Hi, hi. But what we hear of the body this morning, I hope everybody's doing well. My first check in for a few days. I've been absent due to holiday. I was on holiday last week. This week I'm just trying to get back into work and juggle my childcare as well. So yeah, it's great fun. We've got two, well less than two weeks now of the school holidays left. So our schools go back on the 14th of August and I'm starting to count the days in our life. It's been hard work but we're getting there. But Nora, I see that coming. She keeps actually being good fun. I would change it up all there. But as I say, thank you for letting me check in again. They'll really appreciate it and I'll hand it back to you. That's too bad. Um, okay, well, I'm just a meatloaf lover in the house, so we're gonna go to Josh. KJ5IRQ Josh. B-loaf. Do you like it? Do you make it? How do you make it? This is KC2PKG. This is Repeater Station Kilo 7, KJ. I would like to know who actually eats meatloaf. Kilo is nasty. I mean, it's filled with crap like meat. And binders. And spices. Oh, wait. Meat. I'm the people. I love meatloaf. I, uh, actually, I don't even care for the meatloaf when it's cooked. I'll eat it, mashed potatoes and all that. Cool, whatever. Man, it's the next day. I'm telling you, that's where it's at. Meatloaf sliced up, served on some bread. Where it's at. Especially if you have a little bit of, you know, gravy and a little bit of mashed cabbage. I do the same thing on Thanksgiving, though. The next day on Thanksgiving, I usually make me a Thanksgiving sandwich. And it's gonna have turkey and cranberry and stuffing. And, yeah, it's just one big nasty sandwich. Man, it's so... Meatloaf. Yes, we do have meatloaf here. And it's different to anyone who makes it. My last cooks are completely different than how I do. I do two versions. One's a gourmet version and one's just an everyday version. The everyday version, I either get really good ground beef or I buy a chuck roaster and make it myself. There's a texture thing involved with meatloaf, I think. I also don't just use generic breadcrumbs on it. My life almost always has some sourdough bread around here somewhere. So we drive that out and we make the breadcrumbs out of that. But what I do in mine, I think a lot of people do, maybe not on this match. At least here, in my neck of the woods. We're moving our meatloaf together. We've got our meat in our binders and spices. Bell peppers and onions. It's already been softened. Sometimes I grill them and then I'll saut\u00e9 them a little bit. Get that char built into it. Lay all those profiles. And, yeah, we'll get that whole sucker mixed together. And then what I do is I'll hollow out the center and put some cheese in there. And I'll cover it up with some more meat, you see. So basically I made a meatloaf pocket for cheese. But it doesn't end with that. No, no sir. I like to go one step further. And I'll throw that sucker on my smoker. If you've never had smoked meatloaf. Now, I'm not saying liquid smoke. I've used that in the past and it works to the pitch. But it's a poor substitution for a good smoked meatloaf. Unfortunately, this day and age, eating smoked really kind of hurts my digestive track. But that's one of those things that I'll have. Gosh, I'll probably don't make meatloaf like that twice a year maybe. It's a lot of work. But, man, I'll tell you what. It is the best meatloaf. And I also kind of like Dell. I don't use ketchup. We make a barbecue sauce and it's a simple barbecue sauce. We make it for chicken, for everything basically. And we use that. So, yeah, there you go. KJ5, IOKU, back to the neck control. I'm not a big fan of smoked things, but that sounds really good. KJ5, IRQ, this is KC2, PTG. All right. We will move on to KN6, UYZ. Do you like meatloaf, John? And do you make meatloaf? Or what is your favorite meatloaf? What about you? Uh, lost your name. Okay. KN6, UYZ. This is KC2, PKG. Uh, good morning again, KN6, UYZ. Yeah, I like meatloaf a lot. Although I've never made it in 77 years. Uh, because I don't really know how. I don't really know much about spices and things like that. Uh, I guess my favorite way of having it would be the way my mother used to make it. However that was. So, I guess I like meatloaf. Uh, but, uh, what, barbecue sauce on the top? Yeah, I'm sure that would be tasty, and I would be happy to eat that. Especially with some mashed potatoes. But, uh, the way I was used to it was with some kind of ketchup, uh, flavoring on the top. So that would be my preferred way to go. So I don't have anything that interesting, I just don't make it. Never have anything that interesting about it. I don't want to have any of that. Uh, I'll tell you what that is. I'm going to get a little bit of a good slice of meatloaf. Uh, I've got a little bit of a good slice of meatloaf. And, uh, I've got the chicken and the chicken. I just don't make it, never have, but if somebody wants to invite me over, I'll be happy to come and eat it for you. KN6UYZ, back to Nat. Beep. KN6UYZ. All right, we gotta take her. If you got extra meat, we'll invite John over. This is KC2PKG. Oh, and you got my mind to whirl. Josh, with the meatloaf sandwiches, they really are good. They really are good. That used to be my first wife's favorite thing in the world was meatloaf sandwiches. And you really have to work on the body of the loaf itself, so it can be sliced very, very thin. And that takes a little extra binding to make it work like that. All right, Chuck, AA4HI. Hey, loaf, do you like it? Do you make it? And if you do, how do you make it? This is KC2PKG. Beep. You know, Cory, I'm not a big fan of meatloaf. It's okay. But it's not my favorite food. Well, I mean, maybe my wife maybe makes it a couple times a year, and never in the summer. You know how it is here. I don't see anything like that in the summer. At least me, I don't. So I don't really go crazy when I hear it's being cooked. I'm like, okay. I don't think it's wonderful, so to speak. But anyway, that's the way it goes. What do y'all like, what was it like? So I'm great, I don't like it. With some ketchup on top, onions, and whatever else is in it. But I don't know, I really am not like cheese. I can't wait to eat it. So I probably went on to the first one who says I really just don't like meatloaf. Anyway, back with you, AA4HI. Beep. Ah, we got one. AA4HI, this is KC2PKG. I was waiting for somebody to say I really don't like meatloaf. So you won the prize, gold star for you. All right, Terry, MM0RKN. Meatloaf, do you make it, do you like it? Is it different in Scotland somehow? We'd love to know all your thoughts about meatloaf. So this is KC2PKG, over to you, MM0RKN. Beep. Beep. We'd use lean scotch beef mince, three rashers of bacon, finely chopped, an onion, finely chopped, carrots, tomato, and some herbs would be put in there as well. Maybe like chives or parsley or something. And you'd have three tablespoons of fresh bread. And it would be put into a baking tin. Just cook, you can slice it into nice slices. It's perfect for sandwiches as well. So yeah, that's how the traditional Scottish meatloaf is there today. MM0RKN, back to net control. Beep. MM0RKN, this is KC2PKG. That sounds good. That sounds like a recipe that would work. You know, there's two basic philosophies I've noticed for meatloaf. You can have meatloaf with gravy and potatoes, or you can have meatloaf with ketchup. And I've never seen the two put together, but the philosophy up here in Maine, where we go, the meatloaf has gravy on it, tons of it, and lots of potatoes. So meat and potato cake. But when I was growing up, it was sliced much finer. It had ketchup on it, there's the eight, it had ketchup. November, Quebec, November. All-star notes, please use. And so just a totally different thing. Some people put them in a loaf sheet, and some people put them on a baking sheet, a rimmed baking sheet, and they just leave it open, a mound. That's how my son does it. And either one works, either one works. Okay, Bill, N9OFU. Meatloaf, we're talking meatloaf here. Do you like it? Do you make it? And if so, how? This is KC2PKG. All right, well, no, I don't make it. And my wife doesn't make it. So if I eat it, the only chance I get to eat it is if I find it out in the wild. I use a bow and arrow, shoot it, take it down. You know? No, but there's Chuck's Up, Flying J, and Pilot. They all have meatloaf. And every now and then, I'll grab one of their slices of meatloaf, you know, get it with potatoes and vegetables. And it comes with a red paste on it, either ketchup or something. Similar, maybe I have tomato paste, but I think it's probably more ketchup. I think my mom used to make it when I was a kid, because I seem to recall having it when I was a kid. But other than that, it's just being able to grab it. Sometimes when I'm out on the road and I get a hankering for it, I remember, every now and then I might find a buffet that has some meatloaf as one of the items on there. So I usually grab some of that too. But that's what I know about meatloaf. I don't eat it. It's not something I go out of my way for that I have to have, but I don't mind it. It's a fine meat-like substance that I do enjoy eating from time to time. All right, back to you. Oops, sorry, sorry. Also, the other last question. I remember my mom had gotten a screen door, a wooden screen door from someone who moved and it didn't fit her door. So it was my chore to take that thing and make it fit. So I had to do some trimming here and there, then add some stuff on the bottom to keep the bugs out. I totally forgot about that. So I was proud that I was able to get that put together and up for her and her mobile home there in Casa Grande. Back to you. N90FU, this is KC2, PKG. It's interesting, because I just finished retrimming a screen door to fit in a very, very old porch where everything is warped. So we used a spring and a wire to pull it tightly closed. Come on, because screen doors aren't much fun if they've got big cracks around them. All right, KM4QVC Jeff Meatloaf, we're talking Meatloaf. Do you like it? Do you have it often? Do you not make it? And if you do, then how do you make it? This is KC2, PKG. KC2, PKG, KM4QVC. Josh was talking about she just bakes it to that right, I don't know, it's kinda crispy around the edges a little bit, and then ketchup on top. So I think she puts that on there because she gets it out. Anyway, I love it, I love it. And later that same day, we used that for supper. I'll make the sandwich with a little mayo, white bread, and just a touch more ketchup. So yeah, man, I'm all about it for KM4QVC. All right, another big vote for Meatloaf. This is KC2, PKG, thank you very much, KM4QVC. And we'll try Ralph again, see if he's out there. Hey, YQJ, do you like Meatloaf, Ralph? And do you make it? We'd love to know how you make it. This is KC2, PKG."},{"callsign_confidence":0.94,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-08-04T07:14:45+00:00","id":14005,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":14004,"text":" And that's really about it. It's gonna make you hard to want to do anything this afternoon, so the chicken coop's probably out till tomorrow. I did start the chicken coop this morning, like I said, I was gonna work on it throughout the night. Uh, no, I started, I've been working on it, but I've worked some more on it. However, I got it, I got all the tools uncovered, uh, you know, I keep a top of them out there, so it's, it's just about the four weeks or so. Um, anyhow, I got everything uncovered, made a couple of cuts, got a couple of studs put in, and it started to rain. And it's been really raining pretty much, also not in ever since. So that's, that's nice. Uh, the rain this time of the year, at any time of the day, uh, is really a blessing. Uh, so, uh, yeah, gotta stay inside hot and humid is not my friend. Uh, great nap today. Great, I thought the questions were on point. Uh, food, I like food, so we can talk about food at any time. Uh, with that, I do hope you all have a great Monday. Uh, and if it's a hard Monday, just remember, it will come to an end, and tomorrow we'll, uh, bring a new day. With that, KJ5-IOQ sends it back to neck control. 70 degrees. How about you, KZ? You graded my last get through. Yeah, um, wait a second, KJ5-IOQ, this is KC2PKG, uh, thanks for joining us this morning, Josh, we hope to hear you more throughout the week. Uh, Del, yes, most of yours got in and just cut out at the very end. Wished it's all 73s and then it went silent. Um, do you want, do you have other things to say? Take your chance right now. Uh, no, that's probably it, man, just wish Josh a happy birthday there toward the end, and, uh, told everyone to stick around for the worldwide friendship net. As long as you got all of that stuff, my transmission pretty much got through. Uh, VL1-UKZ, have a great day. Alright, VL1-UKZ, this is KC2PKG talking to you again tomorrow. Um, Ron, AA4-HO, it's the 73 round, do you have any final thoughts for us? Over to you, Ron, AA4-HO, this is KC2PKG. Yeah, I agree that, uh, what I've repaired or restored, that was, uh, an interesting question, because that's basically, uh, one of the strengths I have and what I like to do. And I, I have some stuff here, I gotta put a little tiny, uh, RC motor in to get that working again. But it doesn't do what, uh, the others to buy a brand new one do. It does, uh, cause I looked, even though I only pay for it with the price of this motor going in. But it's kind of a laser light and it shoots a star burst out of five little stars and then it comes back to the star and then it re- does the cycle. Uh, but none of the other newer ones do that. They'll just, uh, flicker a little. So, uh, maybe it's worth, you know, spending the extra money. I already had it apart and I know, uh, I could have it, uh, working the way it did when it was due. So I'm looking at that, uh, on, uh, uh, like real soon. I might order the parts today. It'll come, it'll be here in a couple of days. And I do like the wealth and I enjoyed sharing all of the, uh, different ways that I make it. Uh, explaining what common sense means. That, you're right, it could be used as an insult grade. So I tried to be a little careful there. Uh, though, uh, people, you know, tend to get, uh, you know, real sensitive. But I think I bled out that, um, in order to have common sense, you know, you really do need to know the material. Uh, that, uh, you're gonna make a decision with if you're gonna, uh, make the right choice or the right decision when you're doing something. And it's not good always to just rely on common sense. And, uh, we had fun with that game too today. So, uh, all around it was a great next up with a lot of different activities. I look forward to seeing everybody tomorrow. Great. You have a nice day. This is Ron AA-4-HO near Muff, Florida back to you, net control. Ron, you have a great day too. This is KC-2-PKG and that was AA-4-HO. And now we're gonna go to Chuck, AA-4-HI. Like share, explanation or lie on common sense. That was good. Um, any final thoughts? 73 round Chuck, take it away. Hey, Clay. Enjoy it. And, um, yeah. That's true. I guess, uh, sometimes people use that remark to tear down other people instead of working on themselves, you know. Uh, if we do something all the time, we're good at that thing, aren't we? But, uh, some people really are good at almost everything they do. They can figure things out. And, uh, those are amazing people. Well, you enjoyed the net. Nice to be in here again. And, um, hope you have a great day, everybody else. And, um, enjoy the cold weather while it lasts down here. And it loves humidity. Uh, 73 AA-4-HI. AA-4-HI. We're gonna have a nice, uh, a nicer, cooler, drier, uh, week this week. We've had quite a while. So, I'm looking forward to that as we get started here. Gary, MM-0-RKN. Um, I also like your, your, uh, mom's comment about common sense in the milk in the refrigerator. That was interesting. Uh, it's a 73 round. Do you have any final thoughts for us, Gary? MM-0-RKN. Yeah, Gary, it was my grandmother. In said, what, she's no longer with us? But, um, two of your questions, the Meatworlf one and the Coronavirus M1. Made me think back to those days when I used to have her every day just after school and, uh, they were happy to. But, um, she was just from the hip. I should tell you how it was, you know there was no, you know, coating it in ice or anything like that. She used to tell it as it was, so there we go. And yeah, I really enjoyed the net today as well. They're great, it's been great and blessing everybody's answers too. And I look forward to hearing again next week in exchange, even though politics questions. Anyway, have a good day everyone, 73 and hopefully catch you all again tomorrow. M-M-0-R-K-N, Black Connect Control, oh and happy birthday Josh! ...perceptions of foods and kinds of food and I think that is very central to being human I believe. OK, we'll put on the breaks there, that's, what do I got, seven actually beat, because Missy wanted to be put on the end of the list, so she very well may put the rips on it. So I've got Gail, Glenn, Roy, Terry, Phil, Honorary Check, Mel, Honorary Check, and Carrie, and Missy. So let's go to the top and see if Gail is there. Kilo ECT from KK7's in the net. I am here and thank you so much for putting me on this, I do appreciate that. Well, it's good to be 89 today, it might rain, we'll have to kind of wait and see. I never, I always had jobs that, my W-2's were actual jobs, not when I was a young person kind of jobs. I've done counseling for blind people, and most of my job was being a vending operator, and the telephone operation for a while, the telephone operation I guess was the weirdest one, because with one of these companies that they did collect calls for prisoners, and man I tell you, those guys gave extensive phone calls. Anyway, I'll have a wonderful day, and we'll probably see you guys all tomorrow. I don't know what your business call on the list, I mean the net, Missy or me, but I'll be there to help one way or the other, K-0 ECT. Thank you there, Gail, glad we got you in there. Yeah, you were making me think, remember, there was a time that you could hit the zero on the phone and get an operator, I don't think that happens anymore. If you had to make any kind of calls and collect calls, yeah, I remember calling cards and all that, there's so many flashbacks with the telephone, so. Anyway, thank you Gail, say hi to Hank for us, and let's go to Gwen, I'm glad you got in there Gwen, K-6 TKR from TK-7's unit. Good morning Joe, and thank you very much, and good morning to everybody else on the net. I think I finally made it back to life, still a little bit nasal, but I feel 100%. I just thought I'd throw a couple of fun things in before I get to the real job, but one of the first as a kid was through BoysLife, I got involved in burpee seeds, I don't know if you remember burpee seeds. I would run around town and try to sell these seeds, and it was mostly people felt sorry for me, so they would buy a few bags of seeds there. Then painted house numbers on curbs, and mowed lawns, so those things were fun. Out of one or two things, which was the first legit job in high school, furniture appliance company, drive truck, bed sets, so we drove it to the house and actually unloaded and installed those parts. The most interesting one is that I was a stock boy at a liquor store there in Ridgecrest, which was a very small town at that time in the middle of the Mojave Desert. The liquor store was owned by a relative of Ray Manzara, who was part of The Doors. It was interesting because every once in a while he would come into the store for whatever reason, I don't know, but The Doors were very popular at that time and that was certainly a lot of fun to experience. And then sort of a side job is I was rhythm guitar player for a band called The Reason Why, and so we played all the county fairs and stuff like that. And actually it was fairly lucrative, I was enough money to actually buy my first car. So anyway, that's all I have for you this morning. This is K6-K-R, back to net. K6-K-R, K7, November, Quebec, November, All Star, Node 6222, located in Shelton, Washington. Well yeah, I sure do remember the Burpee Heats. Yeah, I remember those very well, of course, being on the farm. You know the funny thing about living on the farm is I could kill a plastic plant today. I was just a kid then, I didn't do all the stuff, but I had never been able to grow stuff. And yeah, I certainly mowed lawns and plowed driveways in the snow in the winter. But yeah, working in the stockroom in a liquor store, I might have a problem there because I like my fine wine. So yeah, who knows there. Being in a band would be cool. If I ever had a dream thing, I think I'd love to be in a band. Probably on today's world I think you can make a whole lot, but back in the day I think that would have been really cool and a whole lot of fun. So there you go. Yeah, Rayman's there, yeah. A lot of people forget about The Doors, everybody knows Jim Morrison, but that's one of the bands that a lot of people don't know the rest of the band. So I do know that name. Thank you Glenn, glad we got you in there. And let's go to Roy. This is kind of a rare treat. I know Roy keeps a busy schedule. So K7PPL from KK7. Good morning Roy. Well good morning Joe, I hope I'm doing okay. Because I set my levels and it didn't seem to be the same. So hopefully I got it right this time. Anyway, my first job, yeah I worked at a plant in rural Nebraska that made powdering products. And the other side of the plant they had eggs came in from local farmers all around. And they had machines that separated the oats from the whites and came over to my side of the plant. And we had these big dryers, it was like a big metal box with sprayers on the wall. And it was 147 degrees, if I remember correctly in there. And by the time the spray hit the floor it was dry. And then these augers and so forth got out of the big box. And then it wound up after a series of augers and all sorts of metal things and whatnot. The part where I was, where this big shaker thing would shake all the lumps out of it. All day long man, it was all man. Anyway, my job was to make sure that there was within 4 ounces of the correct weight whether it was a giant 150 pound drum or a tiny 6 pound bag. And those little, I couldn't keep up with the 6 pound bags every so often. But every 10 minutes it would happen to me. That was horrible. That only happens a few times otherwise I think I would have quit. Anyway, I used to wonder a year when I'd open that thing up and this big cloudy yellow dust would come up and get yellow, orange disease. Anyway, back to you. KI-7, PK up. That's funny, that's good. Well you know at least the powdered eggs were actually eggs. Somehow I think if you went to look on a box of powdered eggs today it probably wouldn't have any egg in the ingredients. I'm glad we got you in there and had yourself a great day. Your audio sounds fine, you sound good. Yeah, that 3039 is it on there today? Yeah it's on there, I haven't heard anything from it. We've got a lot of interference popping in the last... ...all my groups of a lot. Is there anything coming through it today? So, I'm glad we got you in there. We've got a lot of interference popping in the last... ...all my groups of a lot. Is there anything coming through it today? So, yeah, I don't know what's up with that. Was it a great day there? Let's go to Mr. Terry 87MR from KI-7's unit."},{"callsign_confidence":1.0,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-08-04T05:07:27+00:00","id":13976,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":13975,"text":" W0GL, I'm sorry, so it's up to you. Okay, I have a comment about eating rice. I thought this is how it was done, but I looked it up anyways just to make sure. But for eating rice, you put the bowl up to your mouth and you scoop or shovel the rice into your mouth depending on the stickiness. So that's how you eat rice with chopsticks. W0GL, victim out. Alright, W0GL, this is KC2PKG. Now we're going to go on the truck, AA4HI. Chuck, how was your weekend, ma'am? And you have plans for the week? Something going on? When is your son coming home? He should be arriving home pretty soon, shouldn't he? This is KC2PKG, over to you, AA4HI. Craig, he's home. Take him up to the water. He's home. Keep him up in Washington, DC. Anyway, it's something weird in the tour park when a dog comes out and tries to bite a rider, but the motorcycle will scare you all behind. No one wants to get chased by a dog when on a bicycle, especially when you're going down a road like 25 miles an hour. But anyway, he's home. He's glad to be home. He's finally getting not being so tired of jet lag and walking so much. He had a great time. And I'm glad to get to see a lot of the world. And I've been on HF working a lot of parks on the air, photo stations, CW, iPhone. And also, it cooled off great. We've had a few days of cool weather. I don't know whether or not it's going to get back, I think Thursday. But good time to work on the antennas. I get to get that Delta Loop up higher. You know, if I didn't feel like getting out there, the wind is so hot and gray. I mean, it's just a musical. For two months, it's been like that. So with the cooler air, it makes you want to get back outside and do something. Look at that drop. So anyway, I'm throwing the doobie out there and take that coaxial cable out of that 20-meter Delta Loop and bring it back to a cleaner balance outside. So I can get it up higher because I didn't have any more coaxial cable. And I can tell I need it to work anywhere other than 20 and 10. So that's kind of the fun about it. I've been enjoying HF a lot. I hope you've been enjoying your FTX1. I know a lot of people want those things. And there's a lot of hype around like is everything when it comes out. And you got some saying, no, no, no, I like the 705 better. It's lighter. But you can't beat something with two bands and two antenna ports. You know, I say two bands at once and two antenna ports. So I think it's pretty darn cool. And anyway, life goes back to work this month sometime. Because it's back to school month here, anyway, down south. So there's a lot going on here. I'm glad to work at my dad's house. You know, helping him out. All he does is cruise a lot more. You know, that's his thing now. He'll pay his price a couple times a week. You know, he's got sprinklers and hiss. What he likes doing. But everything's going pretty good down here. Coming back with your gray A4 chair. This is redo. A4, A9, this is Casey, 2, 3, 2, 3, 2, I am having a lot of fun. It's my next one. I use it every day. It's my second way into the net. And I can tell the hell. Because it's got so many indicators. It runs a waterfall display. It's called a waterfall going up display. It's in 3D. It has an oscilloscope display. And it has a fast pore-ne-er transform. Fast pore-ne-er transform. So I get to see everything about what you're saying. The entire audio spectrum is represented by that. It's cool. It's very cool. I love this screen though. Alright, Terry. MM0, R, A, N. Are you still going for an FTX1? Or are you waiting and biding your time? This is Casey 2, PKG. Terry, I wish you a weekend. Good. MM0, R, A, N. Return as well. Good morning, Gray. Good morning to everybody on the net. I'm going to hear everybody today. Firstly, the FTX1F. Funny you should mention that, Gray. I actually ordered one last night. I've decided to order the Optima. I spent several months watching videos, good and bad reviews. I just like doing it. I think it looks great. I like the versatility. Obviously, I go to the caravan quite frequently, my sister's caravan. I think it would be quite a good go-box radio as well as the C-3. I can see a lot of uses for me personally for using it. I just like the dual-band feature as well. The more videos I've watched, I think the more I talk to my health into it. One of the UK radio deals, a family has got stock direct from Yesu, Japan. It should be shipping. They're getting a load of them in shipping in the next week or so. I'm a little bit hoping that I manage to get one from that batch. If not, I'll just bide my time and wait out till it is available. There we go. That was my big purchase last night. My weekend was quite peaceful to go on a screen. My son and my husband, they were at a truck show on Saturday in Edinburgh. I did some of the stuff. I came home and just enjoyed some of the sunshine we had. Yesterday, I was actually attending coming on the East Nae and the worldwide friendship. I was locked in and I was sitting in my living room on the sofa. I know these off. I fell asleep for about two hours yesterday having an afternoon news there. I got up and I was just sitting there. I was just sitting there. I fell asleep for about two hours yesterday having an afternoon news there. Hang on, I'll take any hit. I must be getting to that age where I'm starting to need this afternoon nap. Hi, hi. My apologies. I've maybe not been on quite as regularly as I usually am. We're still in the school holiday period. I've been telling it out and about. I'm not talking as well, but it's been a bit of a juggle from time to time getting round everything. It still goes back to on the 14th of August. Normal service will resume, so that will be that. I was listening to Josh saying that he's on a healthy eating plan. I too have started on healthy eating. My eating was just getting a little bit out of control. I was getting a little too full and eating the bad stuff. I studied last week on my healthy eating and I've lost five pounds in weight. I'm quite pleased with that. It's working. I can do it if I set my mind to it. It taught me that the salmon actually will enjoy salmon as well. We're quite lucky in Scotland. We have lovely fresh water salmon here. We're quite renowned for our salmon actually. People actually come here to salmon fish. They eat salmon and think salmon's from here is lovely. They're a quite big fan of salmon there. Anyway, Mm0rkn, but they need control. Mm0rkn, this is KC2PTG. While you're waiting for your FTX10 rod, take a look at some of the accessories. I got one, which is kind of a taste for it. It's really a framework with handles on it and stuff like that. It makes it much easier to pick it up and move it around. It's just a big brick. I got that on it. It looks cool and it directs the sound a little bit better when it's got that on. It looks like it's in fall without getting hurt, which could happen. I'm happy with that. I'm still waiting for the Bluetooth chip and the GPS to come for mine. Those seem to be in short supply. Although I may have to go back and check and see if I actually did order those or did I just zone out in the middle of that. All right. Well, it's good to hear from you, Carrie. That's great, and you lost weight too. Unbelievable. Good for you. All right. Let's see if anybody else wants to get in on the Monday morning version of the cowabunga net and then we can get going. Come now with your call sign. This is KC2PKG. Join the conversation. We're dying to hear from you. Come now with your call sign. Remember, 9 Oscar Foxtrot, uniform in 9LFU. Uh, let's see, let's find that most efficient way to narrow this down, huh? KJ5, IRQ. If it's, uh, going to my countries would take a while. Golden continents would be quicker. Uh, there's only seven of them. And I think we can probably rule out and on it, huh? Or it might be a good one to pay for it, would you? Um, so that's gonna leave six contacts. So we can't really do it by a climate because it almost sort of gets hot and almost sort of gets cold. Yes, contacts are probably, that's probably the easiest way. Um, let's go with, uh, oil in Europe. Is it a place in Europe? No, it is not. It is not in Europe. That was the third question and we go to Ron, AA4HL, what is your question, Ron? Okay, uh, is it related to a country? It is definitely related to a country. To a country. Alright, so it's not in the US, it's not Asia, not Europe. And it is related to a country. Um, we've been around it all. KN6UYZ, what is your question? This is KC2PKG. Alright, well, KN6UYZ, how about South America? It is not in South America. Next one is AA4HI. AA4HI, what is your question? Chuck, what is your question? Is it in Oceania? Oh, New Zealand and Australia, that area. No, it is not in Oceania. I hardly ever hear anybody say that. Oceania, but you're right, it's not there. It is definitely not there. So, uh, Terry, MM0RKN, what is your question? What is your question? MM0RKN, is it a desert-like place? Yes, it definitely qualifies as a desert-like place. Alright, and then we go to Bill, N90FU. Oh, yeah, you got it on key. Alright, excuse me, so it's a desert-y, is it somewhere in the Middle East? Is it in the East? Is it in the East? Is it in the East? Desert-y, is it somewhere in the Middle East? Yes, it is, it is in the Middle East. Alright, we move on down to Jeff Cam for QBC. I don't know if you've played this game before, but we're playing 20 questions, we're trying to narrow down the place I'm looking for. And so far, it's not in the US, it's not in Asia, not Europe, it's related to a country. It's not South America, not Oceania, and it is in a desert-like place, and I'm gonna tell Bill that it is in the Middle East. So what's your question? Is it Saudi Arabia? No, it is not Saudi Arabia, although it is close by. Okay, so it's not Saudi Arabia. And A, Y, Q, J, Ralph, what is your question? This is KC2PKG. Oh, me? In the meantime, we're going to go to the KN4LBF. J, what have you repaired or restored that you think you did a pretty good job on? It's over to you, D. This is KC2PKG. This is KN4LBF. This is D. It was something very simple, but I am proud of it. When my parents died, they had this Asian 3D face made of porcelain. It's about two feet long and one feet wide. And I'm looking at it. And through the years, it's about 75 years old right now, it looked like it needed a little uplift. So the figure on top hat is a female, and it had a crown on top of her head. And I repainted the crown gold and just her sleeve gold. And the retouch was amazing. It just made an amazing improvement how it looked. And I'm just looking at it right now. And I'm pretty proud of it. Back to you, Gray. This is KN4LBF. KN4LBF. This is KC2PKG. Porcelain. Have you repaired or restored porcelain? That sounds very hard. It really does. And the fact that you painted it and you're proud of it, that's great. That is great news. Josh, PJ5IRQ, what's something that you either repaired or restored that you're particularly proud of the job you did? This is KC2PKG. Open to you, Josh. PJ5IRQ. KC2PKG. This is KJ5 on cue. Something I would have had that I'm particularly proud of, oh, gosh, I remodeled a house before. That was pretty cool. I'd say I remodeled houses around here. And the houses are houses, I should especially clarify that. I've repaired a lot of things. KitchenAid. My wife loves the KitchenAid mixer. And all year after we bought our, I think it was our second one, it went out like the first one. I was getting really frustrated with it. So I did some digging around. And it's the brushings. I don't know why I didn't think about that with the first one. I fell a fool because I threw the first one away for like $20. I got to replace the brushings and kept the first one. I replaced the KitchenAid with some good brushings. And gosh, it's been years. And it's still working just fine. She uses it all the time. That was personally a good fix. KitchenAid mixes, you know the cream and galakop, at least that's what I was really concerned. There ain't no point in paying more money than that for something that does the same thing. Let's see. I do have a project coming up. As soon as it starts cooling off into the fall, rather I want to be outside all day every day. We have an old family bench. Joseph E. Ford built this bench. Not that y'all would know him, but he happened to be one of the first people in the Middle of Wales to open the store. And she's got to give you an idea how old this bench is. I have an actual picture of him in this last sitting on it. It is 1888. It's over the rock. It was my grandparents, of course. It got passed down to me. And it's an old, bad shape. I mean, it is a bad shape. But we're going to look into repairing it. I want to keep it as original as possible with as much wood as possible. So I may end up using clear epoxy or something to fill in some voids. But the idea is to bring it back to a shade of a swirly void. I can't tell you how many seeds of the fence people in my family have sat in that bench over the years. I mean, if some of them could tell a story, wouldn't you love to sit and have that word pour out the stories since, at least in my family since the late 1880s? Man, talk about an explosion of lighting ideas. Anyhow, yeah, so that's coming up. That bench, I'm really excited about it. The only thing I don't know is who gets it after me. I've got two boys and a daughter. And it's always stayed with somebody with a last name before it. So I'm sure it will stay with my boys. And I sure it won. And so I'm going to see who ends up at the house in a safe place for it. And that's probably who will get it. Sorry, I had to reset for a second. I was running out of time. Anyhow, that's it. I'll send it back to you, KJ5. I'll help you back to KG2PKG. KJ5 IRQ, this is KG2PKG. A bench, a family bench. That sounds cool. That sounds cool. I'd love to see a picture of that. KI7ODD, I see you in the text box. You want to give it a shot now? Tell us how your weekend was. Maybe tell us about something you restored or repaired that you're particularly proud of. Over to you, KI7ODD. This is KG2PKG. This is better now. This is KI7ODD. KI2KC2PKG. I actually am thinking, let me think. Oh, yeah. I restored stuff before that. My squeaky here is my fan. It just squeaks, squeaks, squeaks. So don't worry about that. I should have read this text thing. Ah, never again. All right, I hope my audio's better. I'm sorry about earlier. It was my rig. I need a new one. I need a new rig. Gosh darn it. All right. What I did yesterday was I was thinking about beading, playing with my, getting my crafting done. I did some sewing last weekend, but this weekend I am going to go on and be at the Idaho State Convention for ham radio this year, which is going to be awesome. I hope I get the 7800 icon. I hope I get it. Just hopefully I can get it this time. I don't, I don't. I can't, I couldn't even sleep last night. Sorry about that interference earlier. All right, have a good day guys and gals. Okay, this is KI 7 ODD, Murray in Spokane, Washington. KI 7 ODD, I'm Murray. That's pretty good. That's pretty good. That, your audio sounded fine. That time it was perfect going through there. So I've got you on the list. We'll be hitting you again. And Steve, N0BF, I've got you on the list too. We're just going to keep working down the way we're doing it. DA 4 HO. Ron, is there something that you repaired that you are particularly proud of? So what do you do? A4 HO, this is KC 2. Yeah, you know, you might remember me talking about, you know, when I redid the bathroom and the shower, I put caulking and you're supposed to put silicone on it, and I put silicone on it. And I put silicone on it. And I put silicone on it. And I put silicone on it. And I put silicone on it. And I put silicone on it. And I'm supposed to put silicone. And then I, you know, when it started leaking underneath, I had to get all of that out and redo it and put silicone in there. But that's really nice. You know, I got granite top on the, you know, the sink, new sink and toilet, completely new shower. And it's really nice. I did the water heater and the copper pipe I had left over, I made myself a UHF antenna that I use with my All Star Network. Whenever I'm on my mobile rig or HT and I'm on All Star, the signal goes through the antenna before you hear me on here if I was to do that. And I got one of those nano-VNA's to make sure, you know, it was resonant at the right frequency. That I needed it at. All kinds of things. The vehicle I drive now is new. The one before that, even though this was an upgrade, it had all of the features because I put in a lot of aftermarket stuff. The GPS I added and a whole mess of things. The side rails to step into it. Of that I do, but I didn't have to do that with this last vehicle I just bought. You know, because it came with it all. But I did install and put the automatic garage door opener in. And that I'm pretty proud of. It works really good. Now I just drive up to the house and I don't even go out the front door anymore when I take the car. You know, it's in and out through the garage. The door opens, pull the car in, door goes down, come in through the garage now. If I think about it, there's a lot of stuff. Except for the stuff, you know, I don't have the tools for it. I have to pay somebody to do it. AA4HO, Ron Nirma, Florida, back to you, Gray and Nick. AA4HO, this is KC2PKG. And it is all the something with the house. You know, I lived in a house in Morristown for 30 years. And I can't tell you how many weekends I spent either under the car or working on the house or cleaning up that yard. It was just endless, endless. I'm so glad to be out of that. Because I don't like any of that stuff. As it turns out, it's kind of fun to create things. It's kind of fun to repair places. But when you're doing it in all your free time, I built a car there. An Aztec 7 from FiberFab, which goes on a Volkswagen chassis. And that would best two years of my life. I'm never going to get back. I went to sleep, because it's fiberglass, I went to sleep crunchy every night. It was just terrible. My wife hated it. Alright, KN6UYZ. What have you repaired or restored that you're particularly proud of? Okay, John, this is KC2PKG. Over to you. KN6UYZ, thanks so much for having me as usual. Yeah, you know, in 1970 I bought a Corvette. And, you know, come around 1974 or 5, the car needed a great job. And so I decided to take care of it myself. And jacked up each tire individually at the house. And decided I'd grab a screwdriver and place it between the calipers and the rotors and pry the brakes apart so I could insert a new pad on all four wheels. Well, that worked great. Good job. Padded myself on the back. I took off in that car and next thing I know, I know, the brakes were pushing all the way to the floor. I had to have that car towed back to the dealership and it cost me $1500 in 1975 to have that brake job done properly. Apparently you're supposed to relieve the pressure in the system, in the brake fluid system because I didn't do that before pulling everything apart and losing the, and I blew the seals and all the pistons. And this is a dual caliper system. And it was very expensive. I don't know what $1500 in today's money might be, but it was a problem. So with the exception of not being proud about my brake job, yeah, that's one of my better jobs. Back in that K and 6 UYZ. K and 6 UYZ. Boy, that brought back memories. This is KC2, PKG. I used to always do my own brakes and all of that stuff. And what it leads to is you're driving down the highway two states away from your house and you're thinking to yourself, did I put that spring back in? In the left rear tire? Did I put that spring in? Those were my thoughts after working on my car almost every single time. I was like, I don't remember. And of course, the first brake takes three hours. And the second one takes two hours. Third one, you know, takes about an hour and a half and the fourth one is over so fast you can't remember if you put the spring in or not. It just gets better and better as you go around. Alright, AA-4HI. Chuck, what have you restored or repaired that you are particularly proud of? It's over to you Chuck, AA-4HI. This is KC2, PKG. This is repeater station key low. We had some heads up and some chairs and last night I had to figure that out. And it took a long time. A lot of winter to get on the fingers. It's just about all done. And I want to do it again now. I can understand why people charge so much to do it. You know, time and of course it's just too easy to work. But, um, you have to wear your guns, you know. It just takes a while to do things. Yeah, it is. Anything you're rushing through sometimes it's just not going to be the way you expected it. So, um, anyway, same with the old antennas I like to try out, to build. I mean, you just have to think about it, give it a shot. If not, repurpose it. But, uh, the chairs I think are the best thing where you're wrong. So, what I've done in handling them, they took a long time. They done, throughout the summer just working on them. You know, when she was out. So, uh, anyway, that would be it. Back on to you, AA4-HI. AA4-HI, this is KC2-PKG, Wicker work. That's weaving, weaving with Wicker. That is a big job, especially if you've never done it before. Because you have to figure out what the pattern is. And then kind of trace it back. And a lot of those things, as I remember, the Wicker is fastened with a wooden peg. You know, it goes in, you put the Wicker in the hole and then you pound it in a little piece of wood to hold it there. Yours may work differently, but the ones that I worked on, that's what you had to do. And you had to get that peg out first. Um, it's not specialized, but it is trying. It's very trying, I think. MM0RKN, Gary, when you repaired or restored, you think you did a pretty good job on. It's KC2-PKG over to MM0RKN. MM0RKN returning. Well, Gary, very frequently, I have to repair and restore Lego figures that have broken various Lego models. Cabs, trucks, DAF, radar, all sorts. So quite good at fixing those when they've been knocked over or accidentally dropped. So frequently, do not a bad job of getting them back together. But on another note, I really enjoy restoring Kenny Oak furniture. One thing that I did was an ottoman, many years ago, not enough. But it was one of these ottomans that would store, you know, bed sheets and that could be at the end of the bed. And it was very old, and it seemed better days, but I actually managed to sand it all down, repainted it all, then put a nice kind of fabric, soft cushion on top, and managed to turn that into a sort of storage box come window seat. So that was one of my things that I was quite pleased about in the past. But recently, not so much time really to do a lot of repairing and restoring. I was going to put it in front of my son's PC. He said that I had to play one of his games, and I couldn't get it fixed, so I basically had to do a complete refresh of his laptop. I think he's overloaded it with too many DLCs. So we're going to go back to the start again. So yeah, I'm repairing that. Hopefully I'll do a good job. MM0RK in. Back to you there, Gray in the net. MM0RK in. This is KC2PKG. That's what I used to do for a living. Put people's workstations back together. After they just put something dumb on it, or they had a problem of some kind or another, reallocating memory, and all of that stuff. I'm glad I don't do that anymore. I really am. Alright. Bill, N9OFU, what have you repaired or restored? Do you think you did a pretty good job on it? Over to you, Bill. N9OFU. This is KC2PKG. Alright, I've been trying to think, trying to think, trying to think. And most of the things I'm coming up with is just, you know, things I've put together, you know, like furniture, you know. I love Ikea. Some of that's been pretty intricate when you get into some of these. I'm trying to think. Like the, well the cabinets, I don't know if the cabinets, but the drawers and stuff. Getting all that lined up properly and put together when it's got, you know, two or three different sections, an open section. I'm trying to remember, I know I've done my repairs or in battle. It always seems like something needs to be fixed, put together, or repaired at the house. But nothing really stands out that I really floated over. It's just, you know, it needs to be fixed to fix it. And that's all I can think of at this time. Sorry, I'm just not coming up with anything. Alright, N9OSU. Not to worry about it. KC2, PKG. Bringing that Ikea stuff together, I found one of the neatest tricks was to take the Allen wrench that they give you and saw it off, saw the curved part off, the bend in it off, and then put it in a drill or a driver. And then things go much faster. I'm turning that little Allen wrench. Alright, KM4QBC. You do a lot of repair and restoration, Jeff. Council, what's one project, or two if you want, that you're particularly proud of, that you really think you did a great job? It's over to you. KM4QBC. This is KC2, PKG. KC2, PKG, KM4QBC. Well, great. One thing that came to mind, my wife and I both worked on this, like Josh was talking. My grandpa's old house was a really neat place for me to hang out. I had a CB radio in there. That's before I got into ham radio. Anyway, long story short, the old house was just a plank-mored house, you know, back in the mountains. And a big tree fell right through the middle of it, so we salvaged what we could out of it. And I got all the windows and doors. And my wife and I, I still got a bunch of windows that are the way of the house when I first got them, but we sanded these window panes down into the old six panes. They got six panes in them, and you know, the glazing and all that. So we redid those and repainted them, and we put pictures of our family in there and hung them on the wall. So we're really proud of those, and it's really a special thing. Plus our Volkswagens. My son and I are working on an old bug now, so pretty proud of that one. That's you, Gray. That's a couple. This is repeater station Kilo Kilo 7 November-November. I thought you were led with the Volkswagens. Is that the one you're working on now? Is it the black bug? Back to you just for a second here. KN4QBC. The black one was actually done by somebody else, but you know, a Volkswagen's clear there's always something in there to work on. So, excuse me, we have done a little work on the motor, done a little work on the interior. Used to touch it up to make it a little better than it was, you know. So the next thing I'm going to do is just a little more work on the motor. I'm thinking I'm going to put a new carburetor on there and probably a new Kilo. So, just to make it a little sharper, because I'm going to start driving it to work this time of year, when hopefully it starts to cool down. And next month or so, after August anyway, I'll be driving it to work in the day and in the night. Can't drive that thing in the summertime, it's just so hot. You can drive it in the evening some, but it's just so hot here in the summer. It's hard to drive in that time of year, but it's fun at certain times, but when it gets up at about night and you're in that thing, you're like being in a sauna, I guess. You can't wear the work clothes down the road and be all sweaty and going into work there. Anyway, back to you, KN4QBC. KN4QBC, Volkswagen repair guy. It's good. I think Volkswagens are really cool. And I could kick myself for when I finally ended up in a car that I didn't have a Volkswagen van. I mean, they're the coolest. They really are. And I think back on that time I was thinking, oh man, I went out of the hotel room. Wherever I went, you know, I didn't need to sleep inside, I could sleep in a car. Which is a fun thing when you're a kid to do. Maybe not so much now. Any of YQJ, Ralph, are you out there? We're asking people what is a project that they've worked on where they restored or repaired something and they're particularly proud of it. Ralph, hey, YQJ, over to you."},{"callsign_confidence":1.0,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-08-04T06:56:55+00:00","id":13998,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":13997,"text":" It is sound and prudent judgment based on a simple, I thought simple was important, a simple perception of the situation of facts. I sort of liked that. And then the other one I sort of liked was the common sense, this is from Wikipedia actually, is more or less universal, which a universal thought that is held more or less without reflection. So apparently it's something you don't have to, or not supposed to have to think about. It's just something that comes to you or that you have. So I don't know, is that pretty dry information? Well, that's the best I could come up with. KN6UYZ, this is my 73 round. I'm gonna go back to sleep. Thanks everybody. This is repeater station Kilo Kilo 7, November Quebec November. KN6UYZ, well have a great rest there buddy. And thank you for joining us, really appreciate it. All right, we move on down to Chuck, AA4HI. Chuck, define common sense for me and give me an example if you can. This is KC2PKG. I agree, AA4HI. I guess common sense is, to me, is not only understanding how to do, you have to be able to implement it, I guess is what I'm saying. You know, being extremely smart. But the smallest things, you know, not being able to understand. Because I really can't think of anything any better than what someone else has said. But I guess you always think about someone as really smart, but I don't know. It's very difficult for them to do simple tasks. And I don't even know if that's even a fair assessment, but you know, because all I've got is from years of someone saying someone doesn't have common sense. But I think a lot of people have common sense. You know, a lot of people, as we know, are not all geniuses, but they can work with their hands and figure problems out and have a lot of good reasoning skills, you know, with other people. I think that's important. I think that has a lot to do with common sense too. Instead of just being directly by the book, being able to talk to someone and explain to them what's going on. That's what I guess it is to me, Gray. Back on you, A4-John. A4-HI, this is KC2PKG. Yeah, it's something beyond being book smart. Chuck seems to be hinting. We used to have a lot of people who had taken every test, knowing the man in the computer business, and yet they had a lot of trouble applying that knowledge. And they did because they didn't sort of have a sense of how everything fits together. That's my example anyway. All right, Carrie, MM0RKN. Tell me what common sense is. And if you have any examples, I'd love to hear them. This is KC2PKG. MM0RKN, I think common sense is something that you kind of develop as you navigate the world. You get more and more of it as you mature, let's say, squat. And as you mature, you get better at it. And I think I worked on myself when I was younger. And my grandma, I visited her very frequently, but I remember the best day that I visited her, to tell her that I was going to university. I passed all my exams, I'd get really good marks. That was fine. And when I visited, I made her a coffee. And she went into the kitchen, and she said to me, this was her words, give me the clever, but you have no common sense. And the example here is, I've made the coffee, but I had left the milk sitting out in the counter. I hadn't put it back in the fridge. And of course, if the milk's left out in the counter, it's going to turn. So that's my example, but I think it comes with maturity. MM0RKN, back to neck control. MM0RKN, this is K2PKG, you're the second person to come. And you've heard you haven't got any common sense. And I often wonder what people mean when they say that. To me, it always sounds like you don't believe what I do. You don't have any common sense. And it's often used as an insult, which I think is, that's the interesting thing. But we've heard that from a couple different people. It is an insult when you say somebody doesn't have common sense. We'll find out. N9OFU Bill, what is common sense? And do you have any examples? Over to you. N9OFU, this is KC2PKG. Thank you, Greg. I've been refining my answer, my response. Because, I mean, just breaking down the word common, it's something that's common, something that everybody knows, kind of just takes for granted. Like if you take a loaded gun pointed at someone and pull the trigger, you're gonna shoot them. If you stick your hand in the fire, you're gonna get burned. If you snip the red wire instead of the blue wire, you're gonna blow up. No, just things that, because of shared experience, especially like here in the United States, I mean, it's not just a regional type thing, but there are some regional aspects to it. But it's things that everybody has in common as far as what they know, and then being able to implement it in your everyday life, like don't stick your hand in a fire, don't load a gun at somebody and pull the trigger. These things are just common sense things that you know if you do it, there's going to be an adverse result or effect or an effect that's going to be a result or a gun result or effect. But just based on what you want to achieve, doing the thing that you know is gonna get you to that point because there are some people out there that think if they do this or if they do that, nothing bad's gonna happen or something good's gonna happen and it doesn't because they don't have the common sense or the shared experience that other people have that would have known, no, that's not what you want to do if you want to achieve a certain goal. That's gonna achieve the opposite. So it's something that most people know or take for granted because of shared experience, shared experience, why everybody's seen this movie, everybody's heard of that story, so everybody knows that you don't want to do that and then someone comes along and does it because they didn't see that movie or they didn't hear that story and they thought that doing that would have a different effect even though everybody else knows that that was wrong. So it's a common experience, a common sense. Back to you. N9-OFU, this is KC2-PKG. One second. Had to clear my throat. Shared experience, shared knowledge, common knowledge that is common among groups of people. That's interesting. That's a very interesting thing to bring out. All right, Jeff, KM4-QVC. Tell me what common sense is and do you have an example? It's over to you, Jeff. This is KC2-PKG over to KM4-QVC. This is Repeater Station- KC2-PKG, KM4-QVC, well, great. All these answers have been really good. I don't have anything to add much. I like what Bill said and I like what Josh said. By the way, happy birthday, Josh. I just saw that on your wife, I think, did a Facebook post. So happy birthday from North Carolina. Anyway, on gray, I, you know, I told them I like what Bill said and what Josh said and what Chuck said to you, so I'll just leave it at that. But I do know this. I can tell you this, gray, I know people that have it and I know people that doesn't have it. I'm a pretty good judge on that side of it. KM4-QVC, back to you, bud. KM4-QVC, this is KC2-PKG. It's a very difficult question. I'm glad I'm asking it. And I'm finding out you're kind of educating me on what you're feeling about the phrase common sense. So I'm happy about that. Marie, KI7ODD, tell me what common sense is and can you cite an example? Over to you, Marie. KI7ODD, this is KC2-PKG."},{"callsign_confidence":0.94,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-08-04T08:26:35+00:00","id":14018,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":14017,"text":" Well, the very first job I ever had was just before they took the, what do you call it, the, the, the, the, doggone, the jobs, doggone, from the children, you know, by making the lease. I was working for Stafford Bean Yards, doing green beans, pulling them off the vine, and you got paid by, by weight, and so on and so forth. The next job, let's see, the next job was Burley's Arco, we serviced, four service trucks, and I had my permit, and he put me in a truck and said, drive this, and I said, but I gotta have somebody in the car. He said, not today, he says, you're working with me, he says, I'm behind you, he says, if a cop pulls you over, I'll pull that right behind him and let him know what's going on. I worked the gold slot in the hard work plant, and we were doing a 196 inch panel, still hot from the press, and it had to be unstacked the first time, otherwise the mill had to shut down while we regrouped, and then our stuff would go over and go through the sander. That's when I went into the service, and that's because the oldest of eight children, and the latter, they came home, I didn't figure I was gonna be looking at doing too awful much education in the past high school, so I went in the service to get my VA benefits. Learned to shift the gears and all that, so by the time I hit the road, on a car, it was easy. So there you go, and I had something else, and yeah, I'm having that brain fart there Terry, but thanks for checking in, thanks for that, and have a great day, glad we got you guys in, check in, hook up to a waiter, so glad we got you in there. So I've got Phil and Ellen rechecked, so let me get Carrie first from Ireland. So I'm M0RKN from KK7 Z- And the question of the day, my first job was actually working as a travel agent, and I did this as a weekend job, and I loved the job, people phoning up to book the holidays, it was very enjoyable to the point that I almost quit university to do the job full time. But I did it in a Saturday and Sunday, and it was a steady wage, steady paycheck that I got each month while I was studying at university. At the time I was studying psychology, and yeah, then I don't know how it happened, but I ended up now working in the local government. Completely went in a different direction, but yeah, you know what it is, get mortgagee, end up with responsibility, get married and all of that as well, and get the bill today, so all of that, Kenny was out and out, and never looked for the work with the We're going through this forum, anyway it's a weather warning, we're getting quite stormy, it started about 10am this morning, and it's going to continue until at least 10pm this evening. Hey, well thank you for carrying in, I remember one of my early jobs, I worked at an airport parking lot and we had a travel agency there, and I remember the travel agency at that time, and then going back to the 1980's, they used to get to travel for free back in those days, because they were selling whatever they were selling, and of course businesses, hotels, airlines, one of them the Port of the Bay, and the other one was the So yeah, that sounds like it would be a fun job, I don't even know if those exist anymore, with today's do it yourself world, a lot of jobs have gone away due to that, so there you go, but thanks Gary, always good to hear you there, and let's go for Phil on a recheck, G0OBX from KK7Z. Thanks Joe for the recheck, I neglected to give a weather report, we're at 72 degrees F, dropped here on the Colorado Front Range under cloudless skies, going up to 94, looks like we're going to be in the 90's for the entire week, cooling off into the weekend. All right, we're gonna do MM0RKN. Good morning, Carrie. How you doing today? MM0RKN is turning. Good morning, Gail. And good morning, everybody on the net. Joyce, Joe, Rosie, Robert, and everybody else and anybody that I might have missed. So good morning, all. I hope you're all having a fantastic morning there. And we're into almost evening time here. It is 15.48 and I've got another hour of work to go. And then I'll be finished for the day there, Gail. And the weather has been a little bit crazy here the last 24 hours or so. We had a storm yesterday, quite a windy storm. Very windy, 80 mile per hour winds. Heavy rain on and off as well. But today, still a little windy, but not quite as bad as yesterday. And the sun's made a bit of an appearance here and there as well. And we're still quite okay temperature wise. We're about 18, 19 degrees Celsius. So can't really grumble. And thankfully, no damage here from the storm either. No damage to the antennas or anything like that. So I'm very glad. And houses nearby seem to be a little bit off here as well. Not as bad as the storm we had in the winter, thankfully there. And I've just came out the stairs and I've sneaked onto FT8. And the 20 meter band is doing not too bad at all there, Gail. So I'm giving that a little shot while I get the chance. And oh yes, I made a purchase the other day as well. I've bought, on pre-order, an FT1X, a Yesu FT1X. So I've looked forward to getting that. I have no idea where I will be in it. I know there is a waiting list, but I watched all the videos and I thought, why not, you'll arrive once. So that's my little treat to myself there. Morning, Chip. Well good morning there Bill and everybody out there today. Yeah, we're, uh, it's a kind of cool day here at the lake, at least starting out the morning. It's only 62, and uh, it's a little kind of thin, thin layer of clouds, and so we're supposed to have rain tomorrow. So we'll see how that goes. We can certainly use it here. We're like 20% blown, or 80%, we only have 20% of the rainfall we're supposed to have for most of the summer, so it's really super dry over here. And so we'd love that, and kind of get some of these fires under control. Plus, we had a rash this morning, or overnight, of some arson fires in the Spokane area. So, uh, anyway, that's, uh, yeah, I wish it would rain hard, weigh everything down. Uh, other than that, not much going on. Today I don't think we're going to get any water. Today is a little, uh, really windy out there, and so it's not going to warm up much today, I don't think. So, anyway, that's all. I just wanted to get in here and say good morning, and uh, we'll talk to everybody later. This is Jim and Jane at Deer Lake, K7, PDZ. Alright, thank you Jim, and Jim and Jane at Deer Lake. Well, you said it's 62 there, and uh, I just looked, and it's uh, 60, uh, 62 here right at the moment. And, for some reason, my weather thing went to Lake Stevens, which is not that far north of us, but they're two degrees warmer. Interesting. Alright, yeah, these fires get over your way for sure, and I know there's a big fire at the, uh, kind of the north end of Lake Chelan, that's probably laying smoke down all over the place. Um, we drove up to Anacortes on Sunday, and they had a bird festival, which was really cool. But anyway, we drove up there on the way back, uh, clear skies here, but very definitely smoke up over the Cascades. This is the station Kilo Kilo 7 November, Quebec, November. All-Star Note 62.2, located at Chelsea. Alright, thank you Jim. AI6XD, good morning. Thank you, AI6XD here. Uh, yeah, it's a beautiful day down here in Burien. I'm just wrapping up a test that I've been doing over the last week with my HF radio. I've got a multiband antenna set up in my backyard, and I've had a time-lapse camera pointed at the radio, uh, so I can sort of see what time of day each of the bands are good, and, uh, my takeaway is 7pm. So I thought that was very interesting. Thank you, AI6XD. Alright. Boy, there's just so many cool things to play with on the computer and on your phone. Um, yeah, I enjoy that. There's some pretty useful things. Plus I read a lot of, uh, and I check e-books out from the library and read them on my laptop or on my phone. Alright, this is the 9 o'clock net for a Tuesday morning. Over to Scotland. M-M-0-R-K-N. Good morning. M-M-0-R-K-N. We're coming. Yeah, very good morning to everybody on the net. And, yes, thanks for saying good morning. It's almost evening here in Scotland. And quite a busy day today. I've been working today and watching my son, who's nine years old. He's thankfully coming to the end of his school holidays, uh, within the next week and a half, so he's definitely leaving back to the routine, as am I. But, um, we had a bit of a storm yesterday, and thankfully the storm didn't cause any damage, but we did have strong winds and heavy rain in Scotland and across the UK yesterday. And, um, it caused quite a lot of travel disruption. Most of the trains, ferries and buses and all that sort of thing were cancelled. But thankfully things are getting back to normal today. Still a little bit windy, but still 18 degrees Celsius. And thankfully not much rain today, so not a lot to complain about, so that's always good here. Anyway, thanks to net control for letting me check in. This is Mike, Mike-0, Romeo, Kilo, November, depending on your back to net control. Alright, thank you. And, uh, yeah, thank you for joining us. I believe you've been here before, and it's always great to hear from you. Well, plans change, don't they? Uh, get, uh, all the, everything planned, ready to go, and then some, some, something comes along, and, uh, all of a sudden you're rewriting the schedule, or, yeah, rewriting chores or whatever. Alright, that is a good list. So let's go back up to the top and talk to Jim. K-7, PDZ. Well, hey, good evening there Brooks and Megan and everybody else out there. Yeah, hey, we've had a great day here at Deer Lake. Oh man, right now it was cool today. It was only high of 66 and right now it's raining. We are sitting outside under the umbrella and that's so cool to sit outside in a rain shower. But anyway, let's see what else. Oh, Jay was reading a book today and it had a new word in it that I have never seen before. Or read before and we talked about it and now I'm trying to incorporate it into my daily vocabulary. I was so frightened I was cowry wobbled. It just rolled up, cowry wobbled. It rolls off the tongue. It sounds like something that Amy could pick up on and do a whole lot of stuff with. Cowry wobbled. Oh man. Anyway, it was really cold today actually. The wind was blowing up. It was 62 degrees and the wind was blowing hard. And now it's 62 degrees and it's no wind so it was very pleasant outside tonight. So Amy, pick up on cowry wobbled. See what you can do with that one. That just sounds like it's right up your alley. Anyway, that's all I got here Brooks and Megan. And you guys have a great evening. 7th race everybody. This is Jim and Jay at Tier Lake K7. Cowry wobbled. Peace. Well, thank you there Jim. Cowry wobbled. Alright. I was trying to Google that. I couldn't quite figure out how to spell it. But you're right. That does sound like an Amy word and hopefully she's still listening and is picking up on that one right now. But yeah, it sounds like you got a nice day over there. Nice and cool with the rain. We had some rain here today also. And yeah, after all of the heat that we've had and the dryness, the rain is definitely welcome for a little bit of a day. And you know, it's going to keep some of the vegetation wet. Hopefully reduce some of the fires and things like that. Well good stuff there Jim. Thanks for stopping by. Radio waves over there to Jane as well. And you have a good rest of your night. Okay, next on the list is Rich. K3OE Rich. Have you got a fun antenna for us tonight? Over to you. Good evening Brooks and Megan. Yes indeed I certainly do and I posted a picture already. So anyway, it's a bicycle theme. So I got a bicycle wheel and handlebars on top. And SWR is not too bad. Round 2, 2.1, something like that. Anyway, we'll be right back. So I got a bicycle wheel and handlebars on top. And SWR is not too bad. Round 2, 2.1, something like that. Anyway, more than acceptable. So I was able to check in on it. So that's a good thing. Anyway, not much else going on here. My station manager, Paul, he got me out three times today. So he's making sure that I get my steps in. But it was a pleasant day for walking. So anyway, always great to hear both of you on the air. Perfect every time. Al Brooks and Megan, thank you for doing the net tonight. Yeah, I just got off the Poppa system down south. And every once a month, they do the power mode net. And essentially what you do is everybody checks in using different modes. And they'll take each mode one at a time, like all-star, D-star, then DMR, and then P25, and then Echo Link. And it tests out your system to see if everything works. And it gives you some pretty good practice to get all your different radios lined up in a row to be able to go on each different mode. So it's kind of a fun thing. It's the first Wednesday of every month at 8 PM on the Poppa system. So it's pretty cool. Anyway, here in the Bay Area today, it was sunny out. It hit about, at one point, about 85 degrees here. It got pretty warm. Turned on the air conditioning for a little bit. And definitely works. And does a good job of just running it. And the rest of the day, it's a nice temperature in here, which is great. The squirrels are very active out there. And I made sure they had water. And they had peanuts and nuts out there so they can keep up their strength. And watching them running in all sorts of directions is a lot of fun to watch. Yeah, that's about it, though. I just had some stuff to eat and was watching some baseball. And that was, oh yeah, the Tour de France, a couple of the sets of that. So that's about it. So let me hand it back to you next. AB 678. November, all star, node 6222, located in Shelton, Washington. All right, good stuff there, Jeff. Yeah, I've heard you talk about that all-mode net before. That sounds like a good one. It's always a hard one for me to try to do right before, especially right before running this net on ABM. So I haven't ever managed to go jump on it. But I should try to do it one of these days. But it sounds like you probably make it a regular thing. So good stuff there. Sounds like a lot of fun. Good to hear that the squirrels are doing good. Nice 85 degree weather down there. It sounds like a good day watching baseball and the Tour de France. Yeah, good stuff there, Jeff. Thanks for stopping by. You have a great rest of your evening. OK, next up on the list, we had an I.O. from Peter, KU6RAX. Thanks for stopping by, Peter. Have a great evening. Next up, we're going to go to Scotland and talk to Kerry, MM0RKN. Good morning over there, Kerry. Good evening, everybody else that's on the net. And I'm just thinking about chocolate swirl cake that the VK station was talking about. I got bad at five a.m. in the morning. You have now got a Russian chocolate swirl cake. That sounded very nice. Yeah, we're just talking through a working week here. We're quite a mixture of wearers this week. The weather's been a little bit crazy. But we're going to be talking about the weather. We're going to be talking about the weather. This week, the weather's been a little bit crazy. We had a storm on Monday, quite a summer storm, heavy wind. The winds were about 80 miles per hour. But luckily, this time, the storm isn't through any damage. And you'll just start to feel the temperature fall whenever so slightly. At the moment, it's 15 degrees Celsius, which isn't bad for this time in the morning. But there's just that kind of change. You can see the water's starting to keep in there. It's definitely a bit darker in these mornings as well. And the visual eyes, just the usual, to be honest, being playing about with my all-star modes. And being quite a few contacts on FTE as well, but it's been 20 meters, which is always quite strange. Usually it's 15, 17 meters, but 20 meters seems to be the best plan for me at the moment. And also waiting on a new video arriving. I think it should arrive today or tomorrow. It's the new issue, FT1XF. And it had to be designed for a little while. I thought, yeah, what the heck, just get it. Wanted to do some photo work, some photo activation and get some field work done. And I do quite a lot of traveling to my sister's caravan and things. I bought the Op to my version, so I've got the Op 3 off the 100 watts. Or I can take that off and have the field version. So gently look forward to using the radio and seeing how well that performs. That's really it for me to take breaks, but everybody take care. It's great to hear everybody. And yeah, thirsty's not that bad when it arrives, I promise. Hi. Sorry to hear about your computer there, and that's got to be super frustrating. You go into the library with two computer mice, and you don't have the dongle for either one. Oh, man, that's tough. I've switched, at least for my computer here that I have at the house, to a Bluetooth mouse. So I don't have to worry about a dongle, because the computer already has Bluetooth built into it. But the mouse I use for my work computer has actually got a dongle in it, so I have to remember that one when I go. But it's got a nice little spot where the battery is. You take the bottom cover off, and a little dongle fits in there. So as far as you remember to pull it out and stick it in that little hiding spot, then you always have it with you. I've done a handful of them this year, but not quite at the clip I was doing them last year, but I've made, I'm always hunting. I always have my radio on. And it's kind of hard to get Scotland from here. I mean, I have gotten other stations from Scotland, but one of these days, the propagation will work out and I will get that contact with her. That would be really cool. So anyway, hope you have a, run, run, run. And that goes for everybody else on the net.
