It does an audio analyzer that does a fast Fourier transform. And it also has parametric instruments and electric magnetic field sensors. And it has an electronic compass built into it, three-dimensional compass, and some other doodads. But it's actually a toy. But it does this real stuff. And it's my splurge for this year. I was waiting for it for five years. And when I got the email that said there was an invitation to purchase, I had two choices, to not or to do. Sorry. Thank you, Joe. CW. I'm looking at it right now. It's kind of cool. Back to that. Well, thank you, Joe, for that quick response. Let's move on to Michael, WA6ABC. Come ahead, Michael. This is WA6ABC, Michael, in Rockaway Beach, currently in New York, New York City. And it is 1252 AM, so I am not firing on all cylinders. I just ran across this net. You asked for check-ins. I decided to check in. I run an animal rescue, so the animals are all fed. Spent a little time installing Echo Link on my Windows computer. And not very impressed with the sound quality. I have professional audio equipment. And oh my god, you put that through Echo Link, and it just makes it sound terrible. So I'm on my iPhone right now. But I did get it working. I got everything talking to each other. And Echo Link is officially working on my PC. I just don't know if I'm going to use it or not. In any case, here's a net. Nice to hear, everybody. Thank you for that interesting tri-quarter discussion. And maybe when I have a few extra dollars, I'll buy it. That sounds like a lot of fun. Anyway, back to net from WA6ABC, Michael in Rockaway Beach, New York. Thank you, Michael. Interesting. Yeah, Echo Link. I use Echo Link on Windows. And I guess I don't have very good ears. I don't really notice the differences too much. But people do tell me that All-Star sounds a lot better. And as I say, I'm building a node, and I'm going to get that up and going. Let's see where we are now. Let's call that a round. Let's move on to what's called arbitrarily round four. This is a 9 p.m. PSRD social net. My name is Bill, K7WSD. We're looking for people who want to chat with us. So if you have a chat in your mouth ready to go, come ahead with your call sign in your name. Whiskey zero, X-ray Oscar, Jonathan. Jonathan, you're number one in this new round. Who's next? W7, JSM, John. John, we have you next on the list. Go ahead."},{"callsign_confidence":0.98,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-08-23T21:02:38+00:00","id":22900,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":22899,"text":" Good evening, it's time for the 9 P.S.R.G. Social Net for Saturday, August 23rd. I'm Bill, K7WFD. My usual co-host Rich, WB7J, is in Mexico again and not having a good time with his Internet, so he won't be co-hosting tonight, but maybe he'll get enough bites gathered up together to check in. This is a directed social net that happens on the WW7 P.S.R.G. 2-meter repeater, which is located on Capitol Hill in Seattle and operated by the Puget Sound Repeater Group. The repeater operates at a frequency of 146.96, with a negative offset and a PL tone of 103.5. All licensed hands and new licensees just getting started are welcome to join. If you have third-party traffic, we'd like to hear from them too. We encourage you to press that button, tell us a little about yourself, your radio projects, or just about anything else. As always, please limit your reports to three minutes so we can get as many stations in as possible. This is also when the repeater times out. When you're finished with your report, please end with your call sign. That'll keep the FCC happy. We'll be compiling a list of stations that would like to check in, and then we'll ask for your reports. If you'd like to check in only, just let us know. You'll be in and out, also known as an I.O. Again, this is Bill, K7WSD. Let's get the net started. I'm glad you're safety-minded. I don't want to have any accidents there. Very good. Thank you for the clarification. Now I'm 100% on board on what you got going there. I wanted to go back up to Bill, K7WFB. What is this radio? What brand is it? I'd like to look this thing up. I'm glad you're interested. It's an open source project that a fellow back in South Carolina started just about a year ago, I guess. What it is, the device itself is a little board about the size of, about two-thirds the size of a credit card, I guess you'd say, that has a little RF transceiver on it, a one-watt transceiver. It derives the device from the device's power over a USB-C cord to my Android phone. And then there's an app on the phone, which has the whole radio interface, all the frequency settings and all the settings you think of. So the thing is called KV4P. It's the call of this fellow advanced in South Carolina, KiloWatt Victor 4 Papa, KV4P. Just Google that and you'll see all about it. There's been various versions of it that have come out. They just improved it, as I said, within the last week to improve the audio. It sounds like it's really working. What's really fun about the project is that there's a Discord channel associated with it. And so you can see everybody chiming in. And the improvements that have come in from just the Discord members have been amazing, including this latest firmware upgrade. So it's just a fun project that works and is really nice to see open source community collaboration. Thank you. Thank you Bill, I appreciate it. Today is my birthday and for my birthday I got to finish a project that I've been working on for a little while now. I got the end fed half wave and I got the line measured out and strung and hooked up and tuned in about 20 minutes. I've been playing ham radio along 20 meters, 15 meters, and 10 meters today and then 40 this evening. I'm just tickled pink at what a great birthday present I gave to myself is what I'm thinking. Always great to hear from Ann. I think the bird that you are wanting to think of, the military bird, would be the American Bald Eagle. Anyhow, thanks for running the net and thanks for calling on me. 73 88 and all the numbers to everybody. Back to the net, KMS7LY. KMS7LY K7WSD Rob, happy birthday of course and happy antenna day and happy QSO day. It sounds like you just scored big today, big time. Very good. And yeah, the Bald Eagle should have thought of that because they do have a stern military bearing. Good call. Let's move over to Shelton and talk to KK7NQN Hunter. Come ahead. Yeah, thank you. Today was one of those interesting days. It kind of started with not much of a plan. You know, that's my idea, like maybe do some code on the transcription project and maybe clean up a little bit. I wasn't 100% sure. Until I checked my email, I got an email from Steve over at Zero-Three Tries putting me in contact with KA9Q who's got a pretty cool SDR project. And me and KA9 there talked and I ended up spinning up a whole PSN node for him to couple with his SDR project. So we'll see how that goes. The fun part was at the bottom of that email, Steve personally invited me and KA9Q to come up to the Zero-Three Tries digital conference of speakers, which by the way I am planning to do. So anyone who's there will hopefully get a chance to meet me. Not 100% sure what that's going to look like or how that's going to play out, but I do plan on being there. But yeah, it turned the day kind of interesting. I ended up getting a lot more done than I thought. I cleaned up the place, I got code written, and I got invited to the digital conference with Steve there. He's been one of those guys that's just been super cool to talk to. Same as KA9Q with his SDR project. Just some very enthusiastic people about the tech side of ham radio that I've been messing around with lately. And yeah, it's just been a whole bunch of fun and a whole bunch of really cool people to talk to and meet. Anyways, this is KK7NQN, back to net. KK7NQN, yeah, it's really interesting. I follow Zero-Three Tries. I've been thinking of going up to Everett. I might sign up for the video thing. I can just see the MV Tacoma just coming into Bainbridge Island right now. So we've got to run and make the ferry back to Seattle. So we'll hand it back to Ned. KK7CFG. KK7CFG, K7WSD. Well thank you Ryan, thank you for that report from Bainbridge. And yeah, you've got to run and get that ferry. I did that yesterday. I was over in Bremerton with my wife having dinner at Anthony's. I like to do that on a warm evening. Just go over and, you know, Anthony's is about 100 yards from the ferry terminal. And just go over and have dinner and come back. And it was a good night for that. It's nice, walked up the waterfront a little bit. But yeah, and the smoky, when's the smokiness going away? It's better than it was yesterday, but I thought it was going to be out of here by now. Well thank you very much Ryan. Let's see, by the way, I just want to acknowledge to Jack and to the net that Jack is, as he has for a number of weeks, been helping me here and keeping me up to date with the calls, signs, and names that I don't always catch by myself. I do have a T-bump that I can heat the house with, but I just prefer to keep the wood stove running because that's what I was raised with and I enjoy spending time out in the woods getting firewood and stuff. And the National Forest gives 35 cords for personal use and it's $5 a cord after that. So it's kind of nice to go to the wife and go to the mountains and get some firewood and also firewood. It's an excuse to get out and do something even though it's hard work, but I find it fun. KK7NQN, back to you. KK7NQNWK7WT. Well thank you, Hunter. That's a nice story. Thanks a lot for checking in and telling us about that. Let's move on and talk to Cody, AG7LR. Cody, come ahead. What are you up to tonight? This is Retainer Station CL07, November, Quebec, November. I started transmitting pictures again, so it's on 145.800 MHz and it was dry today, so I was outside with a handheld yogi tracking it and received three good pictures out of it. They're going to be doing that through the night and the next pass is tomorrow at 11.20. There's four good passes tomorrow. There will be plenty more pictures to receive for this event. I don't know how the weather is going to hold out. If I have to stay in, I'll use the base station antenna and that doesn't receive as well as the little three element handheld yogi. That's all I've got for now. 73, everyone. AG7LR, back to bed. AG7LR, K7WSD. Well thanks, Cody, for the report and thanks particularly for reminding me and everyone else about the slow scan TV pictures that the ISS is doing down this week. I have that on my list. I didn't have any time to get to it today, but I'm going to try tomorrow. I think the weather is going to be pretty good tomorrow. I checked it this morning. So that's good. And you say there's four good ISS passes. That's great. Well I will have to put my ELK log periodic together and try and snag a few. Thanks, Cody. Let's go east and talk to Elaine. K3OMO, Elaine. So there. I'm surprised I'm still up. I'm usually asleep by about 9.30 or so. Well let me see, today I watched another DOOM movie called The Day After Tomorrow, which was a lot of action in it so it was kind of a fun thing to watch. Speaking of chess, I play a little bit here and there. But I enjoy on YouTube watching the Two Little Russians, it's brother and sister called Tweedle Dee Dum play. They are so fast and they don't even pay attention to their move. They're usually looking up at the ceiling or someone somewhere else because they can anticipate the next move. But I could watch most of the chess things with you know, Prague and Magnus and Dukasz and Nakamura, Fabiano, some of those guys. I've watched all the games for the past five or six months. These guys are good. So let's see. No music tonight. A couple of people had colds. So yeah, what else here? Yeah, I did pretty good the other day in Mahjong. I play about three times a week. It's a fun game. It keeps the hand and eye movement going and keeps your brain working. Anyway, I hope to see you on the 25th. KG7FWB. You bet, the 25th and the last Rain and Shine of the Season coming up. Yep, I'll be there and looking forward to seeing you. I did know there was all this chess activity on our net. That's great. I do not have the sophistication to watch a game and drill through it like you. Oh God, I can't remember. Who's talking about chess? Oh, chess. That's right. I'm sure you get a lot out of a game. Of course, I don't have the sophistication to watch a damn marriage game. I'm not much of a ball player either. I'm not going to get it much, I'm afraid. That's why they let me do the Saturday Night and I'm going to get my marriage out and stuff outside. The power's out over here, so I'm a little stir crazy. And I haven't been volunteering at the food bank because I'm getting married on Monday. So I'm even more stir crazy. So thank you for having me on the net. And again, I hope you can hear me on my handheld today. Haven't gotten my 50 foot antennae put up yet because I'm remodeling the kitchen. And that's all going on in my world. I'm excited for Monday, but I'm trying to keep it cool. And we'll see how we entertain ourselves without power here. I think my spouse just went and got burgers or something because I can't cook dinner. If you go on the A7, go back to rectangle. KK7QQT Jessica. Yeah, that was way clearer. Thank you so much for taking care of us so well. Yeah, we heard you very well. And I just wanted to, you said you're getting married on Monday. Did I get that straight? Yeah, Bill, that's right. We're getting married on Monday. Because your Monday was a better day because there should be less people. But with the government shut down, we're getting married in a park. But with the government shut down, who knows, maybe it'll be packed. Well, Jessica, that's wonderful news. Yeah, just for the luck. That's just wonderful. Congratulations. And one other question. You say your power is out. Where are you where the power is out tonight? Sorry about that, Bill. And thank you for the congratulations. But I guess I didn't mention I am in Brownsville, Washington. It's south of Brownsville, right across the water from Beale Creek. Brownsville. You know, Paul, I didn't realize there was a Brownsville in there. I was biked over on that side. But I know where you are. And there's no Brownsville. Oh, that's wonderful. That's great. Thank you so much. And I hope that wedding in the park goes very well. Government shut down, be damned. Who cares? You're just getting married. And it's a park. I don't see any problems. Thank you so much, Jessica. Good talking to you. Come back soon. Let's see, you're listening to the 9 p.m. PSRT SocialNet. My name is Bill, K7WSD. And this is the moment, or the minute, between rounds two and three, where we try and give you a little review of what's coming up in the world over the next week or so. We have the two usual Saturday announcements for next week, the 11th, the SimplexNet on 1-46-56. That's at 8 p.m. Do join it. And let's see, oh, the Ham Connect program. No, no, I'm skipping there. Oh, to come open house, of course. That's on Saturday morning. What else do we have? Oh, October 11, 9 a.m. The Kitsap County Amateur Radio Club Annual Ham Fest, 2025. Google that or look at the PSRT page if you want any instructions for that. Same day, next Saturday, the 11th, is the PSRT board meeting. That's at 1-30 p.m. That's on Zoom. And you can easily get into that on Zoom by just going to the psrt.org, the main page. That'll show you the link. Big news is Saturday, October 25. That's, as Jack puts it, it's season seven, episode six of our Rain or Shine. This is going to be the Halloween Rain or Shine at Gasworks Park. We'll be next to the covered Gasworks by Lake Union on the east side of the park. You can't miss it and you'll probably want to miss it because it's got a roof and it might be drizzling. So come on over. Have some donuts and coffee. And enjoy the last Rain or Shine of the year for PSRT. That is. Halloween is the 31st. I think you didn't need to be told that. And the week after that, Saturday, November 8, is the next PSRT educational meeting, 1-30, again on Zoom. The topic is amateur radio in space, ham radio satellites and ISS. So you come on by. That's going to be a lot of fun. I think that gets us far enough into the fall, doesn't it? Let me see. Yeah. Yeah. That'll take care of us. Very good. This is the PSRT 9 p.m. social net. Well I was on there but I was on there later. I had to work today so later in the afternoon I got on there for a couple of hours and made a number of contacts. I even had a contact with Sean who is just on KJ7EXM on 6 meters. That was repeater number 2, the PSRG 6 meter repeater. It was a lot of fun talking to different people. I think one of the things that is always fun on the repeater roundabout is there are people on there who never check into the PSRG nets or anything like that which is totally fine. But they know who I am. It is just funny. Two different people said, I hear you on there all the time. I know all about you. I barely recognize their calls. But it is all good. I might do a little bit after the net tonight. I had a pretty busy week this week. But I think in earnest I am really going to jump in tomorrow afternoon after the Seahawks game. And I think maybe it is a little bit of a blessing. That Seahawks game is at 10 tomorrow. It is an early game. They are playing the Tennessee Titans in Tennessee. And you will be able to watch it on FOX. So yeah, really that is all I got. Hopefully Bill I will hear you tomorrow sometime. Oh, and I just want to say, just from my short time this afternoon being on the, a couple of hours being on the repeater roundabout, I have a feeling that Cody's crown is probably fairly safe just from some of the things I have been able to figure out. I had several contacts with him. Anyway, KG7ODB back to the net. KG7ODB, K7WSD. Yeah, Cody's in there. Every time I got on today I heard him. We were traveling together, working a few, kind of traveling around, working a few different sites. So he's in there. He's just a good operator and he's diligent and has good equipment. And he's probably going to win again and he'll deserve it again. What else did I want to say? Oh, Jack, KI7RMU is as usual shadowing me on texting, helping with calls. He and I ran into each other several times and had the great fun of making contact on repeater number 60, which is Lyman Hill or Lyman Mountain. It's up by Mount Vernon. I'm not sure what he was running. I was running five watts with a good antenna in my attic and I have a good exposure that way. You can just barely hear each other. We made a legitimate contact on, through, by a Mount Vernon repeater. It's really kind of fun to just play around and see what you can do. It's kind of amazing. Well, very good. That completes round one of the PSRG 9 p.m. Social Net. My name is Bill. Let's get round two started right now. Come ahead. Come ahead, Hunter. Yeah, me and the wife are currently in the process of keeping our license at postal... K7NQN, K7WSD. Well, thank you, Hunter. That's really interesting. I have no exposure to that process or the whole system at all, but from what you said about it, it's reassuring. They're making darn sure that you're going to know how to deal with kids when you get to host them. With all the classwork, and I like the first aid, the CPR, and the home inspection, they're taking good care of our kids in this state. Thank you for taking part in that. Very good. There are maps to show you where everything is. It's quite a lot of fun. That's tomorrow. Next week, Radio Club at Tacoma has their open house from 10 to two next Saturday. The SimplexNet is ever there. I'm sure it'll be there on Thanksgiving weekend. I can't guarantee it, but they're a pretty hearty group and they will have fully digested their turkey by Saturday at 8 p.m. and will be there to greet you on one four six point five six well then we just have christmas and blah blah blah the usual holiday stuff you know how to do that uh... jack did post a useful thing on the uh... psrg discussion the facebook discussion page and that is the notice that the very interesting november educational meeting of psrg uh... has been uh... published the video is is there available And I highly recommend you all go there. Actually, I called out as an IO, but after Jack pulled me out of there, I had to jump in and say, Jack, boy, you've got some good ears, man. Good job. But yeah, that's it. I just wanna wish everybody a great evening and N7PhD back to you. Very good, Ted. Thanks for stopping by. Yeah, he has, Jack has great ears. I think he does it by telepathy sometimes. I'm not really sure how he does it. Let me just look back at my list and make sure I didn't skip any on my list or on Jack's list. We got everyone. We had Jacob with an I-O from Squim. And yeah, that's everybody. Okay, so we have completed round two, which brings us to the usual moment of Bill K7W-SD, and you're listening to the Puget Sound Repeater Group 9 p.m. Social Net. And I am looking at our Facebook page, the PRCG discussion group Facebook page. And I'm looking under the featured column. And I'm looking at this fella named Jack who seems to have come up every five minutes where he has placed all of the events that you might wanna know about. So I'm just gonna read a few, a little. As usual, the Radio Club of Tacoma will be meeting next Saturday. Their open house goes from 10 a.m. to two p.m. And next Saturday, of course, is the Simplex Net, which is on 146.56 at 8 p.m. next Saturday. And the big event coming up in a couple of weeks now, or is it, it's next weekend. Yeah, next weekend is the Repeater Roundabout, November 22nd and 23rd. I know Quentin and his minions have been working very hard to assemble a big list of repeaters that we check into, and signal reports and rack up wild amounts of points, but never more than Cody. And I checked it, I think they're up to 140 repeaters. So if you wanna check that out, it's a great contest, a lot of fun, I'm gonna be doing it. You just look at repeaterroundabout.com. I think that's right, might be .org. No, I'm pretty sure it's .com. Other than, oh wait, it's right, Jack has it right in the Facebook page. Yes, repeaterroundabout.com. And there isn't too much else on our list here. We get all the way down to Christmas and then it's daylight savings time in March. So our event calendar needs, and somebody make an event, we need some winter events. Actually, the thing we should all do is go over to the Lake Washington Ham Club page and check out their, what do they call it, the Hangout in the Hanger or something up in Kenmore, because that does go all winter, I know, and it's a lot of fun. So you are listening to the 9 p.m. social net, PSRG. My name is Bill, K7WFB, and I will regain the ability to speak over the course of the next round, I promise. Anyone want to join us, come ahead now with your callsign and name. KK7IJZ, KK7IJZ, Rebecca. Rebecca, how nice to hear from you. It's been a while. Who's next? Thanks to all of my thanks to all PS RG and around the country and around the world who participate in this social net and make such a nice community I guess my reference to eating too much turkey I didn't think of it as I was saying it but I realized it was really quite appropriate for me because I actually ate so much There's a group of about, oh, 25 family members sort of spread around this house. Somehow, I forgot there was dessert. That was the problem. And I really liked turkey and stuffing and gravy and all the side dishes. And I forgot that I still had to eat dessert. Obviously, I had to eat dessert. And I was so full. My religious experience was, I said, oh God. And I went to lay down, there was a couch in another room, laid down for about an hour, chatted with a few people who wanted by, felt much better, but many, many news. It was stupid and piggish and not at all biblical or disciplined, far from it. Let's see, who else is out there who wants a report on turkey, cranberry sauce, turkey sandwiches, side dishes, corn pudding, apple pie, any of those are appropriate, or frankly, anything else you want to talk about.
