This is Dean, KG7 ODD. God, I don't know what to say because this net has been quite a, I don't know, it's been pretty exciting. I would say that it started out with Robert and Cammie's check-ins. It just raised the bar to such a level that it either, it has an intimidating factor but it also, I think it makes everybody try to raise their game a little bit. Next station please. KG7 ODD Good evening, good evening. I've got you on the list. Next station please. KG7 KG8 Brian Good evening to you Brian. Nice to hear you and I've got you on the list. You know what, that's the end of that page so I'm going to go ahead and draw a line. Let's head back up to the top of this list and hear from Justin. KK7 Kilo Echo Sierra. I can't read my writing. Tell me if I miswrote it. Over to you Justin. Well hey Kami, this is Justin. KK7 Quebec Echo Sierra. Thank you for writing that out tonight. I hope Paul is well out there. You're doing a wonderful job and thoroughly enjoying all the check-ins. And by the way, I also very much enjoy the Pyrex anecdotes. For what it's worth, I've had both the borosilicate and the soda glass versions. Neither have exploded on me but I think it's one of those things that people get fanatical about. Maybe not fanatical but people say always just splurge for the Pyrex stuff and don't get cheaper borosilicate glass cookware. Because sometimes it does explode apparently. Anyway, pretty mellow evening over here. Tonight was the national night out and some of our neighbors hosted a big get together which was pretty well attended. So that was kind of fun and got to meet some new neighbors that we hadn't met before. And it was pretty cool to see there was about six Kirkland police cars and officers there in a fire truck just parked in the neighborhood as we were walking down. I knew that we were expecting at least one Kirkland police officer. I did not realize they were sending a whole crew so it was pretty cool. The kids loved getting tours of the vehicles and we got to meet our new interim police chief so that was kind of cool. And then after about an hour and a half or so they packed up and got out of there and they were headed to their next neighborhood to go visit. So that was kind of cool making those connections. After that we had some neighbors over to our backyard because they just got a new dog and our dog loves to play and loves to make new friends. So they kind of ran around and went nuts in the backyard together and we all laughed and just hung out. Then I finished watching the Marrier's game a few minutes ago and that's been my night. It's been really just a wonderful mellow Tuesday night. Alright I hope everyone's well out there. Cami thanks again for running the nets. I'll send it back to you. Well that sounds like a really lovely evening. Thank you so much for sharing that with us. I quickly looked up National Night Out and I've seen stuff around posted about it and I just didn't really know that much about it. It says that it's an annual community building campaign held on the first Tuesday of August to promote police community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. It encourages neighbors to get to know each other and their local law enforcement, fostering a stronger sense of community and promoting safety. So that's pretty cool. I'm glad that you were able to participate in that. It sounds like your law enforcement folks did as well. That's awesome. I'll have to put that on my calendar and make sure and participate next year. So thanks for sharing that with us. You take care and have a great rest of your night, all the numbers. Next up we have Joan here from C.W. Joan it's too late for coffee but I've got a liquid ID that I'm drinking at Blackberry Peach Flavor. I'm posting it in your direction. Cheers Governor. How's your evening? Cheers Governor. That's just a little bottle of something. I suppose I should take a token some of it. Just the tiniest. There, I think it was a nip. Anyway, there are a few cop cars blocking the pike path. So then the bicyclist is coming down where they're supposed to go. In the traffic. Oh, they stuck past. There we go. Good. Here comes another bicycle. Also sneaking past the dual police cars. I wonder what's up down there. You know, I almost don't even wonder anymore. Although my duty is to be an observer, my Star Trek cosplay is that I am an archaeologist. There's also my favorite Martian. Remember the Martian was an archaeologist studying Earth. But I have this idea that my fantasy is I've just been sent to the early 21st century to document. I'm a documentarian and I'm documenting the downfall. You know, which led to the, well, I'll just won't go into it. People are familiar with the Star Trek world building. No, that the 21st century was a bad time. Anyway, but besides that, I got on my bicycle today and I rode all the way to the credit union, the BECU credit union, and realized I did not have my debit card. And I just wanted to, you know, check my balance and stuff. So I did, oh yeah, I stopped at the, I checked my mail at the post office and I stopped by the farmer's market and bought some beans, bought two pounds of bean cherries. I love them. This is a really dark red one. And I didn't need to go grocery shopping because I had done that yesterday. But I did go back. I came home and got my debit card and went back. And all I wanted to do was check my transactions. And the last 10 transactions showed me enough for me to feel confident. So I asked to see my last month and they printed it out for me. And it all was in order. And on the way back home, I stopped at Dick's and got some fries and a chocolate shake and then hung out a lot with my friends. And my favorite measuring cup, Cami, is the old capital letter Pyrex measuring cup. But I also have three lowercase, newer Pyrex bowls. I could tell more, but I'll stop. KX2CW, Joan and Broadway, back to that. Joan, I always love hearing about your adventures, Joan. And I can totally relate to getting where you need to go and realizing you forgot the thing that you needed to bring. I do that far more than I care to admit. And I'm just picturing you riding your bike around all of those places down to the market and over to Dick's to get some fries, especially on a beautiful day like today. You keep up the good work documenting. I know that you are a documentarian and that you do a fine job of documenting everything. And not just know what's going on up there on Capitol Hill. Thank you for checking in and thank you for documenting all of this. You take care, 33, and all of the numbers. Oh, and I have a small Pyrex measuring cup too, but I cracked it and I can't bear to get rid of it. So it's just to look at now and not to use. So I'm on the lookout for another one. Have a great rest of your night. Next up we have Peter. How are you doing, Peter? I am a little on the tired side. I was out getting a few things done today, but I need to get some rest. So we have Radio Wave Wednesday tomorrow. And then on Saturday we have Cake, coffee assisted knowledge exchange. So coffee, ham, ham, and the weather's been nice. And we usually get 10 to 15 people show up. So it's always really interesting. And the idea is to go home with some more knowledge. So those are the big events for this week besides all the daily check-ins and nuts going on. Back to you, GE6RAF. Question for you, Peter. I heard you talk about your group before, the Cake group coffee assisted knowledge exchange. And I was curious, the knowledge that you're exchanging, is it mainly radio? Or are you exchanging knowledge on any particular topics? Or is it just really whatever topic people are curious about? Or what's your opinion on that? Basically it's for hams that still work Monday to Friday. And more technical stuff. So it's basically ham related. But other things come up too. Sometimes politics, weather, trips, computer stuff. But basically a ham oriented. Well that makes sense. Thanks for coming back with that. Yeah, I was just curious. It seems as though it's mainly ham radio. But it seems like other topics might come up from time to time as well. Even if you've got that topic of mainly ham radio. Will you take care, Peter? Thanks so much for sharing that. And I hope you have a fantastic Cake meeting and exchange lots of knowledge. 73 to you and all the numbers. Next up we have Mike, KJ7BEU. How are you doing Mike? I'm doing fine. I'm doing fine. I plugged it in and charged and I felt it pulsing and moving late instead of coming on like the other one was. I pulled the bottom off the dust screw and put the battery in the controller for it. And I still have the batteries between the two of them plugged in. The wires over there were being worn on the floor. And it's a battery. It's got a shorter battery so the controller is just you know in protection. I took it home. I've already told you I'll just give you a .8 volt battery. You can put the battery in the note on there. And it's a church. So let's see what else. I voted gay. It took me half an hour to drive there. And as far as the shape, yeah that was my thing. The shape or whatever. Actually I had the wearing one linen suit. I had the hips on clean and a drop for a moment. And I had a chocolate on a chocolate chip sundae. It's good. Actually those are pretty good. Those are pretty good. So that and a cheeseburger on clean and it's like 5th of July. And pretty decent. And it was a night there was a bunch of college graduation stuff. And about half dozen twenty something sat next to me. That was great. I got to ask him if I had, I said I was afraid of looking down at my linen coat, jacket regarding my hot fudge sundae. Was it clean? I was afraid of looking down. Yeah he told me it was good. I like to give a few conversations with everybody, especially women. Redheads are fun. Hey you're a redhead too. Hey you have a good night. Coffee Assistant Knowledge Exchange. We'll see about that. Good night."},{"callsign_confidence":0.94,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-08-09T09:35:01+00:00","id":15473,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":15472,"text":" I'm still K7FW, or WFB. Yeah, my wife just said that she's, after listening to your check-in now, she's hungry. I love visiting Canada, and actually, my, two of my stepchildren just went up there for a concert, actually, in Vancouver a couple days ago. But yeah, the food's good. You know what I told her to bring back, and she forgot, I think, was Coffee Crisp, something we don't get down here, that they have it up there, so. I'm probably dating myself, but I believe, I could be wrong, but I believe I'd remember buying that in the United States many, many years ago, and being disappointed that you can't get it here anymore. Anyway, good stuff, Bill. Have a wonderful weekend, 73, and thanks for stopping by. Next on the list is Madeline, KJ7NUW. Good morning, Madeline. This is repeater station Q. Well, hi, Teresa and Dana. I think Dana's probably there, I don't know. I did tune in a little bit late. But anyway, hello, and hello to everybody on the net. Yeah, it's Madeline, KJ7NUW. I like Canada, too. I hadn't been there for a few years, you know? And went earlier this year and really enjoyed it. So I've been a couple of times. One time, my parents and I went up there just for brunch, really, and to go for a walk, and then I went up for an overnight as well earlier this year, and it's lovely. And I agree, lovely people and absolutely beautiful up there. I mean, it's beautiful here, too, but, you know, it's nice to get away for a weekend and see something new and all that. Well, today, this morning, I am in the process of starting a batch of mustard. I've checked in before and talked about how I really enjoy fermenting things. And so I have this year, and I guess part of last year, but anyway, recently, I've gotten into making some stone-ground mustard, and I do it by fermenting it in a jar. And it works the same way as like, you know, sauerkraut or kimchi or whatever. You know, the naturally occurring bacteria just like kind of, you know, softens it and gives it a really nice flavor and, you know, adds some seasoning to it. And it's a really yummy like kind of stone-ground mustard that I love to have with brisket for some reason. Mustard and brisket together has just like become one of my favorite things. So anyway, I'm getting the batch started today. I bought some at a, I bought some mustard seed at a store called Kalustyan's in Manhattan, New York City. And I'm looking forward to trying this particular mustard seed, so anyway. Okay, with that, I will send it back up to you. Thanks so much for hosting, and a radio wave to my friends out there. I look forward to seeing some of you tomorrow at the Ice Cream Social. KJ7 and UW Madeline back to net. Oh my goodness, you guys are making me hungry. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Dana's looking at me like, yeah, that's it. My mouth is watering, yeah, absolutely. Oh, good stuff, Madeline. You have a wonderful weekend. Thanks for stopping by this morning, and looking forward to seeing you tomorrow at the Ice Cream Social. Okay, next on the list is Dean, KJ7 ODB. Good morning, Dean. Good morning, Teresa and Dana and everybody on the net. This is Dean, KJ7 ODB. Yeah, a couple of things. So, yeah, creating an all-star node from a Raspberry Pi. One of the ways you can do it, though, the way I did it with mine, is it's probably the most bare bones way to do it. It's literally a Raspberry Pi, it's a Raspberry Pi 3, with one that I just had laying around. And I've got this really cheap USB headset that I plug into it. It doesn't have a transceiver hat or anything like that, so it's literally just a Raspberry Pi with the USB headset. But I don't use it that much, and when I'm away on vacation, I'll check in just using a repeater phone on my iPhone. But I found that that's an option, is to just a Raspberry Pi with a cheap USB headset. It actually works. And anyway, other than that, yeah, I haven't been up to Canada since before the pandemic, and I should go up there because it is, you know, whether it's going to Vancouver or just going to some of the outdoor places up there. It's really nice. I have one of those Nexus cards, so I should take advantage of using it. In fact, I haven't used it since the last time I renewed it, so the next time, you know, I'd hate for them to say, well, you don't use this thing, so we're not gonna let you have it. Although one of the reasons I got it at the time, there was a period of time where getting the Nexus card was the cheapest way to get the TSA PreCheck. So it comes with TSA PreCheck and global entry and all that stuff. It was $50 for a while, but I think they've raised it to either like $100 or $120 because it's so popular. Anyway, I look forward to the ice cream social tomorrow. That should be a lot of fun. And so I hear John, KG7WOI, is going to be there. So it almost doesn't matter whether he checks in today on the net like he normally does at 10, 10, but well, I hope he does check in. And hi to everyone out there. Even to Keith in the Wrenton Highlands, who's another one of the stragglers at the end. You know, my favorite person, Rebecca, you know, one was told last night that she is loved by Robert. How about them apples? You know, anyway, it's a beautiful day here, blue sky, not a cloud to be seen, Bob Ross was, put one in the sky with the magic white paint, it just wouldn't appear, and approximately 65 degrees, it's a beautiful day. And, let's see, about 42 percent humidity, and the dew point is 26 degrees. The wind is blowing, approximately 8 miles from the west. Let's see what else. The bromer is reading 30, 66, and steady. It's like a rock, you know. Which brings up the rockin' jock. Excuse me. Dave was at the morning nets on Wednesday. He's the morning net. Dave and his partner, Sam, but that's all I got. We don't have too much. This is TC2-STO. He headed back to deck control. He eats all the good numbers. To ward you, this is TC2-STO. TC2-STO, factor that control. Well thank you so much for checking in, Charlie. I appreciate it. And, yeah, it's great to hear from you, and, you know, the weather reports and everything. Well that's great. Well have a good day, Charlie. 73. This is Rebecca KK7IJZ. Let's keep this net in the middle of the lab. Let's keep this net going. This is the PSRG Noon net on this August 9, 2025. This is Rebecca KK7IJZ. More stations RF and internet. WB7J, this is Rich. Hey Rich, more stations please. K3OE, the other Rich. Yes! I almost automatically wrote down your call sign. K3OE, Rich. I feel like you and Wilco would be, uh, yes. I feel like you and Wilco would be friends. Maybe, uh, maybe that connection can be made. Got you on the list, Rich. K3OE, more stations please. KG7ODD. Oh, I see a little bit of a shimmer from the lights. But anyway, we don't have a whole lot going on tonight. So earlier you were talking about the Simplex net, and you said something about visitors at the end. Well, actually, the Simplex net, there are no visitors. It's kind of a free for all. Usually, actually always, the net controller will usually go from A to M, do a portion of the alphabet with your suffix. So as ODB, I would be in the second half. And sometimes it's done in thirds. Anyway, yeah, so there isn't any roll call or anything like that. But yeah, the Simplex net is great. I always try to use different radios each time to kind of mix it up and see how a certain radio will work with a certain antenna. So you think you've got, let's say, four radios and four antennas. You've got 16 combinations. And then if you say, well, I'm going to try only five watts this week compared with, let's say, 50 watts the week before, you can kind of mix it up a bit. And then you can hear all the different. There are people you hear every week who are coming in really clear, which is really nice because if there is a, I don't know, some kind of disaster, you know those are the people you're going to be able to reach. So it's good practice. And another thing I try to do is go on battery power when I do the Simplex net. Not that it really matters, but it's just one other thing to do. Anyway, don't have any big plans for the weekend. Kind of nice is last week was there was a picnic. So there was a lot hanging over that weekend. And then next weekend is the ice cream social. So this one hopefully will be nice and quiet. Although there are the Blue Angels, so I don't know how quiet it's going to be. Thanks for doing the net tonight. And good evening to everyone else listening. This is Dean, KG7ODD. I don't have too much to add, although Rebecca, as she mentioned, we got together. Rebecca, Matt, KI7UEF and I, we met up on Capitol Hill and went out and had ice cream and coffee and just hung out. It's always good to get those eyeball quesos. We even tried to find Joan. We were standing down near the Ginny Hendricks statue. And so Matt tried to reach her on the radio, but to no avail, but probably some other time. And then before I took the light rail back up to near North Seattle, where I live, I took a little walk on Broadway. I went into Spin Cycle Records and looked through the store there. There's a pretty good vinyl record store, which is a lot of fun. Yeah, I guess it was a pretty good day. So anyway, thanks for doing the net. I hope Brian's doing well. KG7ODD. Thank you, Dean. You're standing good. Sounds like you had a good Sunday. Yeah, the weather yesterday and today suited me just fine. I'm fine with this just kind of pleasantly just warm, a little bit overcast, not too hot. So I've enjoyed the weather yesterday and today and it sounds like you did as well. Yeah, Joan, she comes off of the nets and then usually she drops off and gets on with two other activities. So it's hard to catch her when she's monitoring. But don't forget, we've got the show on Monday night coming up soon. All right. Thank you, Dean. Let's see if we have some other check ins. Come ahead and name a call. Yeah, November five, America. Quick back to Mike. 10-5-8-2-M. Mike and Chandler. Good evening. Got you there, Chandler, Mike. Come ahead and N5-8-2-M. Let's go ahead and get your report. Good evening, 10 Internet N5-8-2-M. Mike here and Chandler. We're back to Scorchville. We had a couple of weeks, we had like two weeks where it was really nice. Very unseasonable temperatures, really low. Now we're back to the 110s, the 115s. We had lows in the low 70s for a couple of weeks, overnight temperatures. It was just lovely. We were just loving it. But anyway, not much else to report. I was out at the model field all weekend flying early in the morning. It's really nice. It's okay in the morning. But it really warms up quick. So we're out of there by about 11, 11.30. So, out of the model field. But anyway, not much else going on here. The bands of the HF Vans still aren't very good. It's kind of a bummer. But I'm plinking away here, doing my best on FTE8. So thank you again and thanks for having me. N5-8-2-M. Thank you Mike. Coming in really good there. And yeah, the HF Vans got some spot activities, sort of scrubs and all that activity pretty much. But, yeah, G8 getting through and getting some results. So I gave you some idea what the propagation is. Alright, thank you for that check-in. Let's see if we have any other check-ins. This is Tim, K7-CEI. Coming in at name and call. This is repeater station Kilo Kilo 7, November Quebec November. Call star node 6222. Located in Shelton, Washington. This is Dean, KG 7 ODB. Yeah, so I am across from Bitter Lake. Earlier I was considering walking over there and putting my toe in the water. I did that one time. You may have heard it a couple years back on one of Ben's nets because he'd always joked about how are you in Bitter Lake or are you at Bitter Lake. So I went over there and I just had the toe of my boot just barely in the water. I checked and I go, I'm in Bitter Lake. But I didn't do that. But one of these nights I'll do it. Hopefully before the end of the summer. But yeah, so I'm sorry to hear about Matt's grandfather. Here's the thing. You know when everybody unfortunately goes through situations like that and when it happens you tend to think that you're alone, you're isolated with it. But we all have been there. So you know, as Matt got on here and we're to talk about it more, I think there's a lot of people who would support him. And also, yeah, you know, in his line of work, I can imagine having to deal with these people who are really, really stressed out. You know, like the flight attendants or the people at the gate when somebody's late for their flight or whatever. But I've had a couple of occasions where I've just been nice to those people. I found it's easier than you think to talk your way into an upgrade or at least a better seat just by treating the gate attendant, whatever their official title is, and help them. So anyway, that's all I got. I think I'll probably go over to the Lake Washington event tomorrow. And Blythe Park is right near the Yakima Fruit Market. So that probably means that James might show up. We'll see. Oh, one other thing real quick. I always hear Jeff do his squirrel report, but I haven't heard him mention Fred the Crow recently. But once Campbell checked in I figured it was fair game. So you're stuck with me now. Anyway I went to the antique radio swap meet today at Shoreline Community College. And I didn't buy anything. I mean there were some things that were really interesting. But I was prepared if something really cool popped up. Whether it be like a radio that's really cheap. There were a lot of people who sell vinyl records there. But there wasn't anything that really stood out. I think a lot of people who sell records at these things, they kind of know what the going rate is for certain albums. So you don't always find that really great deal. But anyway I was still on the lookout for it. But there were a bunch of people we know there like Jack was there. Oh, I probably shouldn't mention names. I'll just help forget somebody. So Rich K3OE, Bob KF7 SPA, he was there. Kirk, Alpha Golf 7 Yankee Mike. And oh, Mac, I don't know her call sign. I didn't actually get a chance to talk to her. But I saw her. She seemed to be really enjoying. There was this talk where they were talking about, in one of the classrooms they were talking about basically ancient calculators that were like basically the size of a, they were huge going back to the early 60s. But anyway it was a lot of fun. And I was still back in my brains just making sure I didn't forget anybody. This is Dean, KG7 ODD. Well, I'm dealing with trying to figure out the future of my car. As I mentioned on the net last night, yesterday I drove over one of those, it's like a manhole cover thing that was sticking up maybe a little bit too high, high enough to puncture my oil pan underneath my car. So I immediately lost all my oil. And so the light came on and I, it took me about a minute or so to find a place where I could pull over and turn the car off. Right at the moment I'm pulling over I could feel that the power of the car, I could definitely feel something was going on. And unfortunately, I've done quite a bit of research online and I mentioned it on the net last night and I've gotten a few emails too. It looks kind of 50-50 as to whether my engine might be completely ruined by this. To add to it, so it's a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta diesel. And I was hoping well maybe diesels aren't as bad in this kind of situation, but actually they're worse when they lose the oil, which for technical reasons I won't get into. So my car is over at my mechanic's in the parking lot there and I have today to think about it. And I think what I'm going to do is have my mechanic look at it. And it was Chris. KK7HCD had a, one of the things he mentioned is they could look inside the oil filter and see if there are any metal shavings or pieces of debris that could indicate that the engine was damaged. Because what I don't want to do is spend what I believe to be around $700 to put a new oil pan on it. And then I need to do that and find out the engine is also toast. Because there are so many other things wrong with that car that it's just not economically feasible to do an engine rebuild on a car where if somebody, I get into a fender bender and it's totaled just because of the Blubik value even in good shape is probably only about like $1,000. So anyway, I have one other quick thing I'm going to drop."},{"callsign_confidence":0.98,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-09-01T12:35:32+00:00","id":29874,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":29873,"text":" Good afternoon Kirk and everybody on the net. This is Dean KG70DB. Yeah, it's like a lot of people seem to have fun with that second letter in there. Is it a G or is it a J? And yeah, I guess my call sign is kind of a nightmare just because it's got all these D's and B's. Like if I'm not doing phonetics like on HF, it's just really hard to get through. But you know, I've had it for so long that I always tell people when I'm helping with ham radio classes, if you want to get a vanity call sign, do it soon. After a few years it starts to become a little bit harder. So anyway, other than that, also interesting Labor Day, they have a holiday for workers but everybody gets the day off. It's kind of like having a food appreciation day and yet everybody fasts. You know what I mean? So yeah, it's been an interesting couple of days. I won't go over the whole story but I've mentioned on the last couple of nets that yesterday the underside of my car had a mishap with an object on the ground and my oil pan was punctured. So I lost all the oil in my car and it's now towed over to my mechanic and I'll have him look at it tomorrow or at his convenience next week and see if my engine was damaged during this whole, even though it was only for like a minute, it can really damage your engine if you drive it at all after you lose all your oil and the lights go on. So the oil light went on. But yeah, it's making me sort of supercharge my search for a new car. I've been planning on getting something different for a while so I might have to do it sooner than I was expecting. But I've gotten used to renting cars for longer trips. Like when I go down to visit my sister in Portland, especially during the winter, I'll just rent a car and I've found ways of doing that. Because there aren't too expensive. I go through the Costco car rental launch program, whatever that's called. Anyway, hope everyone's enjoying their Labor Day. You know, it's funny, my step daughter, the youngest daughter in the family has a car that we just took to the shop to get some work done to it and they kind of said the same thing. It's either, you know, here at that crossroads, a threshold between do you put more money into it or do you just kind of keep it going long enough to find something to replace it with. Yeah, so that's interesting. But hey, you have a wonderful weekend and I hope your car is running well, I'll just say that. 73D, KG7ODD, KG7AII. Last but not least on this round, I've got a station from Canada, Victor Echo 3, Foxtrot, Bravo X-Ray. Hey, how are you doing this morning? This is VE3FBX. I'm doing great. It's afternoon for me. Just relaxing, had to run out and do some calls for work this morning. Now I'm just chilling at home playing with some locally hosted AI. Hopefully everybody is having a great weekend. I'm just going to hang out and listen to everybody, see how everybody is doing. This is Dean, AT7, ODB. Well, I'm going to be heading over to the Willmott Gateway Park in a little while. And hopefully there are still people there when I get there. I mean usually there, even when it ends, which I think is at 1230, there's still a few stragglers or hangars on who are still there. So it will be good to see everyone who I know is there as well as a lot of the Lake Washington people. Anyway, hopefully I'll see you guys over there if you happen to make it. If you're listening and everybody else on the net this is Dean KG7ODD. So let me see today I went over to the Lake Washington rain or shine event and when Sean checked in before it made me realize that there was no YL Posse representation there today but it was still a great event. Just a lot of people always say this but I don't want to mention anybody's name because I will forget somebody but it was great. David the new operator who was number one I don't believe I met him I did see a few people that I didn't recognize but I probably should have said something so anyway hopefully I'll meet him at some other event but yeah afterwards I went out to dinner with or late lunch I should say because it was still late to McMinimins with Cami and Robert and I had some shrimp gumbo which was really good and then after that I went so I brought my IC705 with me and I went to a parking lot at Shoreline Community College and set it up because what I wanted to do is I wanted to see if I could get this app called SDR control that's on my iPhone and what it is is it connects to certain iCom radios and with it you can make FDA contacts and all these features but they added slow scan TV to it so I didn't make any transmissions but I picked up three different SS TV slow scan TV photographs from 20 meters of 14.230 so I mean you just sit there and you let these little pictures come in there's one that has a red car on it and another one which has some kind of mountain display and it's just kind of cool seeing those come in so I want to make sure I get it right because I wasn't quite sure how to add my call sign or if I just need to make a jpeg with information already embedded in it but I think this implementation in SDR control might be kind of new so it might not have all the features like adding being able to add text to existing photographs so anyway that was fun checking that out and yeah it was my IC705 with my buddy sick pro which was working very well and I made a few FDA contacts too. KG7 ODB back to Matt. KG7 ODB K7 WSB. Thanks Dean. I got a couple of questions for you. I've done just a tiny bit of SS TV the stuff that comes down from the International Space Station and just you know recorded the audio and played it into a decrypter on my phone and by the way you probably know but for others the ISS they're going to be doing that again next weekend I think starting Friday I don't remember exactly what time but they're going to do two sessions I think Friday Saturday and then Sunday Monday I think they're going to do six new images I believe from the ISS if you're interested you guys can just google that and it'll pop right up I am sure but my question for you Dean is um it never occurred to me there was other stuff around particularly HF how do you know where to go how did you know 14.230 was the place to go"},{"callsign_confidence":1.0,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-10-05T22:20:56+00:00","id":54470,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":54469,"text":" Thanks Brian. Yeah, so I guess Gregory kind of piqued a lot of people's interest with his comments. Not necessarily about the White Album, which I mean the White Album is a great album. I remember hearing it for the first time when I was a kid. But at first I was thinking, okay, I should just give Gregory an album or two to consider, which I'm going to. But my main point is that I always really like to sort of live vicariously through people who discover an album for the first time. It's like you can never hear an album for the first time yourself. Sometimes that's the initial experience. I mean there are albums that are always good, but I'm somewhat jealous sometimes. Like on YouTube, there are all these channels where it's literally people being given suggestions to listen to songs. And you see their reactions to it. Like this one young woman was just crying when she played Time by Pink Floyd. And it was just so moving. I didn't feel it was staged. But anyway, I guess a couple albums, especially if Gregory likes really hard rock, but he also liked The Beatles, maybe he should consider... I'm going to give two albums. One is from right around the same time, and that's another double album, Electric Ladyland by the Jimi Hendrix Experience. And another one, which I think is just an absolute masterpiece double album, is Quadrophenia by The Who. Anyway, you can email me and I would probably, if he likes either of those, on the net just come on and mention things. I'm sure so many of us have some great suggestions. I'm glad Paul came on and mentioned John Prine. Sgt. Pepper, of course, is a great album. If he likes The Beatles, obviously Revolver, Rubber Soul, they're all really great. Anyway, KG7ODD, back to the net."},{"callsign_confidence":0.94,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-10-18T09:54:54+00:00","id":63279,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":63278,"text":" Good morning Teresa and Dana and everybody on the net. This is Dean KG7 ODD. My day has been disrupted by John KG7 WOI checking in earlier. I don't know. It was great to hear him. Hear him early. And I hope he enjoys the Husky game. But it messed me up a little bit. I just must say. A lot of interesting topics this morning. Yeah the Mariners last night getting that grand slam near the very end. Yeah I got to agree with Brooks. Rick Rizz is a really great announcer. Total pro. If you don't have. If you're not able to get a game on television. There are some people who just elevate the game a little more than others. Rick is one of those. Yeah this idea of being a snowbird. As I get closer to retirement. That's something I think about all the time. While I do have a little bit of a foothold in Arizona. My sister lives in Phoenix. I'm not sure if I want to live down there. Just because. Well I spend too much time because it is a little bit hot. But I have found the more I go down there. I do get used to the heat after a certain amount of time. In fact I found myself when I was down there last time. Like a hundred and three. I was just like sweating. She's lived there for like twenty years. I was going this isn't really too bad. I think the thing that makes me the most nervous is hearing about the electricity bills. That people have down there. When these several hundred dollars a month for air conditioning. I'm leaning more towards the idea of taking more extended. When I get to retirement. Extended trips like two weeks here. Two weeks there. Doing an airbnb thing every once in a while. But yeah. Anyway good to hear you back. So yeah, it sounded like you had a pretty good time down there. I haven't spent a whole lot of time in New Mexico. I did pass through it on the way back from going to see the eclipse about a year and a half ago. And I did do a Parks on the Air activation at a place called Santa Rosa Lake, which is in like Northeastern New Mexico. And that was a lot of fun. It's a song called Mull of Kintyre by Paul McCartney and Wings, and it was a huge hit in Great Britain. And it was released in the US, but it was the B-side of the song called Girls' School. And it wasn't on any album. I think it might be a bonus cut on the London Town reissue, but it just came out as a single. But yeah, it's interesting because you think the Beatles, one of the biggest groups ever, but a solo song from Paul McCartney sold more copies than She Loves You or Hey Jude or any of the Beatles songs. It's just interesting. Yeah, it's a good song. It's kind of this, I don't know, this sort of waltz-like thing with this big bagpipe ending at the end. So yeah, for whatever reason it just never really caught on in the US. I mean at the time I think people were getting more into edgier things like punk and stuff like that. But yeah, the Mull of Kintyre by Paul McCartney and Wings. I think the biggest selling song now is Elton John, Candle in the Wind after Princess Diana passed away. He did that new version of it, and I think that's the song that he clips it. But anyway, I had to throw a little music trivia in there, KG7 ODD. KG7 ODD by Paul McCartney"}]}
