We would love, if you can wait until the 73 round, that would be great. But yeah, I know what you're saying, you got out of the hobby and came back and you know it's amazingly more common than you would think. A lot of stations I've talked to on digital and HF were amateur radio operators that had to get out of the hobby for some reason or another and ended up coming back so that's pretty common and I'm glad you're back. And you know you're right, I mean it's amateur radio, I guess it's a service and a hobby. But luckily we don't have to use it as a service very often and so it's mostly a hobby most of the time. But it's actually a whole ton of hobbies within a hobby. You know, you get started on HF, UHF and kind of figure out the repeaters and then you've got to learn, you're constantly having to learn new modes, new bands, all that stuff. So to me, it's a whole ton of hobbies within a hobby and so we'll come back to you on the 73 round, we'd love to hear your announcement. Richard, thanks for being here, we sure do appreciate it. KF5SSR, KN5Y, over to you Jeanette. This is repeater station Kilo Kilo 7.0. KF5SSR, Richard. The reason you don't hear me saying it every single time is because honestly it is not as required in digital as it is when you're on HF because here they can find you. But there it's pretty hard so a lot of people get away with a lot of stuff on regular HF and I've heard it, I'm sure you've heard it. So they're tough, that's where they're really strict at. Here they're a little bit more lenient and I try to make it more friendly. I call everybody by their call sign but I try not to be too strict on it but I've not gotten into any trouble over that yet. But anyway, it's good to get into the habit of doing it so when you get on HF you're supposed to identify every time on HF. Anyway, but don't worry about that. Let's go to KJ5F0X, Chad. Chad has been a ham and we've really enjoyed having you. So what's new with you? What got you interested in amateur radio? And if you'd like to tell us a little bit about your journey. Fox, come on."},{"callsign_confidence":0.8700000000000001,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-08-02T18:11:57+00:00","id":13642,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":13641,"text":" Alright, well Mickey must be gone too and let's add Virgil. Let's just go ahead and call on Virgil right quick because he's mobile. K4CUP, hello to you Virgil, how you doing this evening? And whatever you want to add, come on in. Well, good evening Jeanette and KN5Y, good evening to you also Mike. This is K4CUP Mobile and I just logged on to rank2.app here in the mobile and man they've done some updating on that website. Especially on my end, they've got dark mode on there now. So I'm going to have to figure out how to, when I get home I'm going to have to figure out the settings on how to get that off of dark mode. So, because I'm kind of looking at a blue screen but all the check-ins on the west are kind of highlighted. So that's a new feature, something that I've never seen before on the rank2.app, rank2.app, I'll set that one. But, I don't remember my very first phone contact but I do remember my first CW contact. And man I was nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs when I was sitting there in the chair and you know it was just like between. And you know I was kind of like being too shy. So let me take a break and roll some windows up here because I'm starting to get some road noise. So let me take a quick break. And I was sitting there on the radio and the radio that I was using at that time. It was kind of a drifter, and what I mean drifter. If you locked it down, see the radio didn't have any lock buttons on it or nothing. So it either drifts up or down the band or whatever. I might be sitting on that 28027.00 and well next thing I know through the transmission it might drift up to .5 or .3. Or .5 or .6 or down, even maybe go on the downside. But of course it was an old radio, it was an old Tintec and things of that sort. But it was solid state but you know it had already done its due from the other radio operator. But you know this guy was calling CQDXCQDX and I thought, now I can either respond to him by throwing my call back to him. Or we're just sitting here like a cat in a room full of rocking chairs. So I kindly picked up, got up enough nerve to throw my call out there. Then it was KG4VMB. And so after I did that, this guy come back to me. You're 599 and my name is Sutton and I'm in West Virginia and so on and so forth. And the journey began there for my first CW. And I had a program called CWGDXCQDX which would copy out whatever was being sent. And to that end I still got that in my archives. I saved a copy of it, printed it out on a piece of paper. So I still got that down and that was back in 2003 and now here it is 2025. And so you know it's been nearly 22 years ago when I first made my first CW contact and I've not stopped since. But anyway thank you so much. I will travel on to the house and thank you all for doing this. And I'll be your host or co-host next week. So come join us. KI5SSR K4CUPMOVL. Thank you K4CUPMOVL. I think there's a Harley next to you and I want a ride. Just kidding K4CUPMOVL. Yes Virgil will be here next week and we'll have a really great topic to talk about. So come and join us. Anyway this is KI5Y, I'm here in Aloua, central Scotland. And yeah, well my journey as far as the amateur radio is concerned. I came through probably the most popular route. And that was, I was a CB'er back in the 1980s. I was a CB'er, I had a CB in the car and everything else and I loved it. And then of course these, what's it called, the scanners came out. And of course I managed to get a scanner and I'm listening around. And I could hear all this traffic that was happening on the like 145 MHz. And I'm thinking what's on there, what's all that about? So I was a CB'er and I was asking other guys and I'm saying what's all that about? Oh they go, that's the posh guys, that's the posh people. Oh they're the licensed guys. Oh really, okay. And how do you get licensed? Oh you have to go and sit at the exam and everything else. But don't worry about it. Well I did worry about it and I thought no, I actually want to hear myself on that part of the scanner that I'm listening to.
