I just got out of the shower a couple of minutes ago not underwater Yes, Jeff sounded a whole lot better after he rebooted there like a whole lot Yes, it is a glorious day and we got a couple more days as you mentioned following this it'll also be glorious Not too hot. I had a friend who called me last evening said their air conditioner quit working This was a window air conditioner that had been put in the window about I don't know about eight years ago Just a kind of a low-cost one, you know Nothing fancy and they leave it in there all winter which probably isn't good but Anyway, they said it quit working. So I went over there to take a look Well, you know it's been in there for like eight years. So that's pretty good service So if they needed a new one for next year well, this year's pretty much over as far as the hot weather goes so not so bad, but Went to switch it on and there was no action So I went down and looked at the power core at the plug and it's got one of those plugs. It's got a circuit breaker and or probably Grand fault interrupter circuit in it and that was popped pushed back in everything works fine So I'm reckoning that it probably got a little wet the other day when we had that little bit of rain. You know it feels like, really feels like fall tonight is pretty chilly but it's nice and clear, no rain yet, I know that's coming. Haven't talked to you in several weeks but I've been traveling for work. Now let's see, let's take out the list here. Western Montana, lots of deer in Western Montana on the highway, so you have to watch out for that. Vicksburg Mississippi, went down there for a training. Lots of really friendly people, good barbecue, kudzu growing everywhere. Got to see, I've never been in Vicksburg before, that was a first. Very hot and humid it was. And then immediately after that, after flying back the very next morning, I had to get up and go down to San Diego, California. Spent a little time down there. The only thing unusual I can say about that is there were three active aircraft carriers at the base there. I've never seen three aircraft carriers in one place at one time. I thought, oh that was strange but we got a good photo of three lined up all ready to go. They weren't in dry dock or anything so that was kind of weird. After that it was in Oregon. I've got a site I work at down there where the weather was very nice, not too hot, not too cold. I'll probably be going down there again in a few weeks and it will be probably much colder. I'm up working on top of a mountain close to between three and four thousand feet up the side of a mountain and not looking forward to cold weather. There's a little bit of cold weather work coming up for me there. Traveling a little bit with the kegs too and my homemade, I made a homemade random wire antenna that works pretty well outside but I can't always take it with me where I go to work. It's kind of a pain when you're living out of a hotel and you can't really use it inside the hotel. I suppose you could throw the wire out the window at the hotel. I've never done that. This is Joe, KI7Z Mike Mike. And tonight I'd like to report in honor of Veterans Day coming up. I spent Saturday with an old friend in Olympia who I only see maybe once a year at most. I went to college with him in the early 80s. I was in the Air Force with him after that. And basically their family is like a second family to me. So it was his mother's 90th birthday. His father is gone already. So I got to spend all day with them and let them know they're really like an extended, another family to me. Not my actual family, but I've known them for like 43 years. So they're like family. And a friend and I got to talk about our time in the Air Force. He was an electronic warfare officer on a B-52. And we talked about a friend who didn't make it back from Desert Storm as B-52 went down in the Indian Ocean. So I said about him, and we're always thinking, well, if we were in his chair that would have been a bad day for us. We wouldn't have come back. But he didn't come back. And I think about him often. Fortunately, my boss is far away, but every holiday is in China than we do here, although they do recognize that most of the customers I work with are in the U.S., and they recognize that Christmas and New Year's are kind of sacrosanct that kind of get people to break in. So if it wasn't for this expense report stuff and some other things, oh, here's the story. The other day I get a text message from DHL that says I owe $46.07 in fees, duties, and taxes. I'm supposed to go to this website on my phone, click the link, and pay the bill. I'm looking at my email, what do I have that's coming from DHL? I just got some shipments from China, some small stuff from FedEx, which is what we usually years and I've accounted for that but what's this thing from DHL? Well it's almost Christmas and I'm thinking well maybe it's, like last year they sent me a tie, a black tie, hmm all right yes very valuable. So uh what's worth 46 dollars or whatever? So um call uh look back to folks in China says uh am I expecting some package? I got this thing you know for duties and fees and stuff And they go back and say, oh no, we sent you a Christmas gift, but all the fees have been paid, you don't need to pay anything. And I'm going, um, okay, so I called my coworker, who was down at the only other employee we got in the U.S., was down in the LA area, and he says, yeah, he got the gift they haven't delivered it yet, he contacted back in China, and he says, oh yeah, you can just put it on our DHL account. And I go, okay, fine. And I go okay fine. I guess they decided they wanted to pay for it. So actually I'm going to go pick it up in a few minutes here which is I'm trying to get out the door for that. It's been delivered to some kind of pickup center. I didn't have it delivered to my place because they didn't know if I was going to be here or not. And they had the address wrong anyway when they sent it from China. So anyway I guess I'll go ahead and pay the $46 or $44 whatever the heck it is, and put that on my expense report and read right back to the people in China. It says, well, thank you very much for the tide slash mooncake slash whatever it is, gift that they send me. There was a charge. I did have to pay it. And it's on my expense report. And I may have to put that on sometime today and crank it up. Sam's got a site survey down in Bend this afternoon, so when she's gone maybe I'll put it on and not bother her at work that way and crank it up on the big stereo and listen to it. Joe here, Pedestrian Mobile as always, KI7Z Mike Mike. It's high time I give a report. I've been gone for several weeks or working weird shifts, so here's what I can tell you. First on the kicks, too, I'm one of those strange people that if I can't use it to communicate with people, I like to listen to WWV or WWVH and listen to the time signal and find it interesting. Sometimes there's interesting messages that they plug in between the top of the minute. You probably are familiar with that. So the KX-2 can do that. It's fantastic. But I've been busy. I've been busy. I've been working the flood times. I've been working in the Emergency Operations Center up on the Skagit River supporting the flood efforts. I've been monitoring water levels near dams to make sure that there's no seepage in the dams and I've been exploring an old army combat range to making sure that the public is safe and not trespassing through areas where there's unexploded ordnance and things like that. And I spent a week with my family down in Arizona, just got back from that, where it was 80 degrees down there and now it's chilly out here I'm trying to get acclimated again but I can tell you the most interesting thing about monitoring water levels near dams we have these wells we call piezometers and we have vibrating wire piezometers inside these wells that can measure a water level and temperature and some other things and normally the data is collected in the data logger and you come along every week or so or less and you collect the data the old fashioned way with a USB cable and a laptop or a more modern way through radio. They can signal to, several instruments can signal, send data through a radio to a hub where that can be transmitted in various ways to an office where you can look at the water level data and check to see if there's seepage at your dams. You know, things like that I'm doing to keep myself busy. And now I think I'm ready for a break. Christmas is coming up. So I want to wish you a happy Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and hope to talk to you all soon. 73 from Joe K7Z Mike Mike back in air control.
