It reminded me of when my dad was in the hospital up in Sandpoint, Idaho back in the early 80s, had a sawmill accident and his feet hung over the bed because he didn't have a bed that was big enough. He was only 6'7\", but his feet would hang over the end of the bed and he had to put quarters in the television. He didn't have anything fancy, no cable or anything, it was just regular TV, but you had to put quarters in the television in the hospital to watch TV. So his work had a huge stack of quarters there. My brother and I's job was to just sit there feeding quarters into the TV while my dad was recovering there. So yeah, things are tough back there. It's not an easy time, but at the same time it hits differently, certainly than when I lost my mom 32 years ago. she was only 51 and that was really heart-wrenching and I didn't have the same level of emotional stability or maturity it wasn't immature but you know it just wasn't I didn't have length of years to have the perspective and now it just hits differently it's sad it's a pillar of my life but at the same time I'm mostly functioning but it's kind of funny I went into to start working yesterday because I was going to try to knock some things out at work and my boss he's wonderful my whole team is wonderful but he came in he sent me an instant message you know you do have some bereavement leave coming he pointed it out and sent me the link to the policy and so I decided as the day went on I really needed it I wasn't doing so well plus I had a bunch of calls and things to do I set up an obituary yesterday by the way I'll post Just a link to that, to the worldwide friendship net, a link to the obituary I set up and we're working on a memorial and I had to do all the mundane things that an executive trustee has to do, you know, shutting down his pension, I reached out to social security, all that good stuff. This is Ki7DR in Independence, Oregon and the sun just popped out in the back of my yard, really pretty. Well we'll see. First off an update, my dad who went into the hospital just over a week ago with water on the heart and he was in the cardiac ICU, that's where he started out. Then it became an issue with his kidneys maybe also, but then both of those subsided and after he was checked in and you know in a hospital room for a while they found that his lungs have a lot of water so they've been working on that. He was having trouble breathing. But the goodness is all of those things whatever the heck caused them and they never could figure that out have subsided and he's going home probably today so he's doing better. My brother lives with him and so he'll be making sure he's getting what he needs. So that's the good news. What I do for fun, I like to cook and make things. In fact I make in an ongoing way I have a kefir culture. Kefir is like a drinkable yogurt or kefir however you pronounce it, I pronounce it kefir. And so I use this culture and I make a fresh batch every other day. I just harvested one and I added some bananas and some apples that one of our pinaural players, grandma's pinaural players, gifted us with an amazing number of Red Delicious apples and I'm doing my best to work with them. I made a puff pastry apple tart yesterday and among other things and just working with them a lot. So I put some of those in my kefir smoothie along with banana and cinnamon and a little stevia. So I like to do things and I like to put her in the kitchen. It's relaxing to me. I will also read but I love watching the YouTube. I seek out educational and informational ones so it's just relaxing to me. Don't watch a lot of TV but I do like Only Murders in the Building and a few other things like that. So and a lot of PBS programming. I'd love to see all things, all creatures great small come back soon. I think it'll probably be January. That's it for me. So, bottom line of this, I guess sharing with my family here on the worldwide friendship that it is. Recently I've been looking at senior living or adult living facilities. I don't need assisted living yet. They will probably come, but that's under God's control. And I've not made any decisions. I've now seen four that are acceptable. I have another review this afternoon with another facility. I'm trying to stay really close to Bill Canyon so that I can stay connected with Jeannie, not a 30-45 minute drive to go visit her, that kind of stuff. And also stay connected with the Saturday game group activities that I've done ever since I moved here. But this is a huge change in my life to be able to regain control of her house. A big plus for me is that I will be in a facility where I'll be able to have breakfast, lunch, and dinner taken care of for me because I'm not a cook and housekeeping will be taken care of for me, etc. And then I'm selecting facilities where I can upgrade from adult living or senior living to assisted living. But it's a huge change. And I also will be getting rid of the dock parking which always triggers my PTSD. That's my announcement to my friends and family here on the worldwide friendship net.
