And I have to say that Emil and Scott get the Golden Double Award. Those guys were fantastic. Holy smokes man, if I'm gonna double, I wanna do it like them do. Anyway, what works, what doesn't work, both core and great. I'm gonna say the G5 RV Junior. It's designated as 40m through 6. But with a proper tuner, man, you can tune that thing on 170. I've done it, I can't blow anything up. Back to the net control. V... A... 3... W... Z... A... 3... James X. That was pretty good feet there, thanks for that James. So the GRV Junior, GR5 RV Junior, whatever, working it on 160. You know, I thought it was a wattage too, but I had that situation there. And it happened to me at Christmas because I think they run a net on 80m, the Santa net or something like that. And I really wanted to get the grandkids to do it. And at that time I had an infant that was only 10 to 40. So we can listen, you can listen on anything I guess, you just can't transmit, I found that out. But then I was doing something with the MTA program and I wanted to tune it. It wasn't tuned at all. And I don't know what happened. But I did the transmit. Next thing you know I was picking up stations on that. And it was at 50 watts, so I quickly turned it down to about 10. And I worked the rest, all through Christmas, 80 meters on like 10 watts. On the 10 levels for 40 to 10. Okay, thanks so much. We're at the bottom of the list. Let's pick it back up as a deciding topic and want to hear from other people. I'm not sure when the Rain or Shine is. It's probably next week. Anyway, that's on the schedule. I worked on my antenna. The G5 RV failed, again. It's the solder joints that are exposed to the weather and I have to get it, get on the ladder to deal with it. And I'm gonna work on that again in the very near future after I round up the appropriate sealing tape and stuff and I'll try to seal it off again. What else? I tried to get on the WS-Net. That's the HF, Washington State Emergency Services Net. And I've got a lot of background noise on HF in that band, but not in the others and I'm wondering what's going on. Sweet and light. Anyway, I hope that isn't too controversial. But yeah, I'm a little bit loopy from the gabapentin and I swear, man, even though I took a shot of, what did they shoot me with? Anyway, I took a steroid shot last week and that didn't take much effect, but the cocktail of drugs that I'm taking is really making me loopy. And I had been a vegetarian for 28 years. I only started eating fish a year ago. Funny for the seafood capital of South Carolina. And then about two weeks ago he started eating meat. I still feel bad and now I realize I would say prayers before we eat in memory of those poor things that gave me the ultimate sacrifice. But I still feel weird about it, but I think it's the right thing to do. And what else is rummaging through my brain? I think that's about it. And Mr. Terry, I have a little hint for you. Good to hear you again there Dave. It's been a while since I've checked in and heard you. Yeah, here we are. I'd like to say the hobby of hobbies. I love it. I think the two most things I am happiest at with the ham radio is putting up or multiplying or relocating my antennas, wire antennas or what have you. Outside putting stuff together, I just put up a G5 RV after all these years. I thought I'd try a commercial one and it seems to have checked out on the VNA as expected. So we'll be looking forward to that in the winter. And as Emil mentioned, I like to throw out my CQ on one of my favourite bands, Seventeen, and always interesting to see who comes back to my CQ. So that's what sort of turns my crank as they say. The E3 UJK in almost ready to snow tiny township. Back to you Dave. The E5 UO. Thank you very much. Very good John. And thanks for your check in today. It is great to chat with you again. It's been a while for sure. And I do see via your QRZ page here as well that you've got a two element quad on Seventeen. That must be interesting. I bet you that works fantastic. I hope to work you on the band sometime. I don't have any dedicated, I shouldn't say don't have any, I have a 30 metre wire. But I don't have any dedicated antennas for the other work bands. But I can load up some of the other antennas that are on the tower here and it seems to work okay. One of those things to do in retirement for me which will not be in the too distant future. Starting in the new year. So hopefully a little more time to play ham radio and do some antennas and things like that. More antennas, more homemade antennas. Thanks again John. Great to hear from you. And I'll move down the list to Victor Alpha 3 Whiskey Bravo Kilo. Joel in Castleman, Ontario. Welcome to The Net. And Joel, what are you into in ham radio? What is exciting you about ham radio these days? Go ahead. This is Victor Alpha 3 Whiskey Bravo Kilo. What fancies me currently on this great hobby? There's so many stuff that I do want to explore in this hobby. But currently and probably for this winter season it's going to be some home brew stuff. I'm going to be trying to home brew my own little antenna. It'll be a 2 meter tape yaggy. I think it's the first one on the list. And after that it'll be probably some transceiver, a little kit that I'll find somewhere. And I'll have a blast for this winter. And hopefully the warm weather is going to push me into doing other home brew stuff on the outdoor and bigger size. Back to Net. This was VA3 Whiskey Bravo Kilo. Connecting to Echolink VE4AWB. Connected. Alright. We're connected to a Manitoba Echolink station. That's awesome. Okay, thanks Joel. Appreciate that. And you got me thinking about building a QMX Plus, one of those QRP Labs kits possibly this winter as well. And looks to be a completely crazy functional QRP transceiver. Not as interested in the SSB side of things, but just as a code radio or digital radio. Okay, thanks Joel. Appreciate it. And yeah, have fun. Enjoy the winter projects. And we have warm weather to look forward to. It's about minus 10 here in Saskatoon right now. A little bit of healthy dose of snow on the ground already. But we'll be warming up tomorrow and it will melt off. It should be plus 9, plus 10 here tomorrow. Alright, more check-ins from Eastern Canada, Ontario and East. For the Trans-Neonette Control Station by the way. Myself Victor Echo 5 Uniform Oscar. My name is Dave and I'm located in Saskatoon. So any further check-ins from Canada, please join us now. It said I needed to insert the SD card to flash the BIOS again, so it was crying for help. So I got up on the net and figured out how to reset it, factory reset from the front panel, and it did that. We loaded RT systems and lo and behold, it's back up again. That was a very troubling morning. I talked to the net this morning and it said I went to the emergency room with heart failure, but that was an exaggeration. But I'd like to do that. I had to relay a couple stories. One of them is kind of childish, a little pat on my own back, but I was talking about utilizing those lithium-ion batteries I have. I ended up with three 100-amp ones and a 200-watt inverter. I ended up housing them in one of a Costco black and yellow containers, plastic ones, and it was working out great and I mounted the inverter on top. I think my next time into town I'm going to stop at Harbor Freight and get forecasters on it because the thing weighs about 100 pounds. But I tested it out, works great, puts out 110 volts and I could do the living room for at least a day. So There's that. But the funny one is, so my weather station here fall to disarray, and it was mostly because my G5 RV antenna would interfere with it horribly. And it was always beeping at me any time I'd transmit, so I'd just send it off and run a month. I put up the new dipole, and I don't have the RFI issues I had with the G5 RV. and I reset everything, and it was like, hey, you know, I should take that weather vane down. The sensor itself, it's up rather high, so I got up on the ladder, pulled it off, and I was cleaning it out. I ran water through the rain gauge and removed the top of the rain gauge, and I ran some more water through it, and I said, you know what, I should take some alcohol, isopropyl, and do a real nice job on the inside. I brought it into the Ham Shack, and I had a scene out of Harry Potter. All these little spiders came out. I mean, a lot of them. I'm not even gonna try to exaggerate how many, but there were a lot. And so I've had daughters and sons, but you know how little girls scream at a real high pitch? That was me. That was me, sir. Sorry about that kj7 bih here I was distracted by my base commander who wants 16 DVDs and I have stacks and stacks of DVDs that I have made over the decades backed up images old versions of operating systems and servers on stuff and I was distracted. I'm sorry. I'm going to the Hangar event this afternoon at 1300 And I hope to meet up with a couple of people. We've got some honeydews passing data back and forth and there's a I'm not gonna give away the surprise, but we are concerned with AE7TD. He's in the hospital, and I'm thinking about wishing him well. He and Jane do a great job of handling the PE testing, and we had to cancel the tests for the rest of the year until early January because of this. and we hope he gets better and that's what we're thinking about this morning. Tried to get on the WSN net. I'm just not having any luck on 80 meters listening on the DX10. Ironically, or for some technical reasons I don't understand, probably because it's using a different antenna. I can use my SDR Uno and I can hear here, the net and tune in and here, that WSN net on 80 meters, it's using a very simple antenna. It's using the G5 RV and my DX10 is using the Comet 250 vertical and I don't think it's very good with NVIS. So I'm still thinking about a better NVIS antenna that it doesn't upset the base commander. Having been married for 57 years, 57 years, there are certain compromises we agree upon. And having antennas at six feet above the ground across the back of her yard is not one of those compromises. A BBC documentary spliced together footage from comments that Kump made about 50 minutes apart to suggest that he had said, we're going to walk down to the Capitol and I'll be there with you and we fight, we fight like hell. I have not seen the spliced and unspliced version. Just to let you know, I hadn't taken the time to look at that. All right, next up, Pat says he's just listening. Good morning to you, good morning to everyone else on the worldwide friendship net for a soggy, soggy Tuesday morning. Yep, Kathy and I are turning into prunes and I'm hiding out in the underground bunker because I'm afraid to get wet. We're expecting some sun tomorrow, how about that? And yes, I will take advantage of it and go out tiger hunting. I just wanted to mention to Santa Mel who is in the check-in list I believe that I saw a picture of him and oh man does he look like Santa. The beard and the hair and the cheeks and the whole shot. And I wonder why he goes out as Santa and good for him for doing that. And I know he loads up on the candy canes. That's really, really so cool especially for the kids. They must try to pull on his beard, right? And it doesn't come off? How about that? Anyway, yeah I've been having fun on HF nets. All kinds of stuff that I've never heard before at least since I got the G5 RV up in the trees a little bit. But yep, I have to watch out because Art may be swinging in that tree. You never know. Anyway, Gail I just wanted to say you have a good day and hello to everyone else on the worldwide friendship net especially my Liebchen and Joe and Joyce and Darryl and Joe you know who you are. I'll say 73 and I'll be listening out.
