How are you doing, Jack? I hope well. Space program, yeah. Like you, I grew up in it. From Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, all of the above. And then the huge amount of time that we haven't pursued space like we should have. And it could have been a lot farther than we are already. But there you go. Yesterday after talking to you on the net, did you ever have one of those days that one thing led to the other, to another, to another? And it wasn't a very successful day. I went to get on HF after the nine o'clock net. And my amplifier decided to have issues. A tube went. I had to do some troubleshooting. I repaired it. But while it was out, I had noticed that when I pulled the amp out, the base from my boom mic, it's a Heil HM1 or something like that. It was sticking way too low and was actually rubbing up against the amplifier. So the OCD side of me said, okay, I got to cut this down. So I took it, removed it, took it down to the shop. And realized that it was solid, one and a half inch aluminum. And the hacksaw was kind of cutting through most of it, but not quite. And had I had a bandsaw, it would have taken me like five seconds. But I don't have a bandsaw at home. I ended up breaking out my Dremel. And at that and about five or six little disks, I was able to cut through, reassemble everything. Amplifier is back online. That's good. The other thing that didn't work out that actually was the worst part of the day is we have this huge front door. We have two front doors, but the big door is 42 inches wide, solid core, huge. It has never had a storm door on it. And I had ordered one about, I want to say three months ago. And long tail of woes. The installer canceled out last month and set me up for yesterday. And they called me 10 minutes before installation. They had scheduled and said they couldn't do it because the door was too big. And they needed more hands on it. So he said he would be here today prior to noon. And they're not. Hi, hi. So that's how my days are going. But I'm still laughing about it. How's that? I'll turn it back over to you. You're going to need them most likely for the rest of your life. So that is great news. Alright. Well you know I just really quickly ran over to my closet because I knew I had some safety goggles. Brand new package of chemical splash and impact resistant safety goggles that go over my glasses. And I have sunglasses that go over my glasses. They're not clip on, they actually go over the glasses themselves. And I have tried the safety goggles and it goes over that. So I'm wearing three pairs of eyewear. But if I have anything that's flying around me and it can't be controlled, I tell you it won't hit my eye or eyes. So anyway. Alright, thank you so much Grossy. Let's go to Henry. Where have you been keeping yourself? Under two rocks? N7 JVJ. Hey Henry. KI7RMU N7 JVJ. Hello Jack in the PSRG group. I am back. I never really left. And yeah it was probably three or four rocks. It's just been, I briefly told you before my exit I had a lot of stuff going on. And wife, kids, grandkids, projects, you name it. Everything just kind of exploded. So ham radio took kind of a backseat. So I'm back. Wif's back at work. School teaching. And I'm playing radio again. Let's see the biggest news I have. Let's see I have a hex beam sitting in my driveway. I put that together over the weekend. Well actually last week through over the weekend. And it's a lot bigger than I had envisioned. I knew the specifications but to actually see it in the driveway it's like oh my god. And then the sudden realization of how the heck am I going to get this up on the roof. So yeah I'm at that stage. Multi stages of amateur radio. You know denial and all that. But this stage is like OMG. So I'm there looking into local maybe cherry picker type machinery to help me get it up. Either that or I'm going to hire like three strong bodies. My wife really doesn't want me to be on the roof and I understand that. But I'm not averse to actually doing it. The push comes to shove. And so I'm 67. My brother in law is 70 and he's willing to go up with me too. So maybe there will be two of us sitting at the bottom of the driveway. Hi hi. But other than that good to hear everybody again. And honestly I have not had my two meter radio on very much during the last several several months. I've been to the Tijuana Costco in Mexico and they have pulled pork sandwiches in the food court. I'm like, yes, I guess I will. They have a little apple fritter, I forget what it's called, the Mexican word for it, but it's an apple fritter type thing that's heated. You know, it's like an awesome McDonald's apple pie type thing that they make in their food. And if you go to Canada, you can get poutine, which I'm not a fan of, but you can also get chicken fingers in the food court in Canada, but you can't get it down here. So anyway, the things, yeah, yeah, the regional stuff. All right, thanks Michael. Have a good day. Henry, you're up next. Hello and good morning, N7 JBJ. Good morning Q in the group, this is N7 JBJ. Very interesting morning, started at about 0-2-30 in the morning. One of the station managers, at least this is a claim from my wife, decided to actuate the remote control for the TV and was sitting on it, so the volume went all the way up, lights came on and some commercial was on, I don't know, but woke us up and my wife's an early riser anyways, I think she would have been up within the next hour or so. Prepare for her day at work, but me, I am more of a like 6 o'clock in the morning riser. But woke up, we laughed about it, had coffee, and I've been tinkering around ever since. Contemplating a nap, and I'm not a nap person, I do not take naps, so I think that shows my lack of ability of being a genius because geniuses are supposed to nap a lot, I do not. Costco, Costco, very interesting, yeah, and regional differences of them. I've been to the one in Hawaii and they have a lot of different things, and I've been to the one in Japan. Japan is very, they have Kirkland items, but they also have regional items, dried shrimps and dried fish and yadda yadda. But one of the things, oh, and they have sampling of hard liquor. You know how Costco has their sampling tables, they'll have hard liquor sampling, and they'll have wine sampling and beer sampling. But the biggest thing I notice that's different from the Costco's here in the States is they are very polite. All the sampling stations, everyone is in a very polite line, one behind the other, and they take turns. Unlike here in the States where there's a gaggle and you can't even get your basket through because Bobby Ray wants to get some pork rinds. Anyways, so there's that. And what else is happening? Tons, tons, but that's all I'm going to share right now. Hi, hi. And I'll turn it back over to you. This is N7 JVJ wishing everyone a good morning.
There we go, a fine list of three. I'm just gonna run it like I got it. So call sign, I haven't heard before, but I just wanna say hello. Welcome, good morning, N7 JVJ. Good morning, Ron. This is N7 JVJ, Henry in Silverdale, Washington. Sitting here nestled up against the Hood Canal, making it close to Bangor, Washington. Yeah, so I got a question. It's probably better for the new net where there's a lot more participants, but I'm trying to find a nice lighted keyboard for the hand shack. I don't like turning out all the lights on while I'm operating, and between the monitors and radios, they cast quite enough light, but the keyboard is kinda shadowed, and I'm a two-fingered piper for the most part. I just purchased a really cool-looking keyboard that I thought would do the trick. It looks like a typewriter, the old manual, and it even clicks like them, but where they could have really shined, hi, hi, no pun intended, they didn't. Although the keys beneath are very brightly lit LEDs, the letters themselves are kind of less than on top, and they only use one third of the key itself to light up the letter. The letter size is only about one third of the key size, so what a waste, and with that little upgrade, there are no box stores you could really go shopping for keyboards anymore, not like you used to. So I was wondering if anybody had some personal experience and knows of a good one. That being said, I'll turn it back to my controls. I copied all your copy. Henry, come back with your call sign and report please. N7JDJ just buried you now. Henry in Silverdale, Washington. Yes, I checked in this morning for a little bit of therapy. I just needed to come down a little bit. So I got a new Timmy toy at Ham Fest from Cammie and Robert. I love it. It's a Tynicy 7600. I'm going through all the settings and trying to get everything adjusted just right. And the one thing I didn't do was hook it up to my linear. And I got the cable for that. I could have built one I suppose, but in my old age I've become more of an appliance operator. So I sent away for one. It came in last night. But of course the Mariners and the Seahawks are playing. And that is a true juxtaposition of feelings between the two games. But then I woke up very early this morning and I started playing in the Ham Shack. And I was like, hey, let's hook up the other one, other radio. So I broke out a two position switch to go between the two radios to feed the linear, to feed the tuner out to the antenna. And I rerouted all the cables and reconnected everything. And I had it dead short and I couldn't figure it out. I brought out my antenna analyzer to see if the path was good, everything was good. But what I did do, didn't do was use my – I had the drawing of my cabling behind all the magic. And I thought I could do it from root memory. And I'm here to say, no I cannot. So it took about rearranging the shack and crawling behind there. And isn't it amazing no matter how much lower the cabling is, you see what that one port is that you're plugging into. So I had to break out a mirror and flashlights and yeah, well, there you go. But I had everything set to a point. I did radio checks on my nets on HF on both radios. And both radios both feed the amplifier down. So life is good. And my station managers are probably telling me they want to go take a walk. So thank you for listening to me. Thank you for listening to me. Oh no, it was a deer in the backyard. Okay. So back over to you Tim. Thank you for what you do. Boy, they use that term a lot lately, don't they? So that and some winds, still watching my antennas. I got a fresh one up there that it's big, so I'm kind of worried about it. Like a mother hen. Happy Halloween to everyone. I was following up since every most of the grand kiddos already did their trick or treating. It sounds like the families are all coming over to our house tonight. And that was unbeknownst to me until just a couple days ago. And also unbeknownst to me is I'm head chef. So I was designated to make up my world class chili, which was a request from everybody. And going to make some boxed cornbread. And it sounds like the perfect day for it, too. So our Halloween will be indoors and in our kitchen and living room and kiddos running around making a mess. And that's just the way I want it. So with that, yeah, 7.3 to everybody. This will be my one and only. So you take care, Ron. Thank you for hosting the net. You do a great job. Great MC. Great host. This is November 7 JVJ. Forgot I'm on VHF. Anyways, doing fine, having a great weekend. Did a chili feed on Friday night on Halloween and had the whole family over. And more people showed up than they expected, but that was even better. I had a lot of kiddos and my chili was a hit. What little was left went home in Tupperware, which is even better. And what else? Oh, during that party, or get together, I was talking to my brother-in-law who is a licensed electrician. And although I could probably do it, he offered to run 220 into my hand shack. And I'm going to take him up on that and see if I can graduate to a real amplifier here. I'm operating an A11H right now, an Ameritron. And yeah, so that was the only thing holding me back from going to a big boy. And so I'm thinking a hand fest, I'll be looking for one. Other than that, still nursing. I'm one of the most dreaded diseases known to man, the man cold. And my wife had similar, but she went to work today. But she was doing a lot better than me. She caught her earlier than I did. Yeah, nothing horrible, just tired achy and more lethargic than normal. But with that, I'll turn it back over to you. This is N7, JVJ. Good morning, everyone. Well, thank you much, Henry, and I'm glad you had a great weekend. That chili feed sounded pretty good. And sorry you got a cold. Hopefully you can get rid of that man cold here before too long. And 220 to the shack so you can move up to a big boy amp. So yeah, I appreciate your check in, and thank you for stopping by and have a great day. That brings me to the end of my list again. I had a great time and more importantly my wife Lori did. On the way home we were met too. I took out the power lines and I got to try out my generator. my generator on the house, and by the time I tested it, and it passed with flying colors. I was able, it runs the whole house with the furnace and the hot water heater. It doesn't care. It just gets a little louder. So there's that. I woke up to dusting on the Olympics, temperature was about 47 degrees, but get ready tomorrow it's supposed to be down to 35, and that will put frost on your pumpkins. Yes, Anderson's, I do remember that because I used to go down to San Diego on a regular basis for work, and oftentimes I would drive down, and that's the place with the windmill and the split pea soup, and I've had it many times that that was a go-to spot, one of the places that we would stop on the way down, and yeah that and the sourdough bowl, yum, very good. Let's see, I want to wish everyone a happy Columbus day, happy Indigenous People day, First Nation day, and basically a respite for some of the people that are still working. I am retired and those days are behind me, but I remember how much I loved my day off even if it was just to do nothing and watch the Mariners later today. I went to the Kitsap County hand test this weekend, ended up with a new toy, and as a result totally tore apart my station again, rearranged everything, and I think the next mod I do for my HF station, Ham Shack, is I need to make the back of the radios more accessible because that is the biggest pain, trying to follow up leads, and you end up inadvertently causing a knot in something and trying to chase down the knot, and I had a couple things fall on my head as well, which is little trinkets. I got my starships and stuff sitting around on top, memorabilia from the 70s and stuff, and yeah, but I'm finally organized and yeah, it's looking like a proper station again. I just want to wish everyone a great day. 7-3, stay warm, and back to neck control. This is N7 JVJ.
I had my second flight on Wednesday morning and we worked on stalls. We did a little bit of slow flight and did a little bit of stalls. I did, I worked all the comms mostly and approached the airport myself. I don't mind saying that I didn't get to land because my approach was a little wonky. It was a little off to one side or whatever and as we were approaching he said my controls, I said your controls. Gotta pull that out. We ended up doing a go around too. I guess that's how far off I was but hey it was my first approach. What do you expect? There's no expectations really on a first approach I don't think. I think I could do better. That would be tomorrow. Tomorrow is supposed to be the next flight. Weather is maybe not going to cooperate. We'll see. We'll see. Anyway so that's the update from that. Let's see Bill. There we go. Bottom of the list. Oh there we go. See I thought 10 minutes ago I thought I was going to knock this thing off. We're going to tie a bow on it and I guess not. So there must be people listening. That would be you. I'm Ron and R7O. If you would like to join the Nine O'Clock Net I need your name and call.
Cool. Sipping coffee and doing the net. That's a picture right there. I believe Jack should make a – he's digging the AI picture. He should make a – Jack, listen. He should make an AI picture of sipping coffee and doing the net. That's what we do. Alright, across the pond we go. Bill's waiting over in Kingston. Casey, 5 WFH. Good morning. Hey, good morning. Right back at you there, Ron. Yeah, how about coffee cup in the left hand and the mic in the right hand? Yeah, second cup is coming my way too. Good to hear you out there, Ron. Glad we're extending the net there. Before I go – oh, let me see. I want to give you some weather. We're sitting on 50, 50 degrees with soggy steps over here. And got a log in the box in there. Warming the house up real nice. Before we part here, Ron, how about a little flight school info, if you would, please? Good morning. Thanks for what you do. Casey, 5 WFH."}]}
