Then we have Lima Alpha 5, Victor Mike Alpha. Hello and welcome to the net. I don't have your name, so we'll get that in just a second. And then we have KB0-MAI, Jordan Oliver-Houdy. Catch you a slight cough. I'm on the go whenever you checked in. But I guess I just couldn't hear it very well. So good morning to you all. We'll go to V-1-W-I-N. Good morning and how are you this morning? The mic is yours. Good morning, Josh. Welcome to V-1-W-I-N in net control. There you go. I'm surprised. I just turned this on. Yeah, I was up earlier but went back to bed. I got up at like probably 5.30. Then I stayed up for a little bit, watched a little TV, then went back to sleep and just woke up like 5, 10 minutes ago. We're going to get dressed here soon. And we brought a new garbage bin for the front yard. Our other one kind of brought it apart. Well, yeah. Then I got to put the garbage in the shed for now. Apparently, I didn't want any ammo beaten. So once we get the new bin today, they're going to deliver it. It costs us $350 for the bin. But this is a nice looking garbage bin anyway. Other than that, Josh, not too much, man. Just a little bit of a break. I'm just reading a book here on coastal Maine. Where to go and what to see in Maine. I'll be down there in September sometime. After Labor Day, I think is when we're going to go. Other than that, Josh, I hope you're here, man. If Dale is here, I'd like to apologize for Wednesday. Because I had to go to a club meeting. And I don't know why. I didn't just check in and out. But I was having internet issues. And also yesterday I was having internet issues. So here you go. Thank you, Josh. Keep me on the list, man. I'll be here."},{"callsign_confidence":0.94,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-08-08T05:23:49+00:00","id":15173,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":15172,"text":" OK, nothing hurt. We're going to leave him tentatively on my list. I'm here to help him back. So what we have on the list so far this morning is AA-4-HO and KC-2-PKG, KN-4-LDF. We had a couple of in and out. V-1-WIN, LA-5, VMA, and then tentatively KV-0-MA. So that's not the first big round of initial check-ins. I'm going to stop moving on and we'll take a few more check-ins here shortly. But let's get on to the main part of the net. So I am glad you all have made it to the cowabunga net today. It is my first Friday at net control and my fourth attempt total at net control. So if I make a mistake or two, I think it's to be expected. A man once said never apologize in advance and I've already done that. So we can see that that is over. So let's kick it off by asking the question of the day. I will start getting in the habit of posting these in advance like he does. I think that's fair. It gives everybody time. Well with that being said, the question of the day is what brings you to the cowabunga net? Let me hear why you've come to us this morning. Did you come daily? I'd like to know why. What brings you back all the time? Did you come weekly or monthly? Or if you don't love me at all? I'd also like to know why. Good or bad? We really don't care. We really like to know why. That's how we can kind of form the net and kind of make these nets more engaging for you, the participants. I'm not really doing the net control because it's fun for me, although it is. I do it for you guys and girls. I am generally interested in doing a lot of what y'all are doing and I would like to know as much about it so y'all really care. That being said, we will go ahead and move up to AA-4-H-O. We'll ask Juan one more time the question of the day. Juan, you come here every day and some days you have some battles and some days you don't. You have one of those perspectives that are quite different from most of the other people on the net, kind of like myself. So, with that being said, why don't you come to the net, buddy? What do you get out of it? What do you enjoy? What would you like to change? And that's all we're going to do for the first question. So with that, we're going to send it to Juan. AA-4-H-O, this is KJ Fab. IAP, the mic is yours. Again, Josh, good morning to you and everybody participating in the cowabunga net on the two truck van. I wanted to keep it short because I was on previously and I know I was cutting in and out. And I want to get back with you real quick, Josh, to find out if I'm in solid now because I switched over to the backup. I mentioned that I had a conversation this morning and I talked for a long time with Dan, the retired physician, that lives in Columbia now and we had a nice conversation and if you hadn't caught it, you had missed, I think, something real good. And we had it left open that anyone could have participated in. So how is this coming in now, Josh? My friend, you're covering the end almost crystal clear. No popping, no breaking. You're appropriately readable. Yeah, great. Now let me get on to the question. Thank you for that, Josh. I did say this a few times before about why I am here every morning. I do think that there's something special here going on and that's one big thing that brings me back here every day. You know, before I start listening, his head swells up and you can't get it out through the front door. That is actually a secondary thing. The primary reason actually, to put it simply, is that it just fell right in line with my schedule. And I get to, since I get up early in the morning, beyond here and the time that I have before my day starts really getting going, that time just goes by quick and I don't have to go looking for something to do. And the fact that this is a net that I feel is very worthwhile and special. There's a side effect besides. And this is something I've said before. Okay, Josh, that's the answer to your question this morning. I'm going to turn it back over to you, Ron. AA-4 or AA-2, you're referred. AA-4, AA-2, this is KJ-5. Hi, OQ. Well, that's good. Special net. I agree with you. This is a special net. I have been looking and listening to a few other ones. I was thinking part, I didn't think part of the outcome of that for a while. I started logging in and just saw something for a while before I could check in. And I agree so far, it is a wonderful kind of net. We're going to take the question and we're going to pose the same thing to Gray. And I am sure that Gray is going to have some very interesting answers on this question. Being in that controller for this net, he does have the flexibility to change things on his net. So I'm sure he has a different perspective, especially since that's lately. Actually since I've been on, which I guess is like before long enough, I've been on it the whole time, you know, about eight, nine months worth. His question is, is the question of the day always on the page? His segments are what I'm calling them, are always engaging. And he does some things on every of them that I've not heard of people doing, like interviewing people and things like that, which I found fascinating. So with that, Gray, we're going to pass it on to you. Tell us, you know, what brings you back to the Cabo net? Why do you like to host it since you are a net control host? And what made you decide to make your net the way that you made it? Your question is a little different because you are a next controller. And I'd just like to get that perspective from you. KJ5, I want you over to PCH. Located in Shelton, Washington. This is KJ5IRQ. This is KC2PKG. A little administrative at first. When George checked in, he said he was going to be in and out. So you don't have to, I don't think you have to keep calling him. The other thing is you got somehow, magically, you got Raynold from Tronheim, which we don't hear from him a lot. And it's always cool when he gets on. Talk about unique perspectives. It's an interesting guy. I come back every day and listen on Sundays. Because I really want to know why people think the way they think. It's an old story. But we, when we moved up here, it was very early in, well it was actually the beginning of the surprise Trump administration. And I was totally caught off guard. I never thought that guy would get a vote. I thought he was a joke. But he got voted in. And I suddenly realized that I don't know much about my own country and people in it. I know about the people in my circle, but I don't know about anybody else. So, now I live way, way, way north and east. And it's, let me drop it for a second. Okay, AC2, the AG return, hopefully briefly. And, I called it, when I first got here, it was Radio Deadland. I mean, I scanned every repeater. And there's at least 20 repeaters. And there's nobody talking on them at all. So that didn't really, that wasn't very exciting. And I couldn't find out what people were thinking that way. So I jumped back on Echo Link, which I used a lot in New Jersey. And somehow I stumbled across the Dew Drop Inn, which was there at that point in time. The net, Cow Bung Anet, was only an hour long. And it has lengthened throughout that time to now at least two and a half hours every day. It's my radio club. You guys are my club members, or the other club members. And even though I belong to two, they really never do anything. It's the activity and the traffic on this net that really sets it aside. It's a great thing. It is a great thing. And I'm constantly selling, saying, you know what, you need to hook up to a conference server. You got all these dead repeaters here that don't do anything at all. Put a conference server on there. So that there are people talking. There are people to interact with. I'm not a great salesman, I guess. Anyway, and okay, I'll drop it one more time. You shouldn't ask. All right. This time I am returning only briefly. This is KC2PKG. I started changing around my net because I wanted to do things that were different. I wanted to push the envelope. And I've got a bunch of different ideas. I usually try them out first, see how people react to them, get their honest opinion. And then I go back, I've got a pop quiz coming up Monday. That'll be the activity. But I think people like crosswords. Some people like 20 questions. The interview thing is great, but I've run out of people to interview. I had a whole bunch of people who said they're just too busy during the summer and it's too early in the morning for them. So I'm trying to figure out how to time shift it. So that we can keep doing that because I think people really enjoyed it. And I'm constantly looking for new ideas, new ways of doing things. So I challenge you, man. I am challenging you. Do something new. Surprise everybody. Anyway, back to you. KJ5IRQ, this is KC2PKG. KJ5IRQ, this is KJ5IRQ. And you can like me, I would say, especially in the quietness around local regions. We have a local coordinator on the left. Hello. I've never been on a radio, which has not been very loud. I've never been truly active, active. So I'm going to try to get you guys to come up here. I'm going to try to get you guys to come up here. I'm going to try to get you guys to come up here. I'm going to try to get you guys to come up here. I've never been truly active, active. Now there's a guy on there I get on on. He used to get on and talk to a lot. But he recently got his general license and got on the scene with my advantage and some other things that I'm not into. And at the moment, I don't get to talk to him as much. There's another little old man on there. He's a retired veterinarian. He's a really cool guy. But he also runs a ranch. We all don't understand ranches in Texas. Back in the 80s, we had a sort of land of the cow, 200 to 1,000 acres, making the land of hundreds and thousands of cows. I think he said he had around 150 acres, 100 acres, something like that. And it's similar to going to town. And he runs a town on the Pat. But he's a 70-something-year-old man, if I remember right. And he's out there working that ranch every day. So he just doesn't have time for him radio. He jumps on in the middle of the day when he is speaking one of his kids to run up or something like that. And then once in a while, hundreds of thousands of years, his wife has already been down. He takes a camera also. The other guy that was on our repeater, he died. So in the summer, there's no activity on the local DHS repeaters at all. There is something called the North Texas Central Connection. I believe that was in the NCTC.net. I believe it's a website. It's really cool. It's about 40-ish or so we've been as linked up all across Texas. Huge network. It's fairly active. The problem is that it's not going to interfere with people. I mean, they give you a hard time or hear your signals off. They give you a hard time about a lot of things. And then you're going to turn me off. So I don't get on there. It's really sad, too bad, because there's a lot of good people that I hear talking on there. And maybe I'll get back on it again one day. But I don't get to read as much. I stick with all story and echo and run out. That seems to be where I need to be. And so that's where I'm focusing my focus on. You and that stuff, it's really good. I'm going to take a real quick break. One hour over, Archie goes through an extended Friday. He is to firstly and slope. Entering a radio, I guess you can call it 3.0, and see who passes you the point on that. I mean, guys and girls, we have a dying hobby. It's up to us to keep it alive. If we don't change at the time, the radio's not going to occur, seeing more than what it is. And so that concerns me. I really enjoy it, like I was telling my wife yesterday, recording on your radio. It's the hobby that you can never even get bored in. If you're bored and you're also in a low-end, well, pick up an agent for it. Get you a general license and try that out. So yeah, I want to pressure her to hold some of this. I don't want it to be as big as that. I want it to be engaging. I want it to be something that everybody would like to be a part of. What's really good was people who want to purge the low-end radio. I'm trying to say that tactfully. Because I know there's a lot of people who want to keep things just the way it is, and that's pretty acceptable. I'm just not one of them. So with that, I'm going to send it to TK and 4LDF. Miss D, you're a little bit less new than I am. So I'm just interested to hear your take. Why don't you come to the car, what do you get out of it? Yeah, that. So the mic is yours. This is K and 4LDF. This is D. Josh, I'm going to tell you. When I first came into him, I had a serious thing called mic fight. Every time I picked up the receiver, I would go into a cold sweat. So I tried very hard, and because that was a problem for me, I got my license in 2018. I just stopped, just gave me a headache, I just got sick, pop up tasers, just talking out to people. And then I picked it up again, and my area is really silent where I'm at. There is nothing. So I decided to go into Echo Link. When I first tried Echo Link, it wouldn't work for me. I couldn't get it for about two or three weeks, and they wouldn't have started working for me until I figured it out. I was able to go into different rooms and nets. I downloaded a couple of schedules, and I started seeing interesting things. Let me reset, one moment. So then when I came into Do Drop In, I downloaded a schedule, and I really like learning from different places. I like to absorb, I like to learn things. I have an open mind. At least I believe I have an open mind. And I like different places' opinions, like Canada and England and different places, because that lets you understand where other people think about our country, our USA country. So by learning while other people think about you, and within ourselves. Within ourselves and this country is another thing. And I like the controversy, but what I do like about this specific here in Do Drop In is, it is still respectful if you have a controversial conversation here. You don't have derogatory expressions in here, which I appreciate, because if you come to that bullying and derogatory name calling and stuff like that, out probably would just not come anymore. That would not be my thing. But so far you guys have kept it respectful and common courtesy, which is very good. I appreciate that. So for me it's very critical for people to have respect, for me to stay in that particular room. And learning about other countries and where we stand today, different people's opinions really does matter. Because if you have an open mind you can learn something out of another person's opinion. And you can keep on the manure just by learning by other people's experiences too, I think. Well, I'm Miss Kay and for LBS, this is Dee. Back to Josh."},{"callsign_confidence":0.94,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-08-08T05:29:41+00:00","id":15176,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":15175,"text":" Here's G-1 W-I-N. Yeah, it's a pretty good bridge, first of all. Funny, I said, Peter, I don't even have a name next to it. Anyhow, um, I've turned around names now, makes a call for me on my team. Helps me in the north reserve, but I don't always do that. I need to get a system, see, I'm a creature of habit. And I've got to figure out my system for Friday mornings. I will get there. It just takes a little theory to get there. But you're right, this is, you know, this net is unique. Um, we are respectful to one another. And it seems like we lead out or help correct the ones you don't. Um, I did not know that you used to be on that controller, unless you did Friday and got in trouble. Um, I myself have got in trouble. About there I worked for it, we were dropping a bomb on the air work. Um, I promise you it won't be the only time I drop it. I'm sorry, now I flip up, I'm here and I make a mistake. I do try not to cuss a whole lot out loud. I still cuss a lot of my pecs and stuff to my buddies and stuff. Uh, nothing of the, uh, begins cussing. I think it's just a valid form of expression. It's no different than saying a hole or three. Being sent behind the word changes it, not the word itself. However, I don't want to offend people. Um, this is where I try throughout my life these days, is just kind of to offend people. Now, I am a blunt person who is a speaker without thinking. I get myself in trouble a lot. Um, but anyhow, this net is phenomenal. It is by far the master net that I've been a part of. Of course, I don't have a home on the research, but there you go. We're going to move down to Renault, LA-5, VMA. Um, I don't know if you're staying on the, on the loose a lot, but I'm going to call TNC Quebec. Come back to the mic and you'll still with us. This is repeater station kilo kilo seven, November Quebec November. All star node six two two two. Located in Shelton, Washington. Alright, nothing of the earth. I thought he had said when he was talking about he appreciated it and loved it, but I didn't turn my keys to go read back on. But I wasn't for sure. He's on the list and it's easy to earn X's name. That brings me to the bottom of the list since George was in an Al Pinkie grave, by the way, for telling me that I did not catch that. But I have it down now. Me and Lily are going to fight. Lily is this little bitty street kitty. She is itty bitty right now. She seems like she might have been the rush of the litter. But she is still taking the same seat as us and I have come to love this little kitty. She's a creative and loving and the only thing I don't like is she's like all hot. When you're eating she wants to be there eating with you. I can't stand that. I'm trained, my dog is specifically not to sit there and look at me or you being around me when I'm eating. So we'll have to work on Lily a little bit. But she is going down to the vet soon. She is not going to have babies. Lily is kind of like my dog Willow. I am pretty big about them not having babies. Funny enough I was asked a week or so ago by a guy, he was out in town with his boy, and I was out in town with my boy, and he wants to breed him. He is all about having babies, dogs. And I was like, no. Even if I can give it all to puppies, that changes my dog. She's never the same. So the answer to breeding my dog or my cat is no. Don't know what brought that up, I just thought about it. All right, we are on the bump list. It is 7.20. I think I've taken check-ins two or three times. I'm trying to figure out the best way to do that. I don't like to split up in the middle, but I may need to. I've cleaned up their check-ins, seems like my notes is right around 7 a.m. and it's 7.20. So I am asking for check-ins. Come slowly if you don't mind, and clearly I am new at this. And I don't always catch them, but I am certainly bound to take yours. Go ahead with your call sign if you'd like to join the cows on the night. Victor, Oscar 1, uniform, C, F, E, O, 1, E, O, X, O, 2, Charlie, I hear it, thank you. I've got a couple of minutes, Josh. I'm gonna have to be a restorant episode. I don't know if anybody here watches the old restorant television show. It is actually one of my favorites. I just love watching the versions of the restorant when the show is out. It's a little outdated now, but man, it's still such a great show. I specifically remember one episode where they were trying to get confirmed for justice. The guy was arrested for drinking and driving in the episode up in Maine. He was in town, I think he was in Nova Scotia, coming back to the White House or something like that. He was pulled over for drinking. He was a blue-up, blue-up, blue-up, drop-off, something that would kill him. If he drank alcohol, so I would have been drunk. But they were talking about how he was in Keek, taking the time to get to the White House for the president because he was in Keek on coastal Maine. And that's just what it made me think of. So that sounds really fun. Especially after the late-night because you know when you start calling off, it would be really nice. But we appreciate that. We're gonna move on to Lima Alpha 5, Victor, Mike, Alpha. Hi, my name is Josh, KJ5IRQ, and I am the net controller today on the gala, Bonganette. Name on the side is Sir Raynald, Romeo, OPA, Yankee, November, Oscar, Lima, Delta, and the QTH is Trondheim, in the central part of Norway. The WXA is nice and sunny, about 71.6 degrees Celsius, so yet another day with nice weather here in the central part. Ian Pye was going to try to answer your question, but why I come to the net? I do so because it's a nice way to meet new and old ham radio fans. When I came back to the ham radio, I didn't have any 8-check radio, so I used Echo Link. I'm still using Echo Link and DMR alerts, and that's a nice way to stay in touch with new and old ham radio fans. So that's the main reason for me coming back to the net. For one, I am on your net, Josh is changing a bit, but I try to stop by when I have time to do so. Otherwise, there's nothing much going on here today. I have a nurse here, visiting me for the moment, so he is doing his job. At the same time, I'm having a good time at the net this afternoon. So that's the day on this side, Josh. I'll be sure to have a nice morning, and I hope to catch up with you again later. This is Lima Alpha, fly back to make alpha, returning Mike back to the net. Alright, alright, well Victor, I'm sorry, Lima Alpha 5, Victor Mike Alpha, this is, uh, he is E85 IRQ, and uh, wow, he began to fly today. You're already half ready, over half ready to leave your day. It is, uh, just about 7am here in Texas, where I am at. Uh, so, we are glad you joined us today. Um, just a general knowledge, the cow brought in at off-brake 6.30, uh, 2.9am, Monday 2.5, that's Texas time. You'll need to adjust into your time zone. Uh, that would be an hour ahead in the eastern time zone, and if you're on the Pacific coast of the United States and you're looking at your eyes before, uh, and then you can do some math on all the other time zones. But we are glad that you are here with us today. Uh, and then we're gonna move to KD0MAI, George! You were looking up today a little bit, buddy, but I think you'll probably be back out on the road. Well, very excellent signal there. So good sound quality as well through that radio and your microphone and whatever you got going on for that antenna. You're hitting the voterscope here. You probably heard me mentioning to Corey earlier. If you were lighting up every single all six of the receiving stations almost at full, it was Cougar that you're coming in the strongest at full 255 RSSI, but you were pegging the rest of them up in the high 240s there. So I even know we'll say you could probably whatever wattage you were transmitting at, you could probably reduce that quite a bit and still have an excellent signal coming in there. So yep, you're doing the job here. So have fun on the HF. But yeah, don't forget about us two meter folks. We're a lot of fun too. So hope to catch you down the log there soon again, Matt. So you have a good night. Thanks for the check. Oh, I was going to say Fort Oregon. I was just there last weekend for a wedding gig with my string quartet there. We were playing some music there. Lovely Fort Oregon. I think in one shot, one picture, I think we had at least 11 deer. They were just everywhere. They're not even afraid of the humans. They walk right around you and whatever. So anyway, lovely over there. All right. Thanks for that check in. I hope to catch you down the log soon. All right. Last on this list, Reynold LA5VMA. Lima Alpha Five Victor Mike Alpha. Good morning to you John and good morning to the NET. And, early this morning to catch up with the NET because we ended our daylight saving time last Sunday. And you are having your daylight saving time one week later so to catch up with the NET I have to get up earlier than normal. And I am still trying to get used to the normal time here. So I guess it will take a few more days to get used to it. Otherwise nothing much to tell from this side. WX here is four to one degrees Fahrenheit and so far no rain reported. But I guess we will get more rain here later today as we have had very wet weather conditions here lately. So I have a long day ahead. I am going, I am leaving for the city center in a few hours and then I will be in the downtown area the rest of the day. I have a couple of meetings and so on going on. So that is what I am going to do today. I tried to be curious on the NET when I have a chance to do so. So I hope I will continue to get on the NET here because as soon as you end your daylight saving time you will be back in the normal time. And then you will have the NET together with my breakfast. So I look forward to get the changes done so I can get back to normal time. And I don't have to worry about missing NETs because they are temporary change in the time. That is the story of this side John. I don't want to keep the mic any longer. I wish you all a nice evening and hope to see you again soon. This is how I saw your VMA.
