Lots of different kinds of rallies besides our club rallies. There's lots of clubs that have rallies and lots of other organizations, owners of the home associations in Kajinko that have rallies. We go to a big one every year in late April, early May. We started out with all of that diesel pushers. But they're taking all kinds of RVs down. It's all about maintaining your equipment, both the RV itself and the equipment that's inside it. They have hundreds of seminars that go on throughout a week period. A lot of them are peak, so if there's two things going on at the same time, you can't do both of them. You can do one of them one time and the other one a different time. So it's a big event, and I've been involved with it for, I guess, seven or eight years now, something like that. So we'll call any data arrangements to be involved with it again next year. My name is Hank, I'm about to engage Sandy, Sean, Shane Brown, and your views, which you can find on almost on the coast of Lake District. Right, over here, over here. This is a direct connect, please address all commies and couriers to this deck control station. Your fare is sponsored by the RV Radio Network, but all amateurs with a technician class license or higher are encouraged to participate. The purpose of this is to provide a form for amateur radio operators who share an interest in recreational vehicles to exchange information and stay attached to the channel and country. The net VH charge will be via APN central time on southeast lane conference node, and that's linked to the N4 MHC multi-mode network. That includes the RBCQQC echo-link repeater in Lookout Mountain, Georgia, and several other repeaters in the tri-state area. And we thank the government for doing the Tri-State Amateur Radio Club for supporting our network use of that equipment. For additional information about the RV Radio Network, please visit our secure website at rvradionetwork.com. For more information about the Tri-State Amateur Radio Club, visit their website at triastatesarc.com. I mentioned that the totally have some repeaters connected to the network here. Repeaters have time-out timers on them that we check for three minutes typically. And let's keep our transmission shorter than that. If that timer is tripped, if they disconnect, you can check connections and people have to check reconnect and all that kind of stuff. So we try to avoid that. If you're using the Windows application for echo-link, there's a nice handy timer up under the tool setup and you set a timer so that you can go up and set the transmit timer to something less than 180 seconds. I set mine to 170 seconds, maybe a 10 second margin for error. And it also tells me 10 seconds before that. So I get a D, or alarm, 10 seconds before the timer is gonna time me out. They also get a little pop-up timer if your screen is set wide enough that shows up in the bottom left-hand corner. So that's a convenient way to make sure you don't time the timer out if you're using that home of the Windows echo-link application. Let me reset. That was not actually a traffic step. It don't take so long. They try to handle that if anybody has it. And if anybody has any announcements to make or needs to be short timed, in and out or whatever, then let me know at this time. I've got it wedged up against the control for the tarheels, if you've ever, holding it where it is. Between the two of them, there's a little bit of a curve at the edge there. I've got it wedged in there where it can't move pretty well. The radio's sitting actually beside the driver's seat on the floor, so here I'm actually sitting up a little bit off the floor. You can never doubt how we get some water in there. I don't want the radio sitting in the water. If we have a sign out coming in, I'd drop some water on the floor down there. My father was involved in electronics, too, but he was never interested in ham radio. He came out of the Second World War as an officer, retired, with no electronics background at all. But he took an electronics course from the Chicago Institute of Technology, a mail order course, get a lesson every week. And I was probably learning to walk about that time. He took that course, and I still got part of that course. It was two big, like a big dictionary-sized volumes of weekly classes. I've got the first set of it, and he never gave me the second set. I had no idea where they wound up going. But anyway, he was involved in electronics, but I didn't have any of the electronics at all until I had to get some involvement with PORC. So kind of the opposite of what your story is. You also mentioned the temperature. We have had a very cold season here. We had about two weeks of summer. Actually, one week, two different times of summer. And the rest of the season has been unseasonably cool. Tonight, and tomorrow night both, it's going to go down to the low 40s here, unless they've changed it since I looked this morning. It's been down in the upper 40s and lower 50s for the last week or so. And I do the night security walk here. So I've been wearing heavy clothes where I normally go out in shirt sleeves. So it's been an unusual year. This is our seventh year up here. It's the first time we've ever run into this kind of cold weather up here. So anyway, it's good to have you with us, and I'll let you expand on a little bit on doing a lightning round. We've got coming up now, we've got Jacob, W4TTS. Jacob, I'm not sure you've been on this deck before. So I'll say good evening to you. Welcome to our net. This is the RV Radio Network. We've got a club that sponsors the net. RV Radio Network is the name of the club. And you can go to rvradionetwork.com and look us up, get some information about us. We're all a bunch of hands. Most of us are interested in RVing. So over to you, W4TTS. Jacob, this is K4HM. Tell us how you got involved in Ham Radio."},{"callsign_confidence":0.98,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-08-28T18:56:35+00:00","id":26800,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":26799,"text":" Uh, try to write a key then. It sounded like he did, but I thought maybe he'd stick around for it. Anyway, let's see, what have we got? We've got a topic, of course. You guys that are on here all know that we do two passes a month longer, so we'll go into that. The same topic out of what are the applications, tools, sites do you use in your RVing? We've talked about that a couple of times before, but it's been quite a while since the last time, so things may have changed. But I use a lot of different sites. If we're going to our places we always know about, we go to every year, all I need to do is pull up Google Maps and plug it in there, pull out my Garmin and plug it into there. If we're going to a place unusual, I'll pull up RV Parkview and look at the route on RV Parkview and look for campgrounds along the route that look promising. We've got a couple of green docking sites, first choice. And just plain old campgrounds is my second choice. We don't really think fancy, we don't really need boutiques or anything like that. And for other information, I guess I go to the IRV too quite often. I go to FRVA sometimes. I'm just looking for the kind of stuff that may be. We've got Ramblin' Fishers, we do that event every year, end of April, beginning of May. And I'm on the staff for that, so I do stay up with their website. We are actually open, that event is now open to all powered motorhomes. All powered RVs I should say. It used to be just measles, but it's any kind of powered motorhome now. So it's all about maintaining your equipment, what kind of equipment you've got in there, the dealers are there, the vendors are there, service people are there. It's a big event. We also, I still stay in touch with the American coach people. It's a bio-American coach is what I've got. So I stay in touch with them, I keep in touch with their blog. They've got actually the group style site. The Ramblin' Pushers event and session also has a group style site. So I get all the information from those places as well. Alright, let's jump over to Ron. Ron, where do you get your RV information? What kind of apps and sites do you use? K4HM. This is repeater station Kilo Kilo 7. Good evening Hank, and thanks for my turn and doing the net. We really haven't done that much. We usually just end up using the campgrounds website to make reservations as far as finding places to go. I think I've looked at one app once, I don't remember what it was though. But we ended up not using it. We did install one a few years ago and we just never ended up using it. I think we'd be more likely to if we did more trips where we didn't really plan it all out and we're looking for a place to go down the road. And we haven't done that before and still didn't really, I don't remember really using an app then either. We just did general Google searches to find places and that seemed to work. So I guess that's pretty much all we've done so far. And we're certainly not rolling it out or anything like that. We just haven't gotten to doing that. But anyway, that's about it. I'll send it back to you. K7, are we?"},{"callsign_confidence":0.98,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-08-28T18:12:39+00:00","id":26766,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":26765,"text":" Ok Jerry, I got started in a TV repair shop. I got my license in 73. So, what that was. Oh, we got a check in there. Now I got my 4NC just checked in with us. Could show on the list here shortly, Steven. Anyway, I got my license in 73 and likewise I had to take the code test when the FCC came to town, they came to Louisville every three months. The other wife I would have had to go to Chicago as well. But they came to Louisville every three months and the next time they came to Louisville, which was the following month, I remember right, I got my general. And the next time I came to town I got my advance. And then six months later when I came to town I got my extra and my commercial license all at the same time. That was a busy day. That's a long story how that day played out. Anyway, a long time ago now. That's what got me into the telephone company radio shop. I worked there for, in a shop there for a number of years. I've enjoyed all my time with radio. Don't do as much of it anymore today as what I used to do. It was pretty transistor era. My first radio didn't have, they didn't know what transistors were when it was built. But it was a piece of junk that was in 73 laying underneath the table. So, it was old already then. But anyway, I rebuilt that and I worked on, I never built a kit. I worked on a lot of kits that other people built and couldn't get to work. But I never built on, worked on any of my, built one by myself. So, I just didn't have the instant net or chasing papers or contests. I just liked working on the air. That did a lot of traffic net and then a lot of drive-tune nets. And that's always been my interest. Alright, see you next week Marty. Stick around, listen to me. If you still see you still connected, I'll call on you. That brings down, let me just renounce here who we've still got. We've got George, AD2IH. Donald, KI4ZS who showed up and then disappeared. And you can set your transit timer there to, I recommend 170 seconds. That's 10 seconds before it times the repeater out. And also it will pop up an alarm tone and a pop-up timer if you have the window set big enough in the lower left-hand corner that will start a 10-second countdown. Of course, that will start in 160 seconds. Okay, let me reset before I time it out."},{"callsign_confidence":0.8200000000000001,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-08-28T18:38:28+00:00","id":26783,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":26782,"text":" Okay Dave, thanks for being with us. And the Ham Reel on the Patio. I got a couple of friends that had interesting setups. They were in, one of them was in an area that was restricted to antennas. The other one was not, but he just did it this way because he wanted to. He actually had some wire antennas up, but he decided he wanted to try one of these vertical antennas, push up vertical antennas. I've got an Eagle I antenna and that's how it's made. I don't know if he had an Eagle I or some other brand, but it was basically a telescoping vertical antenna. And he put it on the railing of his back deck on the 70. He lived on the edge of the lake. It was a space in the lake, nobody could see it from the road. Of course, actually there was a whole lot of trees between him and the road that would have been able to see it anyway. But that's beside the point. He put it up there and he worked pretty good with that. He ran some wire around the handrail on the deck as radials. And he said that helped him a lot. I've never tried using radials on my, mine's mounted on the back of my RV, so it's kind of hard to drag radials down the street. I'd have to hook them up and disconnect them every time we used it. So I don't typically use radials. That tune's just fine. It probably would work better with some radials, I don't know. But anyway. The other one was a senior citizen who's still around today, I guess he's still got the same set up, moved into a senior's home, self-assisted living that's on your own, the there if you need them kind of a thing. They provide you with meals and transportation and stuff like that that you still live on your own. He designed a push out antenna, basically it was another vertical antenna but he pushed it out of the window horizontally and ran it out that way out of his window in his apartment. I don't know how he got by with that but he did. He ran that for a long time. I think as far as I know he's still running it today. He's in the Raleigh area, North Carolina. And he got to get into some interesting set ups if you get out there looking for him. Alright, thanks for being with us and stick around for the lightning round Dave. That brings us down to the bottom of the list currently, KI6-HOB. Mark, you're up from K4-HM. Tell us how you got into Ham radio."},{"callsign_confidence":0.8700000000000001,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-09-04T18:22:54+00:00","id":32490,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":32489,"text":" Okay, Marty, like you, we're going to Florida for the winter. We're wrapping up. This is my last weekend here, or last week, I guess. We've got three nights left. Come Saturday night, we'll be done. We have a festival here for the last closing weekend every year. Actually, the campground stays open for the festival. I guess is the right way to put it. And that's this weekend. So everybody will be pulling out of the campground come Sunday night, if not up to study during the day, I guess. And the campground will be closed at that point. Well, it won't be closed yet. They're still open for a couple weeks, but there's not much of anybody here once that festival is over. The seasonals still will be here, but that's about all. But anyway, we go down to Florida every year, as you know. And the club down there at Traveler's Rest is a great club. And I meant to mention to Gary, I meant to George, that I was a member, oh, I am a member, I'm a life member of the Raleigh Amateur Radio Club. And I was active in their board of directors for over 20 years. And they had a nice ham fest. I'm glad to hear you're going to it. And the next guy up, I'm sure, is going to be going to it also. Steve, NY4NC in Raleigh. You're up. We're talking about what you're going to do this year for the events for ham radio and RVA. So over to you, NY4NC from K4HM. Okay, 4HM in the net, NY4N. Charlie just got home, just finished with the traffic net and got over here just in time to get on. So good evening, everybody. Okay, now, let's see. First off, it's 69.8 at 90% humidity. It's clouded over now, so it looks like we're going to be getting some rain. And right now the winds are calm. Barometric pressure 29.95. Let's see. What else do I want to say before I get to the topic at hand? As far as you talking the remainder of this year, basically I don't have a lot specifically ham radio related for the rest of this year. But we are planning on going to the Friendly Bunch gathering in Sparta in October. Of course, this month we have our 50th anniversary. So not really, I was hoping we would do maybe a little travel, but my wife kind of thought just having something close to home would be nice. So we're going to have some stuff going on here. And then basically an in-person just a reception. And then we'll take the family down to the Angus Barn, which you being, having been in Raleigh, you know what I'm talking about, although some of the others might not know what the Angus Barn is. It's a destination restaurant for those not in the know. Let me break for a second. Okay. And now, upcoming though, I am looking to participate in hamcation down in Orlando. And so I think you and Celine go to that. If I, are you planning on going this year, Hank? If so, my understanding is it's best to show up on Wednesday the 11th. And then do you check out on Sunday or do you stick around until Monday? Just was trying to figure out to know how long to set for. And then how do we coordinate getting together? That's the other question I have. So hopefully I've been waiting for some information to come out because I've been wanting to make the reservation. But I wanted to make sure I knew that I was making it the right way first before I actually pulled the trigger on buying the, because that's a lot of money to spend. So, you know, about $350 for the RV site for those days if we stay through Sunday. Yeah, $70 a night. Which, comparatively speaking, I was looking at some of the other places there in Florida and it's pretty cheap in comparison, but still, it's not cheap. So, and what do you do before? Because, I mean, if you're coming from Travelers Rest, that's not so far. But what about for us? We're coming from North Carolina, so it's kind of hard. Either we get there on Thursday if we have to be there in the morning and find a place to stay overnight or if we drive down on, if we drive, well, okay, we have to leave Tuesday, I should say, not Thursday. But if we have to leave on Wednesday, then we won't get down there in time for the opening of the campground, so that makes it tricky. Anyways, I'm going to send it back to you so you can maybe enlighten me a little bit. Back to you, Hank, NY4MC."}]}
