You did have the call sign correct, November Uniform India. And yeah, I was wondering if the AWS average was going to come up. I wish I had been on Monday evening. I'm sure that was quite interesting and amusing. I'm sure lots of other techies out there in the radio land. Yeah, so being a DevOps engineer and infrastructure engineer, when I started up my current job as a little tiny startup, we had everything in US East One. And my recommendation is we should not build any new stuff here. Let's slowly move stuff away. So I felt pretty vindicated with recommending that, just being an old and overloaded region. The reason I bring up outages is that the outage – I guess there were widespread outages with Comcast Xfinity on Wednesday – yeah, yesterday morning. And so I had no internet. Even T-Mobile, I think their backhaul was down or something, so the phone data was crawling. I was super bored. I'm like, you know what? I should bust out the old ham radio and dust it off. I have a 2-meter mobile radio, put it set up on my desk, and I can plug it into a power pack with a 12-volt DC output. So that got me back on air. It's kind of interesting to hear all the chat. I'm also watching the voters go to see things pick up. Anyway, I guess the silver lining of these outages is it connects us to different kinds of technology that are more resilient. So go radio. Anyway, 73 is out there, KE7 in UI. I had not heard about Comcast, etc., T-Mobile hiccups that apparently were on Wednesday, I think you said. But I was noticing for work I have to use a computer that's sort of tethered to my phone for internet when I'm out and about. And I was noticing all kinds of trouble with that that I just could not explain. And maybe you just explained it. So thank you very much. I appreciate that. Maybe other people are having that realization as well. And yeah, I think I was just thinking to myself, I used to work from home almost all the time. And yeah, things like that were always a great opportunity to turn on the radio or check out Meshtastic or whatever. And that is, I guess, one frustration of having to run around a little bit more. I feel like I'm a little bit farther away from those things and at least where I was through most of this week. It's on the other side of security, so I can't actually just bring in big old radio equipment. Anyway, I can't even bring in a bag of cashews. Anyway, Arthur, pleasure to hear from you. Thank you so much. And yeah, I would have liked to hear a little bit more about outages back on Monday as well. All right, we have three more stations left on this list. I have a nano NVA I bought a while ago and haven't really used yet. I have radio stuff all over my desk. I'm actually learning how exactly to use it. I have lots of wire and an SDR even though I don't yet have an HF rig. I'm hoping with the SDR I can get a sufficient antenna to hear something on HF. I don't know, 10 meter, 20 meter, something like that. I might be a little wet to go up on the roof and put something up, but I have some trees I could definitely rig something up between. It should drug on yesterday. That's how that goes So what did I do? yesterday And in getting in the mail today, I bought a slingshot The first time I've owned a slingshot since I was 14. Why did I buy a slingshot ham radio? Of course? So I am as I mentioned In a previous net or might have been the noon one on Saturday something like that Even though my rigs are just VHF UHF. I have an SDR that I want to try some RX only Hf Experimentation and since I have these Douglas fir trees in my yard. I'm going to try to make a dipole antenna to feed it and all that Should be pretty interesting but gals of trees have no low branches No real high ones you to which I think once I get it up and suspended will be great But getting up getting that up there will be the challenge You guys gave me an idea maybe I should train our cat to climb up there and suspend it I don't think he would be able to do that. His name is Jack also by the way good name So the slingshot it is wish me luck and once I get it up and running all I'll have to do a report Unfortunately, it's our x only but that will still be a lot of fun since I upgraded my license to general few years ago Still haven't activated on a chef. So until I Here make some friends with HF gear and hang out in person The SDR will be a good way to play with it get familiarity with the band. I think there's about I don't know a hundred 130 feet between the two trees I measured everything in meters except that one I used Google or to guess I don't really have a good way to measure the horizontal run, but So once I'm at a good stopping point with work Since it's still sunny out. I'm going to actually put up Probably a 40 meter, so I'm looking forward to that that should be lots of fun With regards to the repeater roundabout I just reloaded the map and I'm still hoping that more repeaters show up in between North Bend and Wenatchee I see there's one over by Ellensburg I'm definitely going to Attempt to hit I there's probably no reason I shouldn't be able to hit that pretty welcome cle Lm and blew it past But yeah, not not a lot out there. Good morning Arthur. How are you doing this morning? This is repeater station kilo kilo. Hello. Good morning to the net. All star node 62. Yes indeed. Here's a cheer to having lights not just for the winter but all year round. I have a pretty cool set of those rope lights that are different colors. I love how I can change their mode to different things. They have certain color combinations. Obviously there's the red, white, and green Christmas mode. And there's a 4th of July mode. And there's obviously red, red, and blue. And there's a mode that seems to be like, I'm going to call it Cinco de Mayo slash Thanksgiving. It has kind of pastels. So that was the theme I set last month. And then there's kind of a more spring, a similar one for Easter I guess. But yeah, it's kind of interesting how holidays get colors associated with them. We had a purple for Halloween. And we actually had a discussion recently about why purple has become a Halloween color. And so I guess part of the whole being re-marketed towards being a family holiday and little kids and all that. But yeah, I'm just kind of working. And I needed a social break from GitHub actions. Yes, I've been in the CICD land. And I'm sure a few of you out there are chuckling because you've probably dealt with CICD which is having computers build your software and run all the tests and things like that. Which a lot of the stuff would be much easier if you didn't need security to keep the bad guys out. But obviously security requires a lot of tooling and tokens and things like that, checkouts of short-lived tokens, all that stuff that kind of makes it into a little bit harder of a configuration when you're doing it right. But I guess that's why we get paid to do what we do in tech land. But yes, otherwise I'll be daydreaming about things on the radio and hopefully get to the noon net which I've been missing the last couple days being busy with all the things. I did get to co-work with one of my co-workers. My friend from Wenatchee was here in the area yesterday. Of course we got pretty distracted by watching the video of the levee breach in Tukwila. I'm glad that wasn't worse. That could have been obviously really bad. And I know they evacuated a lot of the area causing a massive traffic snarling. So my apologies to anybody who was affected by that. But yeah, not fun. Here's to the levels going down. I haven't looked at the forecast today. Maybe it'll be – I'm not sure if it'll be better or worse. But good luck to everybody out there commuting and living in those areas. So that's my report. Have a great Tuesday everybody. Second birthday for all good, 73th of them at KE-7 in UI. happy birthday to the station manager. Scritches all around there and very cool you know you brought up a good point because Shawnee alluded to it as well as like part of the the best things about the repeater roundabout is getting it's that motivation to get those repeaters programmed in because you know if we hit some emergency or something like that you do want to make sure that you've got multiple avenues of communication on repeater systems and whatnot and so yeah it's That's a good reminder to get the radios programmed and stuff because you're not going to be able to do that on the fly as most people see the software can be so problematic or the learning curve etcetera. And some of these radios are almost impossible to program them manually without the software so very cool. Glad you got that going and made some contacts there while coming back from Wenatchee and glad you made it back safe. So thanks for the report Arthur we'll catch you down the log. Go ahead. Hello, Jack. I'm the net. Yes. I was stuck in a meeting until 1255 camping to get out and See if I can hear you guys talk about repeat around about because it was a lot of fun this weekend. It was my first contest on radio and Really enjoyed it. It was definitely an an exercise of some brain cells coordinating, writing down call sign sheet while trying to listen and figure out signal reports and all that. And then jumping from that to programming the mobile rigs. Since we were going to Wenatchee Saturday evening and coming back the next morning, I doubled it with that and gave a really good excuse to program the mobile rigs which I have never done on the computer. I've just manually put a few repeaters in, so that was good. I am happy that the mobile rig has lots of repeaters. I actually need to add some that weren't participating, but that's now going to be easy to do. Unfortunately, I was not able to successfully make contact with the Ellensburg, the Moses Lake, or the two twist repeaters. Even though I tried quite a bit, I had my wife and I took turns driving and I had her drive wall going up Blewitt Pass. I figured the top of Blewitt Pass would be a good area for that. I did get some static in the response. I don't know if it was an automated echo or something, but I couldn't make it out from the Ellensburg two meter repeater, but that's all right. Also, there just may not have been a lot of people on there. I did traffic on some North Bend repeaters later on Sunday morning. But yeah, unfortunately with family stuff I wasn't able to get back on repeater roundabout, except for a few that I didn't successfully make acknowledgements from. But yeah, we'll be submitting that. And just had a lot of fun doing that. Thanks so much for the organizers of that and all the other fun contests that happen on radio. They make the hobby that much more fun. Yes, here in East Renton Highlands, or I should say Raintown Islands. Yep, same weather. And yeah, a manual car is a good way to keep mine. I learned originally on a stick here. but yeah, she just didn't want to learn, so I did all the driving, that's okay. I love driving stick, especially on the Autobahn. But originally I was going to update with my HF stuff I was on last week. Talking about the dipole I was building, and yeah, I've been playing around with mostly 20 meter, because that's the dipole that ended up being the most successful, although these seems a little better, although I'm supposed to be working during the day, so it's been a little bit distracting, but that's okay. Also, some really good web SDRs have some great HF antennas that are much, much better than what I have. So that's been kind of fun playing around with that. But, yeah, last night I got my VHF antenna hooked back up so I can now participate back in the nets and hang out with local friends. It shows you the different models, which is pretty cool. This morning, the NAMM, the North American model, looked like pretty scary, like really bad, and it's gotten a lot better. However, there's another model, the Rapid Refresh. I forget what the H is, but that one has worsened, I guess, but it's showing like a much tighter concentrated storm It looks like it's going to blow through in just a couple of hours, about 12 to 1,400 local time. But yes, winds, that could be around 60, maybe a little more miles an hour. And Port Townsend, that area looks like it has the worst of it. So good luck to everybody in the area. I guess storms and power outages is something It does happen this time of year, and I guess it makes amateur radio that much more interesting when that happens. Thinking back to the beginning of October when we had an 18-hour power outage here is what got me back into the hobby after kind of neglecting in the last few years. So I guess silver lining's there. Today, actually last night, I mentioned setting up mesh-tastic nodes, and I ended up, right after the net, getting out an SDR and debugging what was going on there. And indeed, one of these six-year-old Haltech V2 dev boards is apparently broadcasting at 490 kilohertz higher than it should be. So adjusting the frequency in the software made everything just work, which is pretty cool, and I guess a good use of an SDR for a diagnostic tool. So that's, I guess, a nerd cred point in my bucket there. So today I got a newer Haltech V4 that came in the mail and flashed it. So I've noticed that inside my office here, I really can't get to anything outside the mesh, or outside the local area into the greater mesh. Collier line going up 28 meters in one of my tall Douglas for trees for the dipole. So I put the new board in one of those gelato containers that sealed shut pretty well, drilled a hole, mounted the antenna in that, and tied it around the hotline and raised it up. And yeah, it gets a whole lot of repeaters. So that's great. I'm now on regional mesh for mesh network. So I look forward to having some fun with that. And anyway, that's 73 to the net, KE7 in UI.
Hello Rebecca and that good morning. Yes, Katie seven in UI. Maybe I should have a moniker nerds using induction It's a pretty good one, right? The yeah, thanks for mentioning the radio club of Tacoma. I as of yet have Been I think I've heard of them, but I haven't Check them out, but I just looked up the clubhouse that you were talking about and wow Wow, that's like four blocks from where I grew up next to Franklin Elementary School, so I'm definitely interested in going down there and checking that out. I have cousins in Tacoma, so I should probably visit them more often anyway. I'm up near Issaquah, east of Renton. Yeah, so that's a good reason to get down there. That would be fun to check out. Yesterday, I finally got my big 40-meter dipole project, the homebrew dipole that I mentioned earlier in the week that I was doing and fighting the rain to get halyard lines strung up. And the last couple days of clear weather has been really good. So yeah, I have this 40-meter dipole way up in these Paul Douglas furs, 28. I measured it 28 meters up, at least at the high end. So that's pretty cool. the ballad in the middle is kind of drooping down, so I'll figure that out. But it seems pretty good. I think that's going to change with the holidays coming up, I'm told. So that's something I'm looking forward to. Hey, maybe I can pick up Papa Whiskey Bravo's pirate radio somewhere. I'm curious what band. It's an illusion to be interesting, since I can listen to all kinds of fun on the HF bands now. now so yeah good times and it is a fun hobby indeed i'm really glad all those averages in september or october have gotten me back into the hobby all right plus 73 so that everyone have a great thursday ke7 in ui well i do like your mnemonic ke7 i like uh nerds under the influence too Well, yeah. Well, cool. Yeah, totally. Check out the Radio Club in Tacoma. It's a reason to, I guess, hang out with cousins. I don't know. It's whatever. It's so much fun. It's always jam-packed and full of ham radio folks, and they're all so nice. And there's donuts and snacks and coffee and cokes in the fridge, and there's always frozen pizza in the freezer. yeah it's great it's so great and on the last Saturday of the no third this is the third Saturday or the last Saturday anyway on the last Saturday of the month chef Paul makes food so they'll feed you lunch too and he either makes chili dogs or spaghetti and it's all free so yeah and it's a lot of fun and people definitely turn out for that. And you get to hang out with Nathan. Nathan and his dad always go. Yeah, W7BUG. Nathan always goes too. You can talk to him about bugs. But great, have a wonderful day and yeah, welcome back to the hobby. Woo hoo! Radio, radio. 7-3, Good day. Next on the list is Jack, KI7RMU. Good morning Jack. This is repeater station kilo kilo seven November Quebec November. Well good morning Rebecca. Nice to hear you. Nice to hear everybody else too. Well while I've been listening to the net this morning I've got a couple of things all built up and I'm going to go over them as quickly as I can so I don't exceed my three minute time limit. First one is speaking of the Radio Club of Tacoma next year they'll be celebrating 110 years since their formation 1916 was the year there's a very famous picture of their board the original board that put together the entire thing back in the day and they're all sitting there in their beautiful black and white photo with their ties and fancy suits and their long beards and their big mustaches and they look like they're having the time of their life. Now if that ever becomes a reality for PSRG, I'll have to drop out. I don't have a fancy tie or a big mustache, but anyway, that is really interesting. So yes, happy, happy almost 110 years Radio Club at Tacoma. Speaking of Matt, KI6 KTE, he is going to be joining the PSRG net hosting team on the 27th of November so hopefully he'll have a couple of days of rest after the repeated roundabout and he'll be joining us for the every other alternating Thursdays with Ben, K7LLZ. So Ben will do one Thursday and then the next week will be Matt and then Ben and then Matt he has to have KT so we can't wait for that that's gonna be a lot of fun. And speaking of Cody, AG7LR, you know it's interesting Rebecca you know with all this friendly friendly trash talking we've got going with a dethroning Cody for the winning spot for the repeater roundabout not a peep he checks in on that to say I'll I'll you know I think what he's doing he's got a secret plan he's lying in wait to pounce on all of us with new techniques and radios so I think we're just gonna get crushed again Okay, before I hand it back to you, by the way I have heard the 99 tunnel is closed until they get that ventilation system up and power restored. There you go. Nice to hear everybody. Talk to you at noon. KI-7 R-Mute. Thank you, Rebecca.
Go ahead with a comment. Sorry, I didn't hear that. I was busy with the little ones. So yes, the arrow approach, definitely you wanna practice in some low branches and a lot of space of wood. However, I did find that it doesn't go real far with a line behind it, which is after exhausting several slingshot options, I ended up getting, obtaining that bow and arrow and doing that approach but weighting it down with a lot of weight in the front as well certainly helps sinker so yeah nine ounces of weight on the front of the arrow but that definitely helps it come down the other side which is also difficult sometimes with with depending on your cord that's where the micro cord works really well much better than thicker cords ke7 in ui back tonight
Alright Sean, thanks for your report, but Sounds like your day went alright, and you are staying out of trouble there So yeah The rain will definitely be continuing for a few more days And maybe we'll get some sun. Alright, we had an I.O. from MAC, KI-7UEF from several Thousand feet up in the air and I hope we'll talk to you soon and that's going to bring us next to you, Arthur, KU7 and you. Hi, Arthur, please come ahead. Good evening to Lynette and I believe Paul. I didn't catch your name. Unfortunately, I came in late to Lynette after doing a bunch of chores. But yes, if it's K7PJP, I believe you said that, hello. So yeah, I'm hearing about Camp Quest. I've actually been quite interested in checking out Camp Quest and the fact that there's a convergence of that and the Radio Club of Tacoma. Looking forward to, I hope, depending on busy family schedules and whatnot, I think it'd be pretty interesting to check that out. I have a six and an eight-year-old. the eight-year-old absolutely is quite interested in radio. I think the six-year-old will get there soon. But yeah, hopefully able to make that. But I wanted to mention to KK7QES Justin, I did a similar project just a few weeks ago, actually after the extended outage, I think we had 18 hours of power out in early October here. That's what motivated me to get back on the radio, but doing a couple of dipole projects and then, which resulted in me getting my first HF radio. I found that micro cord is amazing to use, much better than fishing line. Fishing line is so light that it gets tangled really bad. And once a tangle forms, you're kind of in trouble. Also a bow and arrow if you have a friend who, if you have one or have a friend with one, that is definitely my recommended approach. I have lots of Douglas fir trees here. I'm between Eastern Highlands and Issaquah, so abundant trees. So that's one of the things we're blessed with in this region. And so getting a micro cord up first is excellent. And it seems to follow an arrow really well with lots of electrical tape holding on. and lighted NOx are useful as well. Yeah, so check that out, and best luck with antenna projects. They're lots of fun, and who says we can't have fun even out in the rain where Northwestern is after all? So, 73 to the net, KE7 in UI."}]}
