student is in school. She graduates on Friday. So pick her up probably Saturday or Sunday the 7th, which we end up getting back. But keep me on the list. I'll be here for the rest of the night. And I know a few back to KC2 to KG. And I know a few. This is Casey to KG. Well, it sounds like you got a really good student this time. That's great. That is great news. And let's talk to Jeff since we haven't heard from him in forever. So can for QBC is a case to P.K.G. How was your weekend? And got plans for the week. This is Casey to P.K.G. Good morning. Casey to P.K.G. Good morning. Can for QBC. Everything's good in western North Carolina. And we've been camping. Camping for a week at the local campground here. I tried to check in there a time or two. But the service is just not that great. And then I worked for a week and it was extremely busy. So I ended up sleeping in most of the mornings. And then we went to camp. And last week I was at a primitive campground. There's no service over there too. So I did come out a couple of evenings. I texted Bill, maybe and Daryl. It was a big mess because it rained all week. The thing was soaking wet. We got home yesterday. We had a good time but it was just extremely wet. Anyway, so that's the last three weeks. That's what I've been doing. Camping, work, camping. So I'm back now. I've got work Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday this week. Anyway, Q.B.L.S. Great camp for QBC. Hope you're well. Camp for QBC. I am well. This is KC2PKG. Let's go to Ralph. N8YQJ. Ralph, what's going on? And would you pronounce his name? O-N-O-N-D-A-G-A in Michigan. How do you pronounce that? This is KC2PKG. It'll be U. N8YQJ. Okay, very good. Wish they'd give all of you and everybody else into the net. And that is pronounced on Hana-daga. Hana-daga. Just a small little town out in the middle of nowhere here in Michigan. Had two bars. A post office. They did put a dollar store in. Family Dollar. It's been here for about two years now. But it'll end a gas station. And that's about it. So the biker bar burnt down a couple of years ago. So, and they decided not to rebuild. But as a resident of Michigan, it didn't matter if you rode, if you didn't ride, if you lived a long ways away from Hana-daga, everybody knew about OTs. It was a decent bar. When I first started hanging out out here with Pam, we went up there to get some lunch. And we ordered two trikes, which is a two-wheel drive. And I think we drank four beers. You know, maybe five. Because I think I drank three and she drank two. And the bill wasn't 20 bucks. And I'm going, wow. I think I could fall in love with this place. But I'm not going to lie. I'm not going to lie. I'm not going to lie. I think I could fall in love with this place. But Hana-daga, we did have a Hana-daga drag strip. That is like about two miles from the house. But it shut down and it reopened and shut down again. But that was what this little town was known for too. People would come to Hana-daga for the drag races. So we have a problem with the young kids drag racing in Lansing. And there's been a lot of accidents. So when they reopened the drag strip, he posted on social media, come out here. We'll let you drag race for free. And so I don't know what happened, why they shut the drag strip back down. But I'm kind of sad to see it go. But yeah, it's pronounced Hana-daga. Let me buy a second. OK. Pam bought this place, oh, I don't know, five years ago. And she's got 11 acres out here. And it's just nice. Nice area. So it's nice because we're waiting. It's 30 minutes from Lansing, the capital city, and 30 minutes from Jackson. So we're right in between two major cities. So that's what I like about it. You need to go to Blows or Home Depot or something and pick something up that'll be not that far. 30 minutes from my workplace. So it just all kind of works out pretty good. Clay, I should be around so you can keep me on the list. Back to you. All right, it ain't white, TJ. This is KC2PKG, and I've got a good plan to plug here. I believe my headset is dying. All right. All right, well, we'll get one more call for check-ins. And then we're going to play some 20 questions. So sharpen up. Remember your team if you'd like to get on the Monday morning edition of the Cowabunga Net. Come out here, guys. We'll be right back. All right, so we're going to play some 20 questions. That's too bad. Um, okay, well, I'm just a meatloaf lover in the house, so we're gonna go to Josh. KJ5IRQ Josh. B-loaf. Do you like it? Do you make it? How do you make it? This is KC2PKG. This is Repeater Station Kilo 7, KJ. I would like to know who actually eats meatloaf. Kilo is nasty. I mean, it's filled with crap like meat. And binders. And spices. Oh, wait. Meat. I'm the people. I love meatloaf. I, uh, actually, I don't even care for the meatloaf when it's cooked. I'll eat it, mashed potatoes and all that. Cool, whatever. Man, it's the next day. I'm telling you, that's where it's at. Meatloaf sliced up, served on some bread. Where it's at. Especially if you have a little bit of, you know, gravy and a little bit of mashed cabbage. I do the same thing on Thanksgiving, though. The next day on Thanksgiving, I usually make me a Thanksgiving sandwich. And it's gonna have turkey and cranberry and stuffing. And, yeah, it's just one big nasty sandwich. Man, it's so... Meatloaf. Yes, we do have meatloaf here. And it's different to anyone who makes it. My last cooks are completely different than how I do. I do two versions. One's a gourmet version and one's just an everyday version. The everyday version, I either get really good ground beef or I buy a chuck roaster and make it myself. There's a texture thing involved with meatloaf, I think. I also don't just use generic breadcrumbs on it. My life almost always has some sourdough bread around here somewhere. So we drive that out and we make the breadcrumbs out of that. But what I do in mine, I think a lot of people do, maybe not on this match. At least here, in my neck of the woods. We're moving our meatloaf together. We've got our meat in our binders and spices. Bell peppers and onions. It's already been softened. Sometimes I grill them and then I'll saut\u00e9 them a little bit. Get that char built into it. Lay all those profiles. And, yeah, we'll get that whole sucker mixed together. And then what I do is I'll hollow out the center and put some cheese in there. And I'll cover it up with some more meat, you see. So basically I made a meatloaf pocket for cheese. But it doesn't end with that. No, no sir. I like to go one step further. And I'll throw that sucker on my smoker. If you've never had smoked meatloaf. Now, I'm not saying liquid smoke. I've used that in the past and it works to the pitch. But it's a poor substitution for a good smoked meatloaf. Unfortunately, this day and age, eating smoked really kind of hurts my digestive track. But that's one of those things that I'll have. Gosh, I'll probably don't make meatloaf like that twice a year maybe. It's a lot of work. But, man, I'll tell you what. It is the best meatloaf. And I also kind of like Dell. I don't use ketchup. We make a barbecue sauce and it's a simple barbecue sauce. We make it for chicken, for everything basically. And we use that. So, yeah, there you go. KJ5, IOKU, back to the neck control. I'm not a big fan of smoked things, but that sounds really good. KJ5, IRQ, this is KC2, PTG. All right. We will move on to KN6, UYZ. Do you like meatloaf, John? And do you make meatloaf? Or what is your favorite meatloaf? What about you? Uh, lost your name. Okay. KN6, UYZ. This is KC2, PKG. Uh, good morning again, KN6, UYZ. Yeah, I like meatloaf a lot. Although I've never made it in 77 years. Uh, because I don't really know how. I don't really know much about spices and things like that. Uh, I guess my favorite way of having it would be the way my mother used to make it. However that was. So, I guess I like meatloaf. Uh, but, uh, what, barbecue sauce on the top? Yeah, I'm sure that would be tasty, and I would be happy to eat that. Especially with some mashed potatoes. But, uh, the way I was used to it was with some kind of ketchup, uh, flavoring on the top. So that would be my preferred way to go. So I don't have anything that interesting, I just don't make it. Never have anything that interesting about it. I don't want to have any of that. Uh, I'll tell you what that is. I'm going to get a little bit of a good slice of meatloaf. Uh, I've got a little bit of a good slice of meatloaf. And, uh, I've got the chicken and the chicken. I just don't make it, never have, but if somebody wants to invite me over, I'll be happy to come and eat it for you. KN6UYZ, back to Nat. Beep. KN6UYZ. All right, we gotta take her. If you got extra meat, we'll invite John over. This is KC2PKG. Oh, and you got my mind to whirl. Josh, with the meatloaf sandwiches, they really are good. They really are good. That used to be my first wife's favorite thing in the world was meatloaf sandwiches. And you really have to work on the body of the loaf itself, so it can be sliced very, very thin. And that takes a little extra binding to make it work like that. All right, Chuck, AA4HI. Hey, loaf, do you like it? Do you make it? And if you do, how do you make it? This is KC2PKG. Beep. You know, Cory, I'm not a big fan of meatloaf. It's okay. But it's not my favorite food. Well, I mean, maybe my wife maybe makes it a couple times a year, and never in the summer. You know how it is here. I don't see anything like that in the summer. At least me, I don't. So I don't really go crazy when I hear it's being cooked. I'm like, okay. I don't think it's wonderful, so to speak. But anyway, that's the way it goes. What do y'all like, what was it like? So I'm great, I don't like it. With some ketchup on top, onions, and whatever else is in it. But I don't know, I really am not like cheese. I can't wait to eat it. So I probably went on to the first one who says I really just don't like meatloaf. Anyway, back with you, AA4HI. Beep. Ah, we got one. AA4HI, this is KC2PKG. I was waiting for somebody to say I really don't like meatloaf. So you won the prize, gold star for you. All right, Terry, MM0RKN. Meatloaf, do you make it, do you like it? Is it different in Scotland somehow? We'd love to know all your thoughts about meatloaf. So this is KC2PKG, over to you, MM0RKN. Beep. Beep. We'd use lean scotch beef mince, three rashers of bacon, finely chopped, an onion, finely chopped, carrots, tomato, and some herbs would be put in there as well. Maybe like chives or parsley or something. And you'd have three tablespoons of fresh bread. And it would be put into a baking tin. Just cook, you can slice it into nice slices. It's perfect for sandwiches as well. So yeah, that's how the traditional Scottish meatloaf is there today. MM0RKN, back to net control. Beep. MM0RKN, this is KC2PKG. That sounds good. That sounds like a recipe that would work. You know, there's two basic philosophies I've noticed for meatloaf. You can have meatloaf with gravy and potatoes, or you can have meatloaf with ketchup. And I've never seen the two put together, but the philosophy up here in Maine, where we go, the meatloaf has gravy on it, tons of it, and lots of potatoes. So meat and potato cake. But when I was growing up, it was sliced much finer. It had ketchup on it, there's the eight, it had ketchup. November, Quebec, November. All-star notes, please use. And so just a totally different thing. Some people put them in a loaf sheet, and some people put them on a baking sheet, a rimmed baking sheet, and they just leave it open, a mound. That's how my son does it. And either one works, either one works. Okay, Bill, N9OFU. Meatloaf, we're talking meatloaf here. Do you like it? Do you make it? And if so, how? This is KC2PKG. All right, well, no, I don't make it. And my wife doesn't make it. So if I eat it, the only chance I get to eat it is if I find it out in the wild. I use a bow and arrow, shoot it, take it down. You know? No, but there's Chuck's Up, Flying J, and Pilot. They all have meatloaf. And every now and then, I'll grab one of their slices of meatloaf, you know, get it with potatoes and vegetables. And it comes with a red paste on it, either ketchup or something. Similar, maybe I have tomato paste, but I think it's probably more ketchup. I think my mom used to make it when I was a kid, because I seem to recall having it when I was a kid. But other than that, it's just being able to grab it. Sometimes when I'm out on the road and I get a hankering for it, I remember, every now and then I might find a buffet that has some meatloaf as one of the items on there. So I usually grab some of that too. But that's what I know about meatloaf. I don't eat it. It's not something I go out of my way for that I have to have, but I don't mind it. It's a fine meat-like substance that I do enjoy eating from time to time. All right, back to you. Oops, sorry, sorry. Also, the other last question. I remember my mom had gotten a screen door, a wooden screen door from someone who moved and it didn't fit her door. So it was my chore to take that thing and make it fit. So I had to do some trimming here and there, then add some stuff on the bottom to keep the bugs out. I totally forgot about that. So I was proud that I was able to get that put together and up for her and her mobile home there in Casa Grande. Back to you. N90FU, this is KC2, PKG. It's interesting, because I just finished retrimming a screen door to fit in a very, very old porch where everything is warped. So we used a spring and a wire to pull it tightly closed. Come on, because screen doors aren't much fun if they've got big cracks around them. All right, KM4QVC Jeff Meatloaf, we're talking Meatloaf. Do you like it? Do you have it often? Do you not make it? And if you do, then how do you make it? This is KC2, PKG. KC2, PKG, KM4QVC. Josh was talking about she just bakes it to that right, I don't know, it's kinda crispy around the edges a little bit, and then ketchup on top. So I think she puts that on there because she gets it out. Anyway, I love it, I love it. And later that same day, we used that for supper. I'll make the sandwich with a little mayo, white bread, and just a touch more ketchup. So yeah, man, I'm all about it for KM4QVC. All right, another big vote for Meatloaf. This is KC2, PKG, thank you very much, KM4QVC. And we'll try Ralph again, see if he's out there. Hey, YQJ, do you like Meatloaf, Ralph? And do you make it? We'd love to know how you make it. This is KC2, PKG."},{"callsign_confidence":1.0,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-08-04T06:04:12+00:00","id":13986,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":13985,"text":" The 01 UKZ, you have a smooth ride and an easy shot. In the meantime, we're going to go to the KN4LBF. J, what have you repaired or restored that you think you did a pretty good job on? It's over to you, D. This is KC2PKG. This is KN4LBF. This is D. It was something very simple, but I am proud of it. When my parents died, they had this Asian 3D face made of porcelain. It's about two feet long and one feet wide. And I'm looking at it. And through the years, it's about 75 years old right now, it looked like it needed a little uplift. So the figure on top hat is a female, and it had a crown on top of her head. And I repainted the crown gold and just her sleeve gold. And the retouch was amazing. It just made an amazing improvement how it looked. And I'm just looking at it right now. And I'm pretty proud of it. Back to you, Gray. This is KN4LBF. KN4LBF. This is KC2PKG. Porcelain. Have you repaired or restored porcelain? That sounds very hard. It really does. And the fact that you painted it and you're proud of it, that's great. That is great news. Josh, PJ5IRQ, what's something that you either repaired or restored that you're particularly proud of the job you did? This is KC2PKG. Open to you, Josh. PJ5IRQ. KC2PKG. This is KJ5 on cue. Something I would have had that I'm particularly proud of, oh, gosh, I remodeled a house before. That was pretty cool. I'd say I remodeled houses around here. And the houses are houses, I should especially clarify that. I've repaired a lot of things. KitchenAid. My wife loves the KitchenAid mixer. And all year after we bought our, I think it was our second one, it went out like the first one. I was getting really frustrated with it. So I did some digging around. And it's the brushings. I don't know why I didn't think about that with the first one. I fell a fool because I threw the first one away for like $20. I got to replace the brushings and kept the first one. I replaced the KitchenAid with some good brushings. And gosh, it's been years. And it's still working just fine. She uses it all the time. That was personally a good fix. KitchenAid mixes, you know the cream and galakop, at least that's what I was really concerned. There ain't no point in paying more money than that for something that does the same thing. Let's see. I do have a project coming up. As soon as it starts cooling off into the fall, rather I want to be outside all day every day. We have an old family bench. Joseph E. Ford built this bench. Not that y'all would know him, but he happened to be one of the first people in the Middle of Wales to open the store. And she's got to give you an idea how old this bench is. I have an actual picture of him in this last sitting on it. It is 1888. It's over the rock. It was my grandparents, of course. It got passed down to me. And it's an old, bad shape. I mean, it is a bad shape. But we're going to look into repairing it. I want to keep it as original as possible with as much wood as possible. So I may end up using clear epoxy or something to fill in some voids. But the idea is to bring it back to a shade of a swirly void. I can't tell you how many seeds of the fence people in my family have sat in that bench over the years. I mean, if some of them could tell a story, wouldn't you love to sit and have that word pour out the stories since, at least in my family since the late 1880s? Man, talk about an explosion of lighting ideas. Anyhow, yeah, so that's coming up. That bench, I'm really excited about it. The only thing I don't know is who gets it after me. I've got two boys and a daughter. And it's always stayed with somebody with a last name before it. So I'm sure it will stay with my boys. And I sure it won. And so I'm going to see who ends up at the house in a safe place for it. And that's probably who will get it. Sorry, I had to reset for a second. I was running out of time. Anyhow, that's it. I'll send it back to you, KJ5. I'll help you back to KG2PKG. KJ5 IRQ, this is KG2PKG. A bench, a family bench. That sounds cool. That sounds cool. I'd love to see a picture of that. KI7ODD, I see you in the text box. You want to give it a shot now? Tell us how your weekend was. Maybe tell us about something you restored or repaired that you're particularly proud of. Over to you, KI7ODD. This is KG2PKG. This is better now. This is KI7ODD. KI2KC2PKG. I actually am thinking, let me think. Oh, yeah. I restored stuff before that. My squeaky here is my fan. It just squeaks, squeaks, squeaks. So don't worry about that. I should have read this text thing. Ah, never again. All right, I hope my audio's better. I'm sorry about earlier. It was my rig. I need a new one. I need a new rig. Gosh darn it. All right. What I did yesterday was I was thinking about beading, playing with my, getting my crafting done. I did some sewing last weekend, but this weekend I am going to go on and be at the Idaho State Convention for ham radio this year, which is going to be awesome. I hope I get the 7800 icon. I hope I get it. Just hopefully I can get it this time. I don't, I don't. I can't, I couldn't even sleep last night. Sorry about that interference earlier. All right, have a good day guys and gals. Okay, this is KI 7 ODD, Murray in Spokane, Washington. KI 7 ODD, I'm Murray. That's pretty good. That's pretty good. That, your audio sounded fine. That time it was perfect going through there. So I've got you on the list. We'll be hitting you again. And Steve, N0BF, I've got you on the list too. We're just going to keep working down the way we're doing it. DA 4 HO. Ron, is there something that you repaired that you are particularly proud of? So what do you do? A4 HO, this is KC 2. Yeah, you know, you might remember me talking about, you know, when I redid the bathroom and the shower, I put caulking and you're supposed to put silicone on it, and I put silicone on it. And I put silicone on it. And I put silicone on it. And I put silicone on it. And I put silicone on it. And I put silicone on it. And I'm supposed to put silicone. And then I, you know, when it started leaking underneath, I had to get all of that out and redo it and put silicone in there. But that's really nice. You know, I got granite top on the, you know, the sink, new sink and toilet, completely new shower. And it's really nice. I did the water heater and the copper pipe I had left over, I made myself a UHF antenna that I use with my All Star Network. Whenever I'm on my mobile rig or HT and I'm on All Star, the signal goes through the antenna before you hear me on here if I was to do that. And I got one of those nano-VNA's to make sure, you know, it was resonant at the right frequency. That I needed it at. All kinds of things. The vehicle I drive now is new. The one before that, even though this was an upgrade, it had all of the features because I put in a lot of aftermarket stuff. The GPS I added and a whole mess of things. The side rails to step into it. Of that I do, but I didn't have to do that with this last vehicle I just bought. You know, because it came with it all. But I did install and put the automatic garage door opener in. And that I'm pretty proud of. It works really good. Now I just drive up to the house and I don't even go out the front door anymore when I take the car. You know, it's in and out through the garage. The door opens, pull the car in, door goes down, come in through the garage now. If I think about it, there's a lot of stuff. Except for the stuff, you know, I don't have the tools for it. I have to pay somebody to do it. AA4HO, Ron Nirma, Florida, back to you, Gray and Nick. AA4HO, this is KC2PKG. And it is all the something with the house. You know, I lived in a house in Morristown for 30 years. And I can't tell you how many weekends I spent either under the car or working on the house or cleaning up that yard. It was just endless, endless. I'm so glad to be out of that. Because I don't like any of that stuff. As it turns out, it's kind of fun to create things. It's kind of fun to repair places. But when you're doing it in all your free time, I built a car there. An Aztec 7 from FiberFab, which goes on a Volkswagen chassis. And that would best two years of my life. I'm never going to get back. I went to sleep, because it's fiberglass, I went to sleep crunchy every night. It was just terrible. My wife hated it. Alright, KN6UYZ. What have you repaired or restored that you're particularly proud of? Okay, John, this is KC2PKG. Over to you. KN6UYZ, thanks so much for having me as usual. Yeah, you know, in 1970 I bought a Corvette. And, you know, come around 1974 or 5, the car needed a great job. And so I decided to take care of it myself. And jacked up each tire individually at the house. And decided I'd grab a screwdriver and place it between the calipers and the rotors and pry the brakes apart so I could insert a new pad on all four wheels. Well, that worked great. Good job. Padded myself on the back. I took off in that car and next thing I know, I know, the brakes were pushing all the way to the floor. I had to have that car towed back to the dealership and it cost me $1500 in 1975 to have that brake job done properly. Apparently you're supposed to relieve the pressure in the system, in the brake fluid system because I didn't do that before pulling everything apart and losing the, and I blew the seals and all the pistons. And this is a dual caliper system. And it was very expensive. I don't know what $1500 in today's money might be, but it was a problem. So with the exception of not being proud about my brake job, yeah, that's one of my better jobs. Back in that K and 6 UYZ. K and 6 UYZ. Boy, that brought back memories. This is KC2, PKG. I used to always do my own brakes and all of that stuff. And what it leads to is you're driving down the highway two states away from your house and you're thinking to yourself, did I put that spring back in? In the left rear tire? Did I put that spring in? Those were my thoughts after working on my car almost every single time. I was like, I don't remember. And of course, the first brake takes three hours. And the second one takes two hours. Third one, you know, takes about an hour and a half and the fourth one is over so fast you can't remember if you put the spring in or not. It just gets better and better as you go around. Alright, AA-4HI. Chuck, what have you restored or repaired that you are particularly proud of? It's over to you Chuck, AA-4HI. This is KC2, PKG. This is repeater station key low. We had some heads up and some chairs and last night I had to figure that out. And it took a long time. A lot of winter to get on the fingers. It's just about all done. And I want to do it again now. I can understand why people charge so much to do it. You know, time and of course it's just too easy to work. But, um, you have to wear your guns, you know. It just takes a while to do things. Yeah, it is. Anything you're rushing through sometimes it's just not going to be the way you expected it. So, um, anyway, same with the old antennas I like to try out, to build. I mean, you just have to think about it, give it a shot. If not, repurpose it. But, uh, the chairs I think are the best thing where you're wrong. So, what I've done in handling them, they took a long time. They done, throughout the summer just working on them. You know, when she was out. So, uh, anyway, that would be it. Back on to you, AA4-HI. AA4-HI, this is KC2-PKG, Wicker work. That's weaving, weaving with Wicker. That is a big job, especially if you've never done it before. Because you have to figure out what the pattern is. And then kind of trace it back. And a lot of those things, as I remember, the Wicker is fastened with a wooden peg. You know, it goes in, you put the Wicker in the hole and then you pound it in a little piece of wood to hold it there. Yours may work differently, but the ones that I worked on, that's what you had to do. And you had to get that peg out first. Um, it's not specialized, but it is trying. It's very trying, I think. MM0RKN, Gary, when you repaired or restored, you think you did a pretty good job on. It's KC2-PKG over to MM0RKN. MM0RKN returning. Well, Gary, very frequently, I have to repair and restore Lego figures that have broken various Lego models. Cabs, trucks, DAF, radar, all sorts. So quite good at fixing those when they've been knocked over or accidentally dropped. So frequently, do not a bad job of getting them back together. But on another note, I really enjoy restoring Kenny Oak furniture. One thing that I did was an ottoman, many years ago, not enough. But it was one of these ottomans that would store, you know, bed sheets and that could be at the end of the bed. And it was very old, and it seemed better days, but I actually managed to sand it all down, repainted it all, then put a nice kind of fabric, soft cushion on top, and managed to turn that into a sort of storage box come window seat. So that was one of my things that I was quite pleased about in the past. But recently, not so much time really to do a lot of repairing and restoring. I was going to put it in front of my son's PC. He said that I had to play one of his games, and I couldn't get it fixed, so I basically had to do a complete refresh of his laptop. I think he's overloaded it with too many DLCs. So we're going to go back to the start again. So yeah, I'm repairing that. Hopefully I'll do a good job. MM0RK in. Back to you there, Gray in the net. MM0RK in. This is KC2PKG. That's what I used to do for a living. Put people's workstations back together. After they just put something dumb on it, or they had a problem of some kind or another, reallocating memory, and all of that stuff. I'm glad I don't do that anymore. I really am. Alright. Bill, N9OFU, what have you repaired or restored? Do you think you did a pretty good job on it? Over to you, Bill. N9OFU. This is KC2PKG. Alright, I've been trying to think, trying to think, trying to think. And most of the things I'm coming up with is just, you know, things I've put together, you know, like furniture, you know. I love Ikea. Some of that's been pretty intricate when you get into some of these. I'm trying to think. Like the, well the cabinets, I don't know if the cabinets, but the drawers and stuff. Getting all that lined up properly and put together when it's got, you know, two or three different sections, an open section. I'm trying to remember, I know I've done my repairs or in battle. It always seems like something needs to be fixed, put together, or repaired at the house. But nothing really stands out that I really floated over. It's just, you know, it needs to be fixed to fix it. And that's all I can think of at this time. Sorry, I'm just not coming up with anything. Alright, N9OSU. Not to worry about it. KC2, PKG. Bringing that Ikea stuff together, I found one of the neatest tricks was to take the Allen wrench that they give you and saw it off, saw the curved part off, the bend in it off, and then put it in a drill or a driver. And then things go much faster. I'm turning that little Allen wrench. Alright, KM4QBC. You do a lot of repair and restoration, Jeff. Council, what's one project, or two if you want, that you're particularly proud of, that you really think you did a great job? It's over to you. KM4QBC. This is KC2, PKG. KC2, PKG, KM4QBC. Well, great. One thing that came to mind, my wife and I both worked on this, like Josh was talking. My grandpa's old house was a really neat place for me to hang out. I had a CB radio in there. That's before I got into ham radio. Anyway, long story short, the old house was just a plank-mored house, you know, back in the mountains. And a big tree fell right through the middle of it, so we salvaged what we could out of it. And I got all the windows and doors. And my wife and I, I still got a bunch of windows that are the way of the house when I first got them, but we sanded these window panes down into the old six panes. They got six panes in them, and you know, the glazing and all that. So we redid those and repainted them, and we put pictures of our family in there and hung them on the wall. So we're really proud of those, and it's really a special thing. Plus our Volkswagens. My son and I are working on an old bug now, so pretty proud of that one. That's you, Gray. That's a couple. This is repeater station Kilo Kilo 7 November-November. I thought you were led with the Volkswagens. Is that the one you're working on now? Is it the black bug? Back to you just for a second here. KN4QBC. The black one was actually done by somebody else, but you know, a Volkswagen's clear there's always something in there to work on. So, excuse me, we have done a little work on the motor, done a little work on the interior. Used to touch it up to make it a little better than it was, you know. So the next thing I'm going to do is just a little more work on the motor. I'm thinking I'm going to put a new carburetor on there and probably a new Kilo. So, just to make it a little sharper, because I'm going to start driving it to work this time of year, when hopefully it starts to cool down. And next month or so, after August anyway, I'll be driving it to work in the day and in the night. Can't drive that thing in the summertime, it's just so hot. You can drive it in the evening some, but it's just so hot here in the summer. It's hard to drive in that time of year, but it's fun at certain times, but when it gets up at about night and you're in that thing, you're like being in a sauna, I guess. You can't wear the work clothes down the road and be all sweaty and going into work there. Anyway, back to you, KN4QBC. KN4QBC, Volkswagen repair guy. It's good. I think Volkswagens are really cool. And I could kick myself for when I finally ended up in a car that I didn't have a Volkswagen van. I mean, they're the coolest. They really are. And I think back on that time I was thinking, oh man, I went out of the hotel room. Wherever I went, you know, I didn't need to sleep inside, I could sleep in a car. Which is a fun thing when you're a kid to do. Maybe not so much now. Any of YQJ, Ralph, are you out there? We're asking people what is a project that they've worked on where they restored or repaired something and they're particularly proud of it. Ralph, hey, YQJ, over to you."},{"callsign_confidence":1.0,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-08-04T06:56:55+00:00","id":13998,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":13997,"text":" It is sound and prudent judgment based on a simple, I thought simple was important, a simple perception of the situation of facts. I sort of liked that. And then the other one I sort of liked was the common sense, this is from Wikipedia actually, is more or less universal, which a universal thought that is held more or less without reflection. So apparently it's something you don't have to, or not supposed to have to think about. It's just something that comes to you or that you have. So I don't know, is that pretty dry information? Well, that's the best I could come up with. KN6UYZ, this is my 73 round. I'm gonna go back to sleep. Thanks everybody. This is repeater station Kilo Kilo 7, November Quebec November. KN6UYZ, well have a great rest there buddy. And thank you for joining us, really appreciate it. All right, we move on down to Chuck, AA4HI. Chuck, define common sense for me and give me an example if you can. This is KC2PKG. I agree, AA4HI. I guess common sense is, to me, is not only understanding how to do, you have to be able to implement it, I guess is what I'm saying. You know, being extremely smart. But the smallest things, you know, not being able to understand. Because I really can't think of anything any better than what someone else has said. But I guess you always think about someone as really smart, but I don't know. It's very difficult for them to do simple tasks. And I don't even know if that's even a fair assessment, but you know, because all I've got is from years of someone saying someone doesn't have common sense. But I think a lot of people have common sense. You know, a lot of people, as we know, are not all geniuses, but they can work with their hands and figure problems out and have a lot of good reasoning skills, you know, with other people. I think that's important. I think that has a lot to do with common sense too. Instead of just being directly by the book, being able to talk to someone and explain to them what's going on. That's what I guess it is to me, Gray. Back on you, A4-John. A4-HI, this is KC2PKG. Yeah, it's something beyond being book smart. Chuck seems to be hinting. We used to have a lot of people who had taken every test, knowing the man in the computer business, and yet they had a lot of trouble applying that knowledge. And they did because they didn't sort of have a sense of how everything fits together. That's my example anyway. All right, Carrie, MM0RKN. Tell me what common sense is. And if you have any examples, I'd love to hear them. This is KC2PKG. MM0RKN, I think common sense is something that you kind of develop as you navigate the world. You get more and more of it as you mature, let's say, squat. And as you mature, you get better at it. And I think I worked on myself when I was younger. And my grandma, I visited her very frequently, but I remember the best day that I visited her, to tell her that I was going to university. I passed all my exams, I'd get really good marks. That was fine. And when I visited, I made her a coffee. And she went into the kitchen, and she said to me, this was her words, give me the clever, but you have no common sense. And the example here is, I've made the coffee, but I had left the milk sitting out in the counter. I hadn't put it back in the fridge. And of course, if the milk's left out in the counter, it's going to turn. So that's my example, but I think it comes with maturity. MM0RKN, back to neck control. MM0RKN, this is K2PKG, you're the second person to come. And you've heard you haven't got any common sense. And I often wonder what people mean when they say that. To me, it always sounds like you don't believe what I do. You don't have any common sense. And it's often used as an insult, which I think is, that's the interesting thing. But we've heard that from a couple different people. It is an insult when you say somebody doesn't have common sense. We'll find out. N9OFU Bill, what is common sense? And do you have any examples? Over to you. N9OFU, this is KC2PKG. Thank you, Greg. I've been refining my answer, my response. Because, I mean, just breaking down the word common, it's something that's common, something that everybody knows, kind of just takes for granted. Like if you take a loaded gun pointed at someone and pull the trigger, you're gonna shoot them. If you stick your hand in the fire, you're gonna get burned. If you snip the red wire instead of the blue wire, you're gonna blow up. No, just things that, because of shared experience, especially like here in the United States, I mean, it's not just a regional type thing, but there are some regional aspects to it. But it's things that everybody has in common as far as what they know, and then being able to implement it in your everyday life, like don't stick your hand in a fire, don't load a gun at somebody and pull the trigger. These things are just common sense things that you know if you do it, there's going to be an adverse result or effect or an effect that's going to be a result or a gun result or effect. But just based on what you want to achieve, doing the thing that you know is gonna get you to that point because there are some people out there that think if they do this or if they do that, nothing bad's gonna happen or something good's gonna happen and it doesn't because they don't have the common sense or the shared experience that other people have that would have known, no, that's not what you want to do if you want to achieve a certain goal. That's gonna achieve the opposite. So it's something that most people know or take for granted because of shared experience, shared experience, why everybody's seen this movie, everybody's heard of that story, so everybody knows that you don't want to do that and then someone comes along and does it because they didn't see that movie or they didn't hear that story and they thought that doing that would have a different effect even though everybody else knows that that was wrong. So it's a common experience, a common sense. Back to you. N9-OFU, this is KC2-PKG. One second. Had to clear my throat. Shared experience, shared knowledge, common knowledge that is common among groups of people. That's interesting. That's a very interesting thing to bring out. All right, Jeff, KM4-QVC. Tell me what common sense is and do you have an example? It's over to you, Jeff. This is KC2-PKG over to KM4-QVC. This is Repeater Station- KC2-PKG, KM4-QVC, well, great. All these answers have been really good. I don't have anything to add much. I like what Bill said and I like what Josh said. By the way, happy birthday, Josh. I just saw that on your wife, I think, did a Facebook post. So happy birthday from North Carolina. Anyway, on gray, I, you know, I told them I like what Bill said and what Josh said and what Chuck said to you, so I'll just leave it at that. But I do know this. I can tell you this, gray, I know people that have it and I know people that doesn't have it. I'm a pretty good judge on that side of it. KM4-QVC, back to you, bud. KM4-QVC, this is KC2-PKG. It's a very difficult question. I'm glad I'm asking it. And I'm finding out you're kind of educating me on what you're feeling about the phrase common sense. So I'm happy about that. Marie, KI7ODD, tell me what common sense is and can you cite an example? Over to you, Marie.
