We would love, if you can wait until the 73 round, that would be great. But yeah, I know what you're saying, you got out of the hobby and came back and you know it's amazingly more common than you would think. A lot of stations I've talked to on digital and HF were amateur radio operators that had to get out of the hobby for some reason or another and ended up coming back so that's pretty common and I'm glad you're back. And you know you're right, I mean it's amateur radio, I guess it's a service and a hobby. But luckily we don't have to use it as a service very often and so it's mostly a hobby most of the time. But it's actually a whole ton of hobbies within a hobby. You know, you get started on HF, UHF and kind of figure out the repeaters and then you've got to learn, you're constantly having to learn new modes, new bands, all that stuff. So to me, it's a whole ton of hobbies within a hobby and so we'll come back to you on the 73 round, we'd love to hear your announcement. Richard, thanks for being here, we sure do appreciate it. KF5SSR, KN5Y, over to you Jeanette. This is repeater station Kilo Kilo 7.0. KF5SSR, Richard. The reason you don't hear me saying it every single time is because honestly it is not as required in digital as it is when you're on HF because here they can find you. But there it's pretty hard so a lot of people get away with a lot of stuff on regular HF and I've heard it, I'm sure you've heard it. So they're tough, that's where they're really strict at. Here they're a little bit more lenient and I try to make it more friendly. I call everybody by their call sign but I try not to be too strict on it but I've not gotten into any trouble over that yet. But anyway, it's good to get into the habit of doing it so when you get on HF you're supposed to identify every time on HF. Anyway, but don't worry about that. Let's go to KJ5F0X, Chad. Chad has been a ham and we've really enjoyed having you. So what's new with you? What got you interested in amateur radio? And if you'd like to tell us a little bit about your journey. Fox, come on."},{"callsign_confidence":0.98,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-08-02T17:05:11+00:00","id":13625,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":13624,"text":" KJ5FOX, yeah, so I think that's what started it all, was just being able to be more prepared in communication. And I mentioned the Morse code and the Winlink. On my shopping list, I've got a IC705 that I'd really like to have. I think they're a little pricey. It's a pretty small VHF, UHF, HF radio. It'll work with Winlink. I think they'd be a really nice radio to have with you all the time. So being prepared. I think that's it. Now, since I've been in, there's a world of things with a ham radio that I want to play with. But I think that's how it started. And it's always in the back of my mind, is just being prepared. Well, actually I got my novice in 1964 and my general in 1965. We had the School for the Blind in Nebraska had a piece of property out that they had picnics and stuff at. So we were out there and somebody had a pair of walkie talkies and they were CB walkie talkies. So I started playing around with that and somebody, I just said, anybody copy this station? And somebody came back and said, yeah, can you guess where I'm from? And he said, Greenland. And after that I couldn't leave the radio alone. So other than that, but everything was so different, you know. When I got my ticket in 1965, I was out there and when I first got started with field day and all that kind of stuff, you had to build your own tuna fish can receiver and transmitter. So that was part of it, that was true preparation. And it ain't that way no more. Anyway, that's mine. Whiskey Alpha Zero Tango Alpha X Ray. W80TAX KF5Y Hank, that's pretty cool right there. I think my first contact was KF5LBTG right across the subdivision on a local repeater and I'll never forget it. I couldn't believe it when somebody came back and said, I'm from the North Carolina area. I was just sitting there and I was like, I don't know if somebody answered me, but I can't imagine getting an answer from Greenland. I can see why you never put that microphone down or that key. I know you like doing that too. We're going to work on CW Morse code there. Hank, I promise you, I just got busy. And, God, it's a struggle, but I'm not giving up. So Hank, thanks for being here. And I'm going to turn it over to the KF5SSR. Jeanette, go ahead. Thank you, Hank. W80TAX, the tax man. Hey, Hank, yeah, we are definitely going to get with you with the CW. But, you know, Mike did a clean sweep on the 13 colonies and I think 10 of them or something were done in CWs. He definitely knows more than, has done way more than me, so I'm behind. But that's just natural. Anyway, Hank, thank you for being here. And KC7YFE Dale, how about you? How you doing? And how's everything going? And what got you interested in amateur radio? It reminds me of my childhood. And I love Alabama. We get out to Birmingham a lot. I've only been to Huntsville one time and it was because we couldn't get into Asheville and we had to drop into Huntsville. That's the only time we've ever been there. But that's an awesome story there. And maybe sometimes you can tell us a little bit about Huddle, Texas, but I'll tell you what, if you need to run and hunt for that dog, we totally understand because we know how we love our pets. And I've done that before, years ago, when we have all cats now, but when I did have dogs, we had a tornado come through and blew the fence down. And I didn't notice the dog being gone until the next day and hunted for two days and found him down at the, one of the dog pounds and so found him there. But I hate to hear that you're still looking for your dog, but thanks for all that Chad. And I'm going to turn it over to Jeanette, KF5 SSR, she might have a tip for you on an app that she uses to find pets. And any other questions she might have, KF5 SSR, over to you, KF5Y. Thank you, KF5Y. I will tell you Birmingham, I really, I really love it there. I mean, I've been there. I thought it was really nice and enjoyed it. And I do want to welcome you to the litter box lounge for a time to be here. Yeah, do you have, there is an app called Next Door and that Next Door app is everywhere. And it is a great place if you have lost a pet to get on there with the picture and what it does, if it just goes to your area. So it's going to ask you, you know, I think you have to put your real name and basically it's a bonus if you've got animals. So also when people find animals, they put them on their cats. So I don't know, do you have the Next Door app? And I know you're in Hutto, but how about the, you know, you're so close to San Antonio, I've been there too. And I know there's Alamo. Anyway, I'm sure you've been there, but yeah. I want to ask you about the pet app, the Next Door app. So it's really good for that. I promised to make this short. So yesterday, after all the drama, we went out and I said, let's fish. So I threw my line out and I had just left it out for a little bit. And when I tried to pull it in, it was like hard. It felt like it was in a fish's mouth, a big fish. So I started wheeling it and I said, oh, this one's good. We're going to have to get the net, Mike. And so I said, he's coming, he's coming. And so Mike is standing there with the net and he goes to net it and it turns out to be a big old rock. So I caught myself a rockfish and we were both laughing and I said should I take a picture with it? That was my first rockfish so I just had to show that. KF5SSR back to you."},{"callsign_confidence":1.0,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-12-23T14:57:50+00:00","id":90644,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":90643,"text":"Thank you Graham and yeah KM5Y does a great job.
